Duchene or RNH....so basically we would be replacing Stepan for one guy that is -61 or another guy that wins only 40% of his face offs.

I keep thinking of different lineups and no matter how I slice it, it's just not pretty down the middle. And that's without an injury. If Ziba goes down... Oy.

We need to do something there, even if it's not a bonafide #1. Another 2C at least and ideally a bottom guy. Is Winnik an option worth exploring?

RNH I agree with you is not a solid option but Duchene gets killed here like he's some scrub. Stop it. His team and line mates are HORRENDOUS.

I'd only be all I'm for Duchene if it involves taking Staal in some capacity. We need to get out of that contract with Mcdonagh FA looming

Schultz signed for 5.5m AAV for 3 years.

I find it fascinating to see these short-term deals for D-men this year

I wish more GMs would hold firm on 3-5 year deals. I think its better for the fans and the NHL. These long deals followed by negative feelings and buyouts are not good for the game.

Love what Gorton had done so far with the Smith and Shattenkirk deals. Does Zib get $4.5M and Fast get $2M?

What analytics is Yzerman using?

Like I've said many times, the stuff we are looking does not give a good picture and does not found a good platform for analyzing players from all perspectives. Many refuses to realize it, but its more or less a fact.

Does that make Girardi a good signing? That is another issue. But there is so much more to hockey than looking at stats based on shots alone.

Girardi brings plenty of leadership and experience but not worth $3M AAV.

What is he worth? It depends on what teams can spend. And what they need. It shows that Girardi is seen as a valuable player around the league.

Yes. I agree. These 7-year deals the moment players hit UFA-status (Which is always after age 27) are crippling the market and causing so many buy outs along the way. 4-year deals are healthy and GMs should change their stance on negotiating. Maybe the NHL can change the contract length to 6 years for teams having the player's rights and 4 years for the other teams. The 7 and 8-year contracts are toxic

That smith deal just keeps getting better...

True. But Schultz is an intriguing player
