no one said miller is the solution. he actually would be the worst case scenario cause it means we couldn't land a center. but that options means our hands aren't forced to get a center right now.
I think our hands are tied even if it is posturing. Hayes as a number 2 center is down right scary. There not fooling anyone with that posturing.

How'd we make the cap work though? Nash? I'm meh on RNH, but I'd be interested with how you framed this scenario

If you moved Miller and Holden, the difference in cap is only $1.6M for this season. It's certainly manageable if Klein retires, which seems likely at this point.

Kreider - Zib - Buch
Nash - RNH - Zucc
Vesey - Hayes - Grabner
? - ? - Fast

Then next year, Nash leaves. That frees up room to sign Hayes, and bridge Vesey and Skjei. The top-six remains largely unchanged, and if Vesey can establish himself, then the Rangers only have to find one top-9 winger as Fast is more than capable of being on that 3rd line.

Honestly, I can't help but think of RNH. The Oilers could use RW help, and will face some cap concerns when they re-sign McDavid and Draisaitl. At some point, Drai has to move to C. It doesn't make sense to have him playing the RW. They added Strome, and Chia was just in his presser saying he sees him as a C, and that he spent most of today laying the groundwork for possible trades. They also need some help on D with Sekera being out to start the year, and the Rangers might have a guy like Holden they'd be willing to spare.

The Rangers dealt AV's preferred match-up center. I think they'd probably like a defensively sound guy to lineup behind Zibanejad and play with Nash. Plus Chia is a moron, so maybe Gorton could pull one over on him.

That last sentence is what I'm hoping for. Chiarelli needs to open space to sign both big centers and he did get Strome.

The fact that the Rangers have stacked their defense leads me to believe they might be going with offensive minded people down the middle.. Zibanejad, Hayes, Miller.. we'll see

If they dump RNH it's for cap relief. I'd happily do Staal + Buch (not sure about people here) but they can get teams to give them a futures package and take that whole contract.

I agree, but I also think to compete with Pit we are going to have to be just as fast and skilled in the 1/2 punch.

Zib v Crosby
Hayes v Malkin

Such a mismatch. If they wan't to compete with Pittsburgh, a big change up the middle has to happen.

Gorton said we have spoken to some teams about a center. We may not be done yet. Does Nate M like NY Pizza? :D

I'm not sure Duchene (with what he is now) does that either..

Hayes sticks out like a sore thumb in comparison to those other 3.

Would Dallas move Spezza?.. I know they're trying to win, but they just signed Hanzal, doesn't Dallas need a top 6 F?

I might be in the minority, but I'm more than comfortable with Zib as our 1C. Additionally, I'm fairly certain he played PK in Ottawa... Hayes at 2C on the other hand, yuck.

Where do things go now at center, "I would say that we have some ongoing things to try and help us at center, we know it's a need and a hole there we are trying to fix. We also have the luxury of JT Miller, who we feel is a natural center and at some point we are hoping he can make that move and that gives us a little flexibility. We are looking. We have had some discussions with teams and trade scenarios. Definitely aware of the situation and see how it moves going forward."

Is it a trade scenario or a free agent, "I don't know. Hard to say. We are looking at both scenarios, check out the market and see what players can help you and prices and all of that info. We have talked to several teams about centers and we will see where it takes us."

Duchene or RNH....so basically we would be replacing Stepan for one guy that is -61 or another guy that wins only 40% of his face offs.

I think a legit 1C that pushes Zib to 2 and Hayes or Miller to 3 has a better chance than someone who is more of a 2C that puts us back to the Stepan/Zib scenario we had last year. I always felt Stepan would have been better suited at the 2 slot if we ever landed that #1. He was asked to do a lot at the 1, and to his credit did a heck of a job, but it's tough when you're matched up with Crosby and Tavares.

RNH I agree with you is not a solid option but Duchene gets killed here like he's some scrub. Stop it. His team and line mates are HORRENDOUS.
