has Klingberg really fallen that far?

I feel like it was two years ago everyone was talking about him as one of the better dmen in the league lol
Definitely still possible to regain that form. From what I've seen/read, the team's shift to a more defensive system was partially responsible... but some of the fundamentals weren't looking too hot either. Personally I'd give him a chance on a short-term deal. I think he bounces back and cashes in next offseason if he's allowed to play his more offensive game.

NHL teams want to distance themselves from this as much as possible. Hockey Canada and the investigation will play out however it does and no NHL team will want to be part of it.

If said players are involved or found guilty they probably will let repercussions come from those proceedings. It did not come under the NHL teams watch and they will just let whatever the outcome happen and move on.
Evander Kane was never charged with anything and the Sharks wanted nothing to do with him. I think there's a reason why Formenton hasn't been signed yet, despite having the same exact agent as Norris. Dorion even said he was trying to take out two bird with one stone negotiating with the agent.

I believe Formenton got a qualifying offer, I assume given the circumstances that he will sign it.

People might be getting Karlsson vibes from him.

Puck moving D about to hit 30 and already looking on the downturn, and now wants a long term big money deal?

Of course GMs are spooked.

Seth Jones 32% retained (6.5M cap x 8 years; 43M/8 years actual dollars after first year SB paid)

for

Zaitsev (4.5M x 2 years; 7M/2 years actual dollars)
2023 1st round pick (top 3 protected)
Prospect not named Greig.

Ottawa gets their top 4D at a great cap hit with chunk of dollars already paid out
Total spending is 43M in, 7M out = 36M for 8 years of a top 4 RHD.
Probably means we can't resign DeBrincat.
Giroux's money eventually goes to Sanderson.
Great insurance if we lose Zub.

I realize Hawks fans will want more, Sens fans won't want ot part with a 2023 1st round pick.

Karlsson vibes as in his ankle has disintegrated?

I mean Ottawa was in on DeAngelo Burns and Weegar

Seems like we want an offensive dman if that’s the case

He would probably look good with Sanderson. We need to have more than 1 offensively oriented defensemen on this team.
He is bad in defensive play. The Senators were bad at defensive play. We're trying to find someone to make up for Chabot's defensive mistakes. The addition of Klingberg will turn the Sens' defense into a big black hole.

There's RFAs to sign, an aribitration in 3 or 4 days, a potential quagmire involving Batherson and/or Formenton and a gaping hole in the top 4 D. If Zub was taking all their energy at this point in the offseason I'd be questioning their focus.

Hopefully it gets done before camp. You'd think someone so aggressively looking for a top-4 RD would try to secure the only one he already has.
Got to get Zub signed though regardless. That's a priority. If Zub walks, we have 2 holes to fill on the blueline and those defenders will play a lot of minutes for us. Dorion has to be able to multi-task.

Seth Jones at 6.5 for 8 years would be an absolute steal in a few years

He'd be an even bigger steal for free! Add mcdavid in too. Dorion likes 3 ways.

So silly when posters devote paragraphs to explaining why a useless trade offer is so good for the team paying 20 million dollars for a prospect and a pick.

If the team is actually a playoff contender this year, Zub’s play will likely get a boost from the whole team being better, any contract extension will probably just get more and more expensive as the season goes on.
I’m not yet in the camp of the people pissed with Dorion for not extending Zub yet but I am interested in subscribing to their newsletter.

We needed Carlo or Marino or Miller or Manson or Cernnak or Weegar
We have no one to defend a part from Zub

The hope may be that they could help develop Sanderson's offensive game since it sounds like he has more offensive upside than what was first thought!

Also copycat league and Colorado won by going all-in on offense.
