Heinen re-signs in Pittsburgh for only 1M.

We're in bargain season now. This is where a budget team like the Sens should typically be more active.

Bet decent bottom 6 guys like Rodrigues, Motte, Larsson, Raffl, Ennis, Svechnikov, etc... will probably all sign for between league minimum and 1.5M.

With the status of Batherson and Formenton up in the air, should definitely add another depth forward or two.
We just signed one on a two way. We have plenty of bottom 6 options already. No need to grab anyone right now.

Hawryluk just failed to hit 0.5 PPG in Sweden.

He should definitely be expecting to be in Belleville for most of the year.
Hope so.

We have

Formenton Pinto joseph
Kelly Kastelic Watson
Gambrell

These guys can be called up for injuries
Reinhart
Hawryluk
Sokolov
Crookshank
Greig
Lodin

There are also boatloads of depth forwards who pass through waivers during the year.

He’s not a third liner lol
I never said he was. Weird comment.

That's a little disappointing. I was thinking the ball was probably already rolling on this.
There's RFAs to sign, an aribitration in 3 or 4 days, a potential quagmire involving Batherson and/or Formenton and a gaping hole in the top 4 D. If Zub was taking all their energy at this point in the offseason I'd be questioning their focus.

Klingberg I would not touch with twn foot poll.

Oster is going to try and get him max money although not sure many teams with cap space willing to give him a payday.

-53 over the past 3 seasons on a Stars team that had an even goal differential during that period. Bowness played a very tight almost trap game. His offensive numbers were stiffled in Dallas but I think he over played the market because of defensive short comings.

I think we need to look at teams with cap issues and target them. Wegaer and JC are probably too costly.

Heinen - perpetual 30 point player with one year at 16 goals and 47 pts, and recently 18 goals, 27 years of age. Originally got 2.8M x 2 year bridge coming off ELC after his 47 pt season which was followed by a 34 pt season.

Very comparable to Formenton who just had an 18 goal, 32 point season. I don't see Formenton getting less than 2.5M on a 2-3 year contract, mor likely 3.0M x 2 years, unless he's desperate with the HC stuff for whatever reason.

Heinen is pretty good defensively. Formenton, despite having that reputation, was pretty lost defensively last season.

There's really no reason he should be getting above 2.5 mil this season, especially considering what actual defensively-responsible 3rd liners have been getting on the open market so far.

Add inflation from his 2019 bridge though, and the fact that 47 pts + 34 pts in his sophore and third season compared to Formenton's weak sophomore year and 32 pt third season, I still can't see him getting less than 2.5M on a bridge if management sees a disparity in their skill level.

I disagree, I think Forms had a great season and was defensively solid on team riddled with covid, Injuries, weak goaltending (except Forsberg) and very suspect defensemen.

His speed is his best asset for sure. He's always a threat on the PK.

He was lost a lot defensively but I am okay with that given everything else he brings to the table.

I will be happy to see Formenton cleared of any charges and we can move on from constantly looking for contingency plans and/or presumption of guilt.
I honestly don’t see this going anywhere. This “new” investigation by LPS is all optics IMO. No charges or new civil suits will be the end of it.

has Klingberg really fallen that far?

I feel like it was two years ago everyone was talking about him as one of the better dmen in the league lol

He's 29, wants a long term deal and had a rough season. To say nothing of how GM are suddenly much more mindful about cap space.

He's signed for next season. Lots of time to get something done and there are more pressing issues

I find it hard to believe the names won't come out at some point, especially with sponsors fleeing. Just because there are no legal repercussions, it doesn't mean the players can't face any from their NHL teams.

Remember, Formenton doesn't have a contract at the moment. The Sens have no obligation to sign him,

For sure there are reasons why it hasnt happened with some other priorities, but I have just been assuming this will need to be a high priority with Chabot being the only other proven top 4 with term. Guess it could depend on any remaining plans for D aquisition this year, but he feels like a guy we cant afford to lose.

And I guess I was just thinking the seed might have at least been planted even if its not high on the list atm, but no contact yet says otherwise.

NHL teams want to distance themselves from this as much as possible. Hockey Canada and the investigation will play out however it does and no NHL team will want to be part of it.

If said players are involved or found guilty they probably will let repercussions come from those proceedings. It did not come under the NHL teams watch and they will just let whatever the outcome happen and move on.

Batherson has a contract and Formenton could simply sign the QO.
