Was that rumor an E3 or E4?

Nobody in the league could make any trades because of how cap and budget locked most teams were.

They were trying to make a move to bring in Pinto and were unable to, which luckily was a good thing because something like Joseph and an asset to Philadelphia would be a tough pill to swallow after the Pinto suspension.
Nobody is an exaggeration you don't know that....There is always a team that can make a trade,, teams are always budget capped and if they were budget capped then, they are still budget capped now. If we make trades now obviously we are in a much weaker position, teams will see we are desperate.

What about something around Norris and Chychrun for Dubois and picks+prospects or a defenseman?

Dubois is clearly not working out in LAK. While it's only been half a season, his contract might create incentive for the Kings to trade him in a change of scenery type move. That is because his NMC kicks in on July 1st. He also has a massive buyout proof contract.

They were tied to Chychrun previously. They have a very deep prospect pool. While I would love to get Brandt Clarke, I doubt they would give him up.

Or, it could be just Norris for Dubois.

Dubois is by far the more valuable player, leaps and bounds, but I would wonder if the situation would make them consider cutting bait if they could get a different young star back.

So, since leaving Clb, Dubious has paced at

40 pts in a year where Norris paced at 51
61 pts in a year Norris paced at 68
70 pts in a year Norris missed to injury
and is pacing at 35 pts in a year Norris is pacing at 56.

At some point the shine is going to wear off of Dubious, he has loads of tools, but he needs to consistently apply them

I for one would be hesitant to pay a premium for him while he's having a down year.

He's 34 with 4 years left and he's on ltir. I'm not ++ anything. I want + from SJ.
He’s nearing a return. It could be an off season move to see how couture fares but it’s the sens looking for a vet, the sharks aren’t inclined to trade him to us and can get a bidding war going. I think Norris alone wouldn’t do it considering we’re now seeing him as an anchor, so I assume a prospect and picks will be needed as well (maybe sharks retain to help with the value)

Than I don't get him.

There was a "laziest player" thread recently and Dubois was all over it. If we've got culture concerns I'm not sure he's your guy.

Could be interesting though, I'm not entirely opposed.

I think we have to step back for a moment. Norris needs the rest of the season to get back on track after his injury before we really know what he'll be in the future. And we also need a player like Pinto as a 3C if we want to contend one day. Same with the Chabot/Chychrun scenario.

I get everyone is angry at the team right now, but we can't go throwing away the depth we do have at forward or defense at a time of anger. It's way too hard to find legit top 2 centers and top 4 defensemen in this league.

Wouldn't take on Dubois for free. He's not worth 8.5M x 8.

Winnipeg dodged a massive bullet trading him when they did. Said the same when CBJ dealt away Anderson.

Yeah Norris' lackadaisical play has always pissed me off, but he doesn't look right handling passes right now. Have to think it's his shoulder.

Hopefully it doesn't become a long-term issue.

Dreger saying someone from Philly asked him about Pinto yesterday.

Would the Flyers have anyone we want? konecny?

I could definitely see Pinto to Philly happening.

He definitely pissed the team off, first with his contract demands and then with the gambling thing.

Philly was just forced to trade Gauthier, who they had penciled in as their future top line center. They only have Couturier and Laughton (who's better at LW) as centers in their long-term plans, with no good center prospects in their system.

There's also Frost, but Tortorella doesn't think much of him and he is probably a better fit for the wing.

Can't see Philly subtracting much off their roster to add Pinto since they are going for the playoffs, but I could see something like Frost + Bonk for Pinto+.

Norris deserves credit for even playing in a top six role after returning from a season-long injury. Dorion needed to acquire a suitable bargain 2nd line centre rental (ala a Haula or a Johansson) so that we could ease him up the lineup, but no, had to throw him straight into the fire. Norris should of had the chance to just chill on the 3rd line and find his game again against easier matchups.

You don't get to chill making $8 million per. And he 's not having to play 1st line either. He also got to rehab all summer. Bottom line is he was well enough to play so he should play his role.

I know this isn't the main takeaway - but why would someone from an NHL org ask Dreger about Pinto?

I assume he meant someone from Philly asked Staios about Pinto.

As they should. They need a potential top 2 line center more than any other team in the league, and with the unfortunate loss of Gauthier maybe they'd be willing to overpay for Pinto.

there are 32 teams, some 800 players. 32 AHL teams, some 700 players.. 60 CHL teams and 120 or so drafted players.

good luck in keeping tabs. So you turn to people who can have info.

Dreger is an insider.. gets all sorts of info. He focuses on Canada, so he watches all 7 teams closely.

That makes him a good source for info, for opinion.. and so on.. So, yes, hockey people will reach out to him.

if he says someone contacted him.. they did and I can guarantee you, he gets all 32 teams reaching out to him fairly regularly on all sorts of matters.

Nobody who has a staff would waste their time asking Darren f***ing dreger anything about players. That’s like me calling a mortgage broker to fix my BBQ

you have never worked in a field that is broad have you????

I worked in sales for construction equipment... You have no idea what insiders are like.. In construction.. it is the concrete people.. Your MCONs. Foreterres, etc.

You have no idea how valuable city workers are. You have no idea how valuable conservation authority people are. and other central figures.. You have no idea how valuable estimators at construction companies are.. estimators at consulting firms.. and so on.

You need them, because it allows you to get info that is difficult to get on your own. That is Dreger and others..

How do you find out what Pinto is like in the locker room???? who will tell you? Who will tell you if he has a nagging injury?

all of this is info that is generally circulating within an organization and leaks out to a closed circle.. And so, it is info available to Dreger through his contacts and network.

Do you think this info is made available to a scout from Phili? to exec's from Phili??? Would some Sens Athletic therapist tell a Phili scout.. or does he tell a Dean Brown, who tells a Jamie Maclennan, who tells a Daren Dreger.

Phili calls Dreger and gets his opinion. And Dreger having watched tons of Sens games and discussed the Sens with other sources. Becomes a huge source of info and opinion.

He is professional enough to not cause trouble. But all he has to be is silent on some key question and Phili execs get it. So if he is asked about an injury, if he declines to answer... Phili has their answer.

trust me, I would be a millionaire now, if I had learned to schmooze and be generous.

I’d be hesitant to trade Norris as it’s his first year back from a major injury. Batherson looked terrible last year but has had spurts of being back to normal this season

You can also move Norris to wing with Pinto back in the mix

Chabot is the guy to move.
