Around the bend
Wouldn't be surprised to see a setup move soon. Pinto coming back shortly.

I could see Kubalik or Brannstrom heading out.

Followed by Tank. Maybe a good option to retain on to get a decent return.

I think you have to trade one of Chychrun or Chabot. I would prefer Chabot, but you aren't going to get anything back with his contract.

Chyc is having a good year, and would have real value to a contender or bubble team. Could really open up a wide market. Chabot would have an extremely limited market.

Hard to find a deal for the underperforming forwards. Norris would be hard to move with his anchor contract. Bath could be shipped out in a change of scenery trade for a RD.

Hamonic and Kastelic closer to the deadline if any playoff teams want cheap depth.

Dreger saying someone from Philly asked him about Pinto yesterday.

Would the Flyers have anyone we want? konecny?

If there is an actual fire around a Philadelphia trade, it would have to be Scott Laughton. He fits our rumoured ask.

Laughton and Oliver Bonk (or a 1st) for Pinto. Philadelphia would have to take Brannstrom and Kubalik to make the cap work. They would have to send us a cheap NHL depth D.

Obviously, that would bad for Ottawa, unless you're high on Bonk.

In hindsight we should have made a couple of big trades in late October when we had a 3 game losing skid October 21 to October 26. There were other teams that were having skids that might have been trading partners. Now that we look completely lost the vultures will be coming around because we will trading from a huge position of weakness and our players weaknesses are really being exposed. I think we would have got a lot more for our players in late October and we might have had a chance to change the player culture at that point of the season and maybe we could have changed the whole season. We all knew what our needs were so Staios and company would have known as well.....but they sat back and waited and waited....

At this point I would even consider Guentzel-EK for Norris-Chabot (Guentzel re-signed at 6-7) if Pens don't make Playoffs
Better center, more experienced, proven winner
Better D, right handed,1 year remote from ultra elite season, tickets seller
2x8millions vs 10+6 ish

What worse could happen? Losing games ? hahahahahah yeah right

Chabot with the puck is an adventure. What in gods name happened to him? He doesn't seem to be able to make a good pass and seems to skate himself into trouble (amongst other things). In the last 2 or 3 years he doesn't look like the player we saw in the first 2 or 3 years.

from July 2021 until December 2023 the team was practically frozen.

Melnyk was dying and no one was looking after things July 2021-April 2022
Melnyk dies, teh board takes over, possible sale... no moves April 2022 to Sept 2023
Andlauer comes in, new.. no moves until he gets his feet wet.. Sept 2023 to Dec 2023.

Sadly everything was locked. The combination of Eugen dying and a board preoccupied by a sale let 2 years go by.

Once Dec. 2023 hit, too late to save 2023/2024... and 2 years of bad moves, inaction, no changes at GM or coach meant more and more damage.

I thought of Guentzel as well as he is a free agent. Penguins have about $18 m of cap space with I think just 13 players under contract, but Guentzel is the only expensive free agent they have.

Note - Edited after reviewing CapFriendly more closely.

The rumor early this week was Hart and Bonk

Was that rumor an E3 or E4?

Nobody in the league could make any trades because of how cap and budget locked most teams were.

They were trying to make a move to bring in Pinto and were unable to, which luckily was a good thing because something like Joseph and an asset to Philadelphia would be a tough pill to swallow after the Pinto suspension.

Hasn't looked like the same player since the DeMelo trade. Injuries haven't helped.

Not trading anymore low cost controlled assets for players that are a year away from UFA. Pinto stays.

Norris for Hertl who says no?
Hertl is signed until he's 37. It changes the team for sure though.

What about something around Norris and Chychrun for Dubois and picks+prospects or a defenseman?

Dubois is clearly not working out in LAK. While it's only been half a season, his contract might create incentive for the Kings to trade him in a change of scenery type move. That is because his NMC kicks in on July 1st. He also has a massive buyout proof contract.

They were tied to Chychrun previously. They have a very deep prospect pool. While I would love to get Brandt Clarke, I doubt they would give him up.

Or, it could be just Norris for Dubois.

Dubois is by far the more valuable player, leaps and bounds, but I would wonder if the situation would make them consider cutting bait if they could get a different young star back.

I didn't say it wasn't. Why would you assume that?... But 3 years of a new coach the message gets thin and all teaching has likely been instilled. They needed a new voice. Obviously dorion can't identify that and melnyk was too cheap to hire the right person.

Yes he did keep a tight room amongst a psychotic owner and a petty scummy GM who had no leadership skills. During covid, a tear down, no talent and no fans. Bad culture? He kept them away from it. Do you have any memory recall?
What evidence do we have that DJ kept a tight room?

Norris + Chychrun vs Dubois + Roy
