my initial thought was Blake Coleman as a veteran target

Also If we have a good idea Chych will resign I would explore trading Chabot, that would be the shock to the core piece I would move.
Coleman is having a career year, I don't see us paying the premium CGY would be asking for right now

Wrt trading Chabot, it would give Chych so much leverage, really would want to get Chych extended first but we can't do that until this offseason.

I don't think anyone reasonable believe this...

Dorion was a disaster, it is silly to think a walking disaster's output is any good.

The rebuild was very poorly carried out. Good players, bad team. Dorion assembled a team that would be good in Chel.
Only if you played the games, if you simmed they still lose lol

I would kill to get Coleman on this team. The price tag would be hefty right now though.

Dorion was the architect of all/vast majority of the problems the team is facing, DJ succumbed to those issues of the guys we have on the team.
Dorion was certainly the architect of this year's cap problem

Rolling forward beyond this year, I think our problems are somewhat minimal or phrased another way... overblown

A few guys have pointed out that talent is the hardest thing to acquire. We need players to learn defensive discipline. But that's learning not talent. You cannot learn talent.

I think we're in good shape rolling forward. There's a few things to clean up. The biggest imo is the Chychrun Chabot situation because there isn't room to pay 22 or 23+ M in cap to LD.

Leverage goes both ways. With Chychrun the issue is whether he wants to be here. If he does, the leverage goes both ways. If he wants to move on, it doesn't really matter what we're prepared to pay.

His body language is often quite bad. It seems the honeymoon is over.

I don't mind his body language, I just think he's an ultra competitive guy, more than your average player (which is part why I want him over Chabot)

I think it's becoming clear that Chychrun is very likely moving before the deadline. Garrioch has floated it a few times, and he's also pretty high up on Seravalli's trade board with the following commentary...

The Sens have been one of the most active teams in the league in recent weeks as they examine who will be part of their core for the long haul. Multiple teams have inquired about Chychrun, acquired from Arizona just 10 months ago, and they haven’t been told that Chychrun is unavailable. The truth is, the Senators have a logjam on the left side of their defense. Although Chychrun can play the right side, Thomas Chabot ($8 million) and Jake Sanderson ($8.05 million extension) are also both left-shooting defensemen.

With SS, Poulin, and Bowness ar the TBL LA game, who are some players they could be looking at?

My first thought is Matt Roy from LA. RD, 28 years old, LA has solid RD depth.

Someone's always injured, how could there be a logjam?
That is certainly a concern.

I guess you just have to assess your roster as it would look if it were reasonably healthy. Under those circumstances it is a waste of cap resources to allocate ~25M to three guys that are essentially the same player. They're already committed to Chabot and Sanderson.

I feel like the Chychrun situation is heading down the Duchene path. A guy comes from a losing environment and is hyped to have a shot at winning, but it just ends up more of the same. To be honest, I doubt he'd even want to extend here this summer. So get ahead of it and get the max return possible and begin re-tooling the roster.
