Anyone see this blurb about Tarasenko from Seravalli?

Keeping Tarasenko beyond the deadline without a contract in place would be insanely bad asset management.

Feel like I'm getting deja vu here.
That was from several weeks back, still quite a ways from the deadline. I didn’t read into it too much.

If you can't get a 1st for Tarasenko, you give him plus our 2nd for their 1st, conditional on the 1st being at least 10 picks earlier than ours, otherwise it carries over to next year.
You never know when somebody will flop overnight like SJ did, giving us Stutzle.

We wouldn't have landed Tarasenko at all without giving him control of where he goes.

If he's open to a trade, I would absolutely move him, but if he doesn't want to go anywhere that's just the cost of doing business.

Not necessarily a failure of management.

Now, if management decides they don't want to try and move him because they want to extend him, I would consider that a terrible idea.

minimal chance Korpi gets bought out
I wouldn't say chances are minimal. Definitely not the most likely outcome.

Chances are very high there will be a goaltending change for next year. Does the team keep Korpi, Forsberg or Neither? More likely than not with salary and level of play they would want to keep Forsberg.

Now when it comes to moving the worst goalie this year especially after signing him to a contract that no one else was offering before he proved this amazing accomplishment. The sens will need to take back a disgusting contract, retain half the contract in a trade, or explore the buyout.

Usually it is career suicide for a GM to buy out a player one year after giving out a long term contract, however that career is already dead. A buyout of Korpi is very affordable on the salary cap, and gives the team the least headache in moving him out.

If the Rangers end up targeting Tarasenko again, then I think the return will be some combination of the following assets: NYR 1st, NYR 2nd, Will Cuylle, Matt Rempe, Brett Berard.

It has been reported that they are unwilling to move Othmann or Perreault and I am assuming they likely won't be moving Schneider either, or at least not for a rental.

The only shot the Sens have at landing a 1st for Tarasenko is to take back a bad contract along with the pick. LeBrun reported that Calgary had that option with Tanev, but elected to take the cleaner deal with Dallas. He also speculated that the player may have been Cody Ceci or possibly Ryan Johansen.

Not sure if those deals would be available for a winger. Scoring wingers tend to be abundant and relatively low-value, and the market is starting to get flooded; Guentzel, Toffoli, Buchnevich, Eberle, and Vatrano are all out there.

Guentzel, Vatrano and Buchnevich aren't a guarantee to be moved and Jersey is still in a playoff race, so they're unlikely to move Toffoli.

I still don't think we trade Chychrun even if he doesnt resign.

4.6 mill top 4 defensemen for a team who wants to make the playoffs next year is very valuable.

What would we even get for him this deadline? a mid/low first and a b prospect? Does that really help us more than having his cheap contract on the books ?

We likely get a 2nd for Tarasenko and thus will have 2 firsts and 2 seconds which is more than enough to draft talent and also make moves if needed

If the sens are smart they cut salary elsewhere (Tarasenko and Kubalik to start) and find a decent RD in the trade or UFA market this summer. They don't need to add a 7mill guy.

Why the love for Rempe? We already have a guy who knocked him clean out and n a doozy of a fight down in Belleville, who looks to have the potential to be a much better player.

Heck, I’d way rather have MacEwan up here to fight if necessary because he has looked pretty good as a fourth liner under Jacque.

I love the rough stuff, but I waaaay prefer it as a heated response from guys like Brady, Smith, Fisher, Kasty, etc… I have zero interest in a ‘heavy weight’ who can barely play, who can’t really fight anyone other than other huge guys because it would be a douche move.

We need courage, grit, and toughness that can play up and down the lineup, and we have a couple of those guys brewing in Belleville.

Reilly Smith
Left/Right Wing, Pittsburgh Penguins
Age: 32
Stats: 50 GP, 10 G, 15 A, 25 Pts
Contract: 1 year remaining, $5 million AAV
Scoop: Interestingly enough, the Penguins have more teams on the horn about Smith than they do about Jake Guentzel, who is clearly the best forward available prior to the deadline. For whatever reason, Smith hasn’t worked out as intended in Pittsburgh. The Pens took on Smith’s full $5 million salary from Vegas as a cap casualty and only gave up a third-round pick to get him. It was a worthy gamble but hasn’t paid off. Now, the Penguins could leverage their salary cap space and retain half on Smith to make him a quality addition (with term) that nearly every team in the league could afford. One of the original Golden Misfits, Smith was a horse for Vegas in the playoffs last year, racking up 14 points on the way to their first Stanley Cup win.

he would be perfect retained
