Brannstrom steps up as he usually does, duh.

Sanderson
Chabot
Brannstrom
Kleven

is plenty of LD depth.
4 players is not plenty. We are relying on a lot for 3 D under 25 who have played 241 games, 131 games and 13 games.

Tanev only getting a late 2nd is interesting. I guess technically, it's a 2nd, a prospect a conditional 3rd (if SCF appearance) and a 4th for 50% the extra 25% retention by NJD.

So, that set the market for the 50% 25% retention portion of a Tarasenko trade at a 4th, maybe a 3rd.

That leaves 2nd, prospect and conditional 3rd for the player; Is Tank worth more than Tanev? Can we squeeze a 1st out of somebody?

Edit: For reference, at last years draft, 27 OA was traded for 40th and 51st picks, so Dallas' 2nd is worth about 51, not sure what the prospect is worth, but he was picked a few years ago at 48 as a defensive minded LHD with top 4 potential.

Norris - LTIR
Korpisalo - Robidas Island
Tarasenko - Trade
Kubalik - Trade
Chychrun - Trade
Hamonic - part of dump in a trade

Frees up 13M in salary
We recoup 4M in dead cap space next year
Cap increases 5M
12M in LTIR room if we’re a cap team

34M available to sign a Goalie, 1 or 2 top six forwards and a top 4 right D
Goalie 6M
7M x 2 forwards
7M Right D

Leaves 6M to sign Pinto and maybe slight upgrade in bottom 6.

We gain assets from most of the trades and can take back cap dumps. Team would be substantially stronger IMO vs today and returned assets to leverage or grow.

Trick is convincing Korpisalo he’s allergic to his equipment cause a buyout doesn’t threaten him. He’d still earn 10M and could likely get a 1.5-2M contract elsewhere and ends up making more
We will actually lose a draft pick if we use robidas island

It's 75% retention isn't it?

For a 34yo pending UFA?
That's irrelevant for a deadline deal, they're trading for the rental this season, not the future. Teams looking to add a defensive D, he is the best player by a significant margin on the market.

Giroux was a 34 year old pending UFA as well, Panthers just wanted him for the playoff run. Stars are no different here. O'Rielly 33.

A team like the Sens it makes absolutely no sense to trade a 1st away, but a team like the Leafs, Panthers or Stars who are looking to make a run and don't care too much about a 25th+ overall pick, they usually get traded for guys like Tanev every year.

Age isn't relevant when you're talking about a rental, all that matters is his current level of play and he's still playing at a top 4 level.

He was the top RHD on the market, and there was lots of interest in him. Whether that makes him worth a 1st or not (apparently not) is up to the market, all I'm saying is Mike Johnson who is more in the loop with GMs than any of us, was surprised.

last year there was almost an arms race with some of the top teams

so far this year it seems like teams with good assets are still not sure if they are a playoff team or not

I alos wonder because Tanev has been injured recently if they didnt want to risk it

I personally would have waited

Tanev gets a 1st most other years.

The two bigger name Cs got a 1st early because there are almost no top 6 Cs on the market.

Last year was a seller's market. Based on how few trades have happened, that doesn't seem to be the case this year.

Unless an extension comes through as part of a trade, someone might get a great deal on Hanifin because Calgary has to move him. Similar to the position we were in when Stone.

To NYR: Tarasenko RW & Chychrun LD (Ott retain $3 mil)
To Ott: Chytil LW, Schneider RD & Rempe RW

NYR - get two good players for their playoff push
Ott - get a young pt producer to replace Tarasenko, a coveted young RD, a legit young enforcer & some cap space for next yr

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux - pt producing top line
Chytil - Norris - Batherson - secondary scoring
Greig - Pinto - Joseph - fast attacking 3rd line
Ostapchuk - Kastelic - Rempe/Kelly - big, tough 4th line

Chabot - Zub - decent top pairing
Sanderson - Schneider - future top pairing
Kleven - JBD - shutdown 3rd pairing
Donovan - Guennette - Belleville callups

Ott - still need to fix their goaltending
Out - Kubalik (Europe), Brannstrom (Europe), Hamonic (buyout)

this doesn't do much for me.

Rempe is a plug and Chytil is not what we need upfront.

We need a heavy winger who can play. The sens are better off waiting and see what shakes loose. If Islanders sell Nelson that is more the type we need.

That's a lot more than the Sens would get I think, Chytil injured of course but should he get back

Sens would be very happy with that if they could get it

Chytil is dealing with a pretty serious post-concussion recovery, so he is not being traded right now.

I'm surprised it took you this long to trade for Rempe.
