Cap will be tight for 2 years... then it takes off... along with the NMCs falling off.

We're fine
Well if the difference between someone like Kadri and Trocheck is 20-25 million I would probably have to stick to the conservative side and go with the safer bet. No one knows for sure what the cap will be in 2 years.

Yesterday the RFAs were allowed to talk to teams and I don't think anyone mentioned it.

Fair enough
I also think, and this is speculation, that major emergency changes have to be coming to the cap system at some point.

It continues to be stagnant and contracts are going up and up and up.

You've got LTIR shenanigans, teams not being able to afford qualifying offers, and Chicago with the most blatant nuking of a team the sport has ever seen. The league is falling apart.

Sooner or later, salaries are going to cave overnight just for teams to ice a full roster, and the PA will strike.

Oh daddy

Joe sakic decided to pass on Kadri and sign Manson and NIchushkin to a total of what 10.5 plus annually? tells you something. and they don't really have an established number 2 c yet either (Newhook maybe?)

Halak would be an amazing grab. Maybe he wants a shot at a cup for 1-1.5 million annually?

IMO, Avs just showed with enough speed (total speed of your game including moving the puck) you can break through. Tampa tried to run that playbook and had the ice tilted against them most of the series. Devils are setting up to be similar "pinball wizards".

Landeskog, Rantanen and Nichuskin are all pretty big bodies though that played in their top 6.

Devils don't have that compliment. You might be able to break through but it's ALOT harder to "stay through" when you're that small.

Trocheck was our best option, I hope it happens. He will pair very well with Panarin.

I think they're banking on Newhook being that 2C. I don't blame them, Newhook is a good talent and will fit in that high-octane Avs offense.

Plus they don't have anyone close to Makar or Toews

I’ll bite. Which teams had a 3C comparable to Trocheck?
easy answer off the top is tampa when they won their cups with gourde

comphers stats are actually in line with trochecks norms, although trocheck is much better player

jeff carter in pitt
kerfoot in toronto
copp in winnpeg before he was traded to be a 2nd liner and now we want to replace him (ironic)
charlie coyle in boston isnt far off
jordan staal has been the 3c on good teams and was over elevated as a 2c at times in his career
anton lundell in florida is better by a mile as a rookie and if he is elevated to a 2c role then sam bennet becomes a 3c which we would love here as our 2c

these are just off my head
