Kevyn Adams GM thread

This. Very much this. Please.

That's why I want someone like Mark Messier ... I really don't want him to have any power or say in things... Just pay him to be a figure head... Getting a call from Mark Messier can be an eye opener for some of these young UFA's or convincing people to waive their NTC

Or, they are wondering who the old guy calling them is...

I mean, Messier played his last NHL game before Benson was born...

And more than half the roster was 5yo or less when he last suited up for the Rangers.

Right... like they don't know who Messier is. Are you kidding me?

Messier doesn't have any experience as a GM or agent. I wouldn't think he fits the need for a guiding voice at the top. If we look at his experience level, it's reminiscent of Pat LaFontaine when Terry hired him.

Said another way, he's not PoHO material. Rookie GM who could highstick people into shape and scare them into playing better or making a trade? Maybe. But not as PoHO.

Like I said.. no power.. no decision making. Just pay the guy to be the voice and face.

If i had 8 billion dollars and owned this team that is what I would do.

I know Terry won't

If I had 8 billion dollars, I would look for someone like Lombardi and tell him to make me a winner with the understanding that Dean is not daily operations and GM, but president. Then I would sit down in my owner's box and watch my toy on the ice and be around to find out what everyone needs while staying the f*** out of personnel decisions beyond just willingness to pick up the contract.

If I had 8 billion dollars I would buy the Leafs and hire Kevyn Adams as GM for life and enjoy the shit out of watching them break our NHL record drought

Yep.

Someone like Lombardi would be good as POHO..and I would have someone with reputation and clout as VPOHO ..

Lombardi would hire GM
GM would hire coach.
GM and Lombardi would work together to put together front office.
Coach would hire his assistants

Except I would definitely be involved in all the draft day and trade deadline and ufa days... because I find it fun.

As long as I don't flex my authority it will be good.

That's what I have been saying since the day that clown bought the team.

Im not sure why the concept is so difficult to understand. Give someone like Lombardi, Poile, Holland, etc a huge 8-figure check, with some sort of franchise performance bonus to build a 1st class hockey program.

Then, yes, retreat to the box, be available if anyone needs you, sit back, enjoy it, and take credit, adoration, and revenue when things go well.

That sounds more fun than pretending to analyze scouting reports

Whew.... Kevyn is thankful for the trip to Florida this weekend for his vacation.

He's worked so hard on the trade deadline to get the Greenway extension completed. But now that all his work for the week is complete he's planning on spending a relaxing weekend at the marina swabbing decks on the Pegula Yacht.

EDIT: "swabbing decks" is a euphemism. I'll let ya'll decide what it stands for.

In my opinion, heavy experience and credibility is desperately needed for the poho role. No other move is going to save this franchise. Underneath the poho, I'm fine with a rookie gm.

The experience and credibility is important because the Sabres have no credibility on all fronts, media, fans, nhlpa, probably potential employees, front office staff, etc.

Also, the repairs needed are pretty much... total. The whole thing needs to be reset, rebranded, restructured, and re-staffed. I want experience and the most extensive rolodex for that.

Experience with a poho will also give him better ability to navigate dealing with the simpleton of an owner they have, keep him at bay and feeling heard or happy or however else he wants to feel

All valid points. I think the only place we'd differ in our opinions is the correlation between experience and credibility. Plenty of new guys some into franchises and seem to have instant respect and credibility in the league.

Sorry to conflate hockey with football, but the chase for experience reminds of when Pegula hired Rex Ryan for the Bills. f*** that... find me the next Brandon Beane for the Sabres, someone smart, aggressive, well respected in the league, and a guy that has a vision he can execute.

I think you are overestimating the pull that Messier would have on the younger generation of NHL player.
Is that the biggest thing Messier brings? He also brings respect around the league, connections to other people and organizations along with stability. Having someone like Mark Messier instantly changes the reputation of the franchise.

I am not saying Mark Messier even wants the job but bringing in someone of that calibre signals a change for this franchise around the league.

How about Ken Holland as POHO?

We'll never get a POHO under Pegula.

Brian Burke quote from a while past, no relation to the Sabres: "When I'm GM, there's only 2 hands on the wheel, and they're both mine"

Pegula will never, because it wants his stupid opinions (If we sign Taylor Hall, we're GOING FOR A CUP!) to be heard, and no one smart is going to do that.

This only improves by luck, or Pegula leaving the Sabres.

I just want the season over, this idiot fired so we can find out what idiotic move the moron owner will do to make us all hate our lives just a little bit more

He’s not getting fired.

It’s very clear he isn’t getting fired.

Our only hope is that his contract isn’t renewed whenever it is up. But he won’t be paid to leave.

Just hope it’s up after next year…and laugh at the people who argue it isn’t about saving money.

John Mayer knows who Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page are. He would take their calls as would Benny Messier's

Messier would really light a fire under these guys to beat the Quebec Nordiques
