The poster that I originally replied to was suggesting Pasta was performing at an elite level this series while Nylander had not; i was pointing out that wasn’t the case. Which was true.

But agreed lots of hockey to still be played

How confident are we that Nylander outperforms Pasta?

He might, he might not; production wise I doubt there will be a major gap but that will be influenced by how hot the Bruins PP stays

Regardless I also don’t understand why we are comparing these two guys so frequently?

Hits don’t make a player elite....

Nylander’s got two points in two playoff games, Pasta only happens to have one assist. Nylander outplayed him the first game, while Pasta had the edge last night. There’s hardly been a huge gap between them this series
your in denial, it's not even close, and being physical doesn't make you elite it makes you a complete player, THAT makes you elite.

Something like this would be nice:

That's my counter. I won't post my minors lineup because it doesn't change a whole lot, but I have the Leafs also signing Brouwer and Smith-Pelly for some added toughness and veteran leadership on the Marlies/for competition on the Leafs.

Signings
C/RW Noel Acciari - 2 years x 1.5mill AAV
LW Andreas Johnsson - 4 years x 2.5mill AAV
RW Kasperi Kapanen - 3 years x 2.5 mill AAV
RW Mitch Marner - 8 years x 10.9316mill AAV (he'd get UFA money right away - 13.17% - like Matthews, but over an 8 year deal)

Trades

it won't even be close, Nylander put in his playoff effort in the fist game, I see him mailing in the rest of his performance with the exception of maybe another goal or two.........into our own net. :sarcasm:

Meh... Which d men do we rely on for the PK?

Wasn't it posted?

Muzzin-Pesce/Dermott-Liljegren

Maybe Rielly and Rosen gets a bit in there too if Liljegren is not deemed ready. Liljegren has been a solid PKer on the Marlies from what I've seen. It may be asking a lot out of him, but I think he's ready for it.

Otherwise, maybe we have to find a way to fit in someone like Hainsey for another year. But I don't think we need to TBH.

What's the infatuation with him? He's really not that good. He's not even all that physical either. He's more like an over-the-hill Hyman than a physical force, and he's coming off an injury which may do who knows what to him.

There are a bunch of guys; Carpenter, Acciari, Hathaway, Brouwer, etc. who would be cheap additions and add some good two-way grit for the 4th line.

Honestly I'd rather just go with our internal options over any of those guys. Marchment/Timashov/Engvall/Carcone should all be pushing for that bottom LW spot that Moore has right now and Bracco should be pushing for a spot on RW.

I know people want grit over anything but we have better players than those guys in the system.

I really think the Pesce ship has sailed. As a Canes fans 1st, Leafs fan 2nd, I know I wouldn't trade him for Kadri. Definitely wouldn't move him for Kapanen/Johansson+ either. Of course, in real life, I don't get a vote.

I never really considered Acciari. I think he'd be a nice addition on a cheap 1 or 2 year deal.

Maroon, C.Smith, Tanev and Spezza are a few good targets if they fail to get signed in the first few days of free agency and have to take a smaller cap hit.

I don't mind making it a competition, but Marchment and Engvall need another year IMO, and I wouldn't mind seeing Timashov and Carcone go through a Moore year before getting an NHL job. We could sign one of those guys for a year or two.

I should also mention, all of those guys have more grit and two-way ability. As much as people seem to think Marchment brings that, he doesn't bring it as much as those guys usually do. Carpenter maybe excepted, but even he's decently chippy when he needs to be.

I think Maroon sticks in STL. Smith and Spezza are not good enough. Would rather give Brassard a shot. Tanev is nice, but he'll get a ton of interest from guys who lose out on Dzingel and Ferland IMO.

I think they could like Aho, Kadri, Staal down the middle. Maybe it's not one-for-one, but I think it would be enticing at least.

Maybe, maybe not. Faulk will likely be gone (as he's a UFA in 1 year) so I think they'd also like Hamilton and Pesce down the RHD side just as much which would be maybe more enticing. Not to mention that Pesce is the best defensive RHD the Canes have.

Kadri, with his poor season (relatively speaking) and his suspensions in 2 straight playoffs hasn't really helped.

My guess is that groundwork has been done on a Faulk+ for Kadri deal.

One thing I want the leafs to do this offseason is lock up Dermott to a long term deal. Cant think of a comparable for him right now.

They don’t have the cap space to get that done. If they want to get him locked up long term, you’re probably looking at about 4.0 per season.

Maybe Ekholms 3.75M x6 years? Ekholm was older andbetter than Dermott is currently though.

Only problem with that is Ekholm signed his contract prior to the 2016-2017 season. I bet with the new wave of these monster deals every player who's up for a contract renewal is seeing huge dollar signs.

I'd say McDavid is probably the only one I would do Matthews for...maybe Barkov+.

That aside though....I am having a hard time seeing a RHD I would do a deal for.

Carlo and Cernak were probably 2 I saw as possibilities but obviously no deal there. Maybe Joker from Chicago.

Florida wouldn't give Barkov for Mathews .
I would.

Players that are proving they can't get it done in the playoffs.

Freddie
Johnson
Kappy - love his game but he is a grt trade chip
Kadri - a tough bone head - selfish player
Gardner - way to soft
Marleau

Dubassssssss should realize we need some grit and size in our lineup

Nylander - give him another yr - hope he really gets involved next yr.
