We are learning from our mistakes, we were patient with Shattenkirk these past seasons and look – he really started to play well

PS
I think he has been better than he was given credit for.
Im not sure if shattenkirk has gotten better or if the ducks have brought in so many players that are worse that by comparison he looks alright.

Either way I think his last two seasons were at least acceptable

He certainly will be given a chance with the Sharks to make the NHL. But that is the same approach as taken by Nesterenko, refuse to sign with the team that drafted you and sign instead with a team where you have a better chance to make the line up. I guess Nesterenko is karma's way of trying to balance out our loss of Thrun.

Yep, easier for a college forward to crack the Ducks lineup than a Dman because of all the Ducks Dmen prospects.

All of our prospects are still a year or more away from the NHL. Thrun and LaCombe have years of body development as well as playing against bigger competition for longer as they're seniors. I'd say it' pretty much equal opportunity at forward and defense at the NHL level if you have talent better than what's on our roster today.

Loser move by Thrun. Good riddance. Getting a pick was the right capl

It could have been worse. Thrun could have strung us along, knowing full well he wouldn't sign with us. Then he signs with someone else and we get no pick.

The situation does suck for us because we lose a player who can help us today for a draft pick in the 2024 draft, which could be a 5-year wait on top of the the 4-year wait for Thrun. At least we got a 3rd round pick than nothing. We got a 2024 3rd round pick for Kulikov, but had to take a cap dump of McGinn for an additional two more seasons after this season. That's some value that Thrun has to get a return like that without ever playing an NHL game.

I see what you mean and somewhat agree but honestly that’s kind of what he did. Thrun could feasibly have told us way earlier than he did but waited until 1 month left of senior year to inform management of his intentions.

getting a pick for a guy who wasn't going to sign is a win. losing thrun doesn't really sting at all with the LHD in the system who are already better

Montour with the OT winner for the Panthers against the Leafs. Always sucks seeing guys we gave up on absolutely killing it on other teams.

Now has the all time best season by a Panthers defenseman. It sucks but I'm happy for him. He always seemed to be a firecracker that was just lacking the game sense to be a star player. Seems he's figured it out and then some.
