Nice interview. Interesting tidbit about how he sounds like he had plans with Murray to get his foot in the door sooner with possible on the job training w/the Ducks, but with PV coming in, that has not so much been the case... and it's more or less starting over from scratch (At least thats how I interpreted it). I miss Getz more than I thought I would... not so much his play, but his presence I think.

That was my interpretation as well. Hope they can build a good foundation so he can be an asset to the organization soon.

A new GM should be allowed to feel his way around the organization and implement his vision. A great GM would also integrate that into the parts of organization's culture that should be maintained. But It would really suck if Getzlaf went to work for another NHL team as Ferraro said (I think) when he's expressed interest in working in the Ducks organization. Getzlaf has a lot to offer the organization with his knowledge of the game, his history with the team and some of its current players, and the fans definitely would be happy with Verbeek if that happened.

On a selfish note, I'm kinda glad that the Vegas trade fell though. I would have liked to see Getzlaf win another Stanley Cup, but not with Vegas. I hate that team worse than the Kings.

One of the faults of GM Murray is he's too loyal. Sometimes, that fault is a plus. I'm glad Getz shared with us that Murray called him up to say he just couldn't go through with the Vegas trade because it didn't feel right. Getz was so happy with it too.

If miracles do happen I'd love him to get to 500, but not a chance unless there's a super serum he could take.
At this point I'm just hoping he gets as many counting stats as possible to get into the HOF.

Pears has a good argument for the HOF. Probably not first ballot but he's much better than his "comparables" in terms of raw stats. On paper he kinda looks like Owen Nolan or Ray Ferraro but he has way more hardware than guys like that, because his points really aren't because of just being a pretty good player for a long time. He was one of the top players for a good long stretch before falling off a cliff.

perry's last few seasons have really done a lot for his HOF resume. plus he's won basically every team trophy there is to win in NA hockey plus a hart. i think he's for sure getting in at some point
Yeah, I think he will eventually get in due to his whole resume. He is a unique player.

Other than his +/- you have to squint pretty hard to see the difference between this season and last season for him.
Funny that a few posters were so quick to lump him into the category of "THE DUCKS WERE HOLDING HIM BACK" after a few games where he looked better than a bottom-pairing D, and then see that as a reason to shit on management for making a mistake for letting him go.

I don't think management's approach to development and deciding which players to acquire, keep and trade is/was perfect, but I would not use f***in' Josh Mahura of all people or even Steel as an example of that.

The dogpile effect of negativity can make people say some really stupid shit.
