Briere is the new GM. He's made some pretty shred acquisitions already in the hot seat, including the Provorov deal, removing Hayes and returning actual value for TDA. He got dealt a pretty awful hand and so far he hasn't done terribly.
Jones has become president, separating the role from the GM which appears to have had quite a positive influence on the organisation as a whole, including getting buy in from the alumni. He has removed quite a dark stink that surrounded this team for the years under Fletcher. Between himself and Briere they appear to have the power to run this franchise properly without the likes of Clarke and Holmgren interfering.
Both the GM and Jones have stated multiple times we are going to be rebuilding for at least the next 2+ years. A far cry from the moron Fletcher. It's been stated that we will be sellers and this minor run were on changes nothing.
The team on the ice are performing at a standard significantly higher than last year and multiple young players are taking big leap forwards in their development. The product on the ice is actually watchable. People are excited about this team again, people are back in the stadium watching them. That doesn't mean jack shit to some of the forum dwellers on here, but it's actual vital for this team to succeed.
We aren't trading draft picks like their candy, we aren't trading them at all. We're accumulating them for the first time in a long time. We need a big push at the deadline to aquire more. We have draft capital.
The majority of players that we have brought in have been successful so far. Phoeling and Walker have been successes. Even Belpedio and Mete looked OK in their stints. We didn't go big on stupid FA signings.
We are in a position to now make moves. Ristos contract doesn't look like the Albatros it was. Atkinson is no longer a LTIR catastrophe. Couturier has returned to form.

This is something teams are combatting against, the burning of the ELC year. Drysdale himself encountered similar last season and is likely why the Ducks were so willing to include him as opposed to another future asset. We’ll see how that plays out in the future. It costs the player future earnings. Having such a high pick or regarded prospect, it’s standard-fare usually to just do it.If it came down to the ELC, that’s such a weird hill to die on to lose the prospect.
But you do do.
With Drysdale’s injury history I don’t see it as a good trade, if you do. By all means.
I’d just say don’t believe everything this org spews. Perhaps it’s not as on the “other side” as my points, but this is a trash heap, and Comcast cares most about positive PR.
Who would have been a better target in a 1-for-1 type of exchange?
They did a good job keeping things under wraps. Had this been leaked, Cutter would come off as a trouble maker and his value would have dropped. Not sure they could have held on for much longer.
I know Drysdale has the pedigree. Sounds like he has a good floor at this point as a 2-3 D. If he can rebound from injuries and progress to a 1D then we won the trade so that has to be the hope.
I thought Cutter would slow down with production but he seems to be the type to win and produce when it’s needed. I think he will be good at the NHL level but around a 25-30 goal scorer with short lifespan. I have a feeling he’s going to cause more issues in his career.
The character assassination 180 is going to be hilarious. All of a sudden all the flaws that have been pointed out the last 1.5 years will suddenly be real.
Eh, this deal is going to have much less of an impact (for both teams) than the Lindros trade. Gauthier isn't likely to be a franchise changing player nor is Drysdale. In a few years we'll either being saying we could use Gauthier on the wing or be happy we have Drysdale. Very unlikely Gauthier's absence is going to be devastating.Chuck Fletcher was the suckiest suck that ever sucked. It's like the Lindros trade butterfly effect, where we will be calculating for decades all of the tragedies that have befell the flyers since Fletcher took office.
Nope. I am a man of my word. I have said for months now that i'll start to believe that it's actually a rebuild when they trade one single player that Torts didn't feud with or wasn't an organization pariah. And when they stop stuffing the roster with Hathaway's, Deslauriers, Yandles, and Staals. It's all the same people doing the same stuff.
You're close.
Can you give me a breakdown of the moves they didn't make? If you are referring to the Laughton for a first, this was debunked pretty much immediately by St Louis but everyone seems to forget this. There was no such offer on the table. But again, that's a single move. They've also said they're in Year 2 of that three year plan, and you're ignoring all the moves they didn't make. Plus all the massive unaddressed roster gaps they apparently think they'll fix in a year without moving "core pieces" like Laughton and Seeler. And all the wretched signings.
Ristolainen and Atkinson are still absolutely debacles.

I laughed at Turris being an alumni. There’s someone drawing hilarious conclusions right now. They probably have a Flyers podcast.
So your entire reasoning for this franchise not changing, is that we haven't traded a player that Torts likes?Nope. I am a man of my word. It will be the honor of my life.I look forward to being your sworn enemy

What the hell was Briere meant to do with either Risto or Atkinson? Ones a tyre fire, the other spent the entire year on LTIR
How was Briere to generate any value from the current roster to fix those "unaddressed gaps in the roster"?
Why don't you give a real answer?McDavid.
I’m not overly concerned with Drysdale’s injuries so far since they are not LB ones. He still has his skating abilities. The more I've watched Gauthier the more worried I am about his style translating. I mean, it's wholly possible he plays this way because it works and thus he doesn't need to play another way, and thus he would change when needed. But from my own moronic and stupid evaluation, in a vacuum, I like Drysdale more.
The problem is that the guy is injured over half the time. I'll take the guy who will actually play over the dead cap hit.
Look, you want to believe so you do you but just know you're going to be mystified when the organization is in the same spot it's always been.So your entire reasoning for this franchise not changing, is that we haven't traded a player that Torts likes?
That's it? Did he actual fued with Provorov, because it's a funny way of showing it giving him 1#pp and top ice time.
I will disagree with you on this one point. And it’s the one thing I’ve liked about Briere so far… we are kind of far behind the eight ball when it comes to talent, so we need to take chances. IF they believe Drysdale is a #1 Defenseman or 70 point PPQB Dynamo #2 defenseman and IF they believe he had the highest upside of any possible return, then the injury history be damned. IF you’re “forced” to trade the guy you believed was your future 1C, you need the return to have very high upside.I don’t mind moving on from Gauthier. It’s annoying because this team so desperately needed him to hit, and I was hoping for an exciting young guy to follow. Nobody is cheering for Farabee, and York. At least I’m not.
If he chose to not be a Flyer, organizational issues aside - targeting Drysdale is asinine. I’ll eat crow on that if the time comes, but the injury history should have ruled him out.
Their thinking is predictable as always. A shitty PP, needing help on the R side, and NHL ready talent.
I don’t buy there wasn’t something better, but as always it’s the evaluation process with this team. After Ellis/Patrick… That injury history should have ruled him out.
I was just saying to my brother. Think about what the Flyers represent to a kid like Cutter.A lot of peoppe still seemingly think this is an issue with losing Gauthier(most people werent fond of the pick anyway), and they couldnt be further from the mark. It's about terrible process, and not realizing that constantly playing players like Deslauriers over giving kids ice time (cant have a kid on the 4th line!) And all these other dumb dinosaur tropes are driving them away from the new generation of players.
You can cater your audience to these bully watchers all you want, but this is the flip side of that. You have situations like this where kids with a limited career span have to maximize their earning potential (10-15 years) in a situation where they are already heavily restricted/capped on earnings for about a third of that. Keep your goons if you want, but its limiting roster space, which is limiting opportunities, especially in an organizarion who already has publicly admitted to playing vets for milestones over kids for development..
