Bowman signing, Dermott signing. I wouldn't say they are reliable.

But, honestly, the Jeff Skinner signing did seem like a panic move. It happened after Debrusk signed in Vancouver

Fair, though the Dermott one was somewhat telegraphed before, from what I recall

The Bowman signing thing I do recall them being one of the first to go on about it like it was a sure thing, so props to them there

I just don't see how DeBrusk didn't chase the money with Vancouver. He got $5.5M x 7 and I don't know if Edmonton could have or would have afforded that. I don't think it was a 'panic' move either, Skinner is a big name that is a known goal-scorer, and it sounded like they were in talks as soon as free agency opened.

For the record, I see DeBrusk taking a step back next year, everything has been going right for him and the Canucks are a lot worse than they look (which is already bad, of course). PDO is still running a bit high this season, though their true colours have been showing lately as a one-man team with Hughes out

I'll admit, I wasn't crazy about them ponying up for a local guy that seemed very overrated on the Bruins. I guess the nice thing is that f***ing dipshit father of his wouldn't be so annoying in broadcasts

I think it’s fair to criticize them for Brown and Skinner but in the same vein it’s only fair to compliment them for their hits.

Emberson has been really solid and we dumped Ceci’s contract in exchange for him. Podz has been a nice addition.

Agreed

The awkward part here for some is that the Emberson and Podz adds were Bowman clearing cap after the offersheets and bringing in good players while doing so.

How much of his play dying out was due to injury? We know that hips can really affect a player's ability to play, right? Can Klingberg be that mobile, puck moving D that can play the right side for us? He can pinch in on the PP2, and possibly the PK? Under a mil? Ok, let's see what he can bring. Similar or same surgery that Patrick Kane had, and he's doing pretty good. No harm in trying him out.

I used to think that he was really good for Dallas and then his game went into the shitter. If we sign him for cheap it'd be worth a shot.

Fabbro is a young ascending player, Klingberg is a much older declining player. I wouldn't count on this guy as anything more than a 3rd pair/2nd PP specialist and even more odd that they'd be pursuing Klingberg because he's pretty much a free asset and not offer a very low pick for the Preds who were waiving Fabbro anyway. I know there was salary considerations but $2.5m was very manageable. Oh well

Anyway, I don't like the idea of a top 4 experiment for Klingberg because there's very little upside to it with it being highly likely that he's well past done as a top 4 Dman and while the Oilers are pretty much locked in to a playoff spot they're in a dogfight for the division and possible Presidents Trophy so I don't think experimenting with a top 4 D with a guy who is a real longshot is the best of ideas.

If he's signed as depth or as a rotation guy then I'm fine with it but if this is a plug and play with Nurse I really don't like it.

I agree with this 100%, but they plug and played Josh f***ing Brown with Nurse the last few games, and he's not an NHL player, so moving to Klingberg is just an upgrade, but I do worry about if it's enough.

I still think they'll need another guy above Klingberg.

I like Klingberg's ability to shoot through a screen. Something our team needs to improve on for sure.
 
I don’t mind giving Klingberg a shot to play 6/7. He brings a different skill set than Emberson, Brown and Stetcher.

That being said, I don’t really understand what the organization plan or thought process has been.

JBrown obviously brings a different element as well. But between a 3 year deal and the analytics department it was pretty strange deal. Its buryable so not a big deal. I think hes more of an AHL call up so if Klingberg plays well and pushes him down to the AHL thats good.

I think Stetcher has been about as good as you can expect. But its clear that knoblauch or Coffey aren’t really a fan. I am guessing they want a bigger dman which is fair. Maybe concerns about what he can bring in the playoffs. Feels like JJ brought in a player that KK or PC don’t want to play. If they sign Klingberg, maybe they will keep JBrown up and waive Stetcher? I wouldn’t be surprised,

Kind thought that Emberson was supposed to be signed. Have to wonder if his contract discussion isn’t going well? Starting to wonder if hes starting to price himself out a la Kostin, Desharnais etc.

If Emberson seems to be the #6 and the team is still looking for a #4, I am just wondering if theres more going on here.

Maybe Klingberg is to push Emberson ? Or maybe its just extra depth but feels like we have a glut of #7 RD.

I know him personally, and know he is connected. I don't remember but there was one rumour that he totally got wrong and it was a doozy last fall.

I know he is in touch with Friedman and Stauffer, and has good relationships with a bunch of players. He brings kids from club hockey to morning skates all the time.

Yep. I can vouche for this too. Connected, but they still aren't as good as the top ones. But I'd trust them more than Eklund/BuzzHockey people.

I feel like Mutts also indicated that Holloway/Broberg would be signing for cheap prior to the offer sheets.

I think they definitely have some sources. I think they are pretty tight with Stauffer. But I think they have been wrong a few times as well.

I don’t think they are wrong about Klingberg though. Seems to be a few sources claiming it. I think hes also tight with Janmark etc.

I feel like sports medicine specifically has advanced leaps even in the last decade. Like Eichel had that spine surgery that was a first for NHL'ers and he looks elite. McDavid has came back in record time with multiple injuries. I feel like we see a lot less career enders overall, across all sports.

Kane isn't a D though and doesn't have to transition while skating as much as a D does.


Too much risk, stay away.
