Flyers apologize for “disrespectful remarks” by their social media team towards reporters

Hell, she should be the one apologizing for asking the same f***in question too many times.
It's a softball question that literally gets asked to all new players on every team, in every sport everywhere in the world. Have some of you never seen media availabilities with new players before? What do you expect, deep philosophical questions about the nature of our reality?

did he say that because of the reverb? if so that's f***ing hilarious and he should be getting promoted not apologizing.

reporters constantly dump on people, take quotes out of context, and criticize teams and players with impunity, but when someone's rude to them then they get so very offended. Ridiculous.

Another non-issue, and issuing an apology is a beta move - minus points for Flyers.

I’d like to know too, I mean how many times is she going to ask that question?

And since it’s such a big issue that is so important that no one has any idea what the question was, what -was- the question?

Ctfon, you’re the reporter, you’re NOT the news. DO BETTER.
News flash, this is a Garrett Hathaway intro presser, there’s no way to make it interesting.

The reporter didn’t even do anything, the PR screw-ups made themselves the news by screwing up publicly.

The team is apologizing publicly because the public saw it and it made them look like clowns.

Moving on after an apology is also a thing adults do, but some posters would rather die than apologize for public screw up for various nonsensical reasons.

It's more that it's just super unprofessional and makes the Flyers social media/PR team look a bit bush league rather than people being 'thin skinned'.

Do we even know if Philly media people are offended and threw a fit? Sounds to me like the Flyers just realized they f***ed up and apologized, which is the normal thing to do.
The amount of people who can’t understand this simple sentiment is disturbing. It’s like some people can’t WAIT to try to call someone out for being “thin-skinned” or “offended”.

Journalists are people with no talent or skills of any kind, but massive egos who think their opinions are very important.

The egos can occasionally get large, though that's much further up the totem pole than the woman asking the question here. You know, somewhere between the 1% of people with prestigious/awarded roles, or the TV doofuses who make up 0.01% of people in the field (and actually make money).

Something I always tried to relate to people back when I was reporting:

Imagine thinking this about, say, mechanics--or the car industry in general--just because one oaf at Pep Boys once overfilled your oil.

Local sports reporters aren't exactly the zenith of the profession, but even still, there's a ton of really good ones doing really good work. I probably don't understand the first goddamn thing about your job, so I'm not going to shit on everyone who does it based on the narrowest possible understanding of it.

A journalist's job is essentially to pretend that their opinions are more important than those of others' and trying to convince others to agree with them.

A mechanic's job is to get the car working.

That's not the job at all and you're doing the exact thing I was sniping at in the post you responded to.

It's like if I said "the mechanic's job is to lick my car clean and steal assorted bolts from the chassis." No, it isn't.

There's some missing context imo. Was she asking Garnet that specific question multiple times? Did Garnet not answer that question correctly so she wanted a proper answer? Is she just asking that question to every newcomer so it's always the "same ****ing question"? Are the Flyers just sick of hearing about how their team is at the bottom so they don't want these types of questions in particular because they might make the players uncomfortable trying to answer them?

Whatever the reason that could potentially make me side with one or the other, I'm sure many players/staff think the same way with reporters and just don't say it out loud, and this guy happened to have his microphone unmuted, so he was being unprofessional and very uncareful. In a sense, I don't mind the Flyers apologizing for it in this particular instance because even if they think the reporter was super annoying, I don't think it would realistically reach a level where you'd say that out loud to them lol.

My random thought on this is that we're using the word "journalist" way too loosely nowadays considering teams are giving press passes to unpaid bloggers nowadays.

A lot of this, too. People conflate unpaid bloggers or paid opinion columnists with "journalists." Which, in keeping with my mechanic analogy, is like redefining that role to include car wash employees and stunt drivers.

People get caught on hot mics saying shit they shouldn't all the time. And 99.9% of the time, it's not okay.

There is a sliver of me though that says - Philly...media/reporters...Philly Media/Reporters...I get it. Keeping tight lips in some of those situations may be one of the truest tests of restraint known to mankind.

That coming from Mollie, who attacked a player over his political beliefs, which has nothing to do with reporting about hockey. She is probably the last one who should be talking and telling people to “be better”.

Journos tend to think hey are right and everyone else is wrong.

That whole field has taken nosedive credibility wise in the last decade.

Absolutely unprofessional. If your boss asked you why you keep asking the same f***ing question you’d probably say he’s an asshole too.

Don’t think anybody is saying they’re offended by this, just disappointed by the lack of professionalism.
