Wow that's it? They didn't have to apologize for that.
I wouldn't apologize for that even if I said it to her face and this was behind her back

The world is way to soft

Never apologize publicly, only privately to the individual. Just say that the remarks don't represent your companies opinions, you will look for ways to improve company culture through training and make sure a situation like this never happens again.
And say it annoyingly repetitively

But when sports organizations tries to get involved with societal issues, it's "stick to sports."

So orgs can't be involved in societal issues, but when a team apologizes for how it handled an interview with a player, it's "who cares about this sports stuff when we have bigger things to worry about?"

I'm just wondering what you actually want sports teams to cover and do, especially in the offseason? And I'm asking you in particular since you gave a personal anecdote.
Publicly apologizing made this a bigger issue than it had to be, it’s not really more complex than that.

The only greater injustice to the hockey media than criticism of their work is an understocked buffet table.
Now THAT is funny!

It was unprofessional but it's nothing to get up in arms about IMO. Much worse things have been said on hot mics.
Not sure if it's unprofessional considering it wasn't meant to be aired publicly or if it's just a case of "the truth hurts"

Kinda like venting to our friends about wives and jobs, expecting it won't ever get back to them

Because no one would pay us.
And that is the shame of it all!

This isn't much of anything in the grand scheme of things and everyone will forget it by August.

That being said, if you screw up a basic part of your job in an extremely public way you're going to end up eating some shit for it, that's just the nature of the beast. Even more so if you have a public facing job like PR. It wouldn't have mattered if it was a journalist or just some random person. It's just business.

I am amused at the thought of someone screwing up at work and when confronted about it telling their boss "f*** you Doug, have you seen the price of bread!?!" though.

I’d like to know too, I mean how many times is she going to ask that question?

And since it’s such a big issue that is so important that no one has any idea what the question was, what -was- the question?

Ctfon, you’re the reporter, you’re NOT the news. DO BETTER.

So many white knights here. I hope she sees your posts, guys.
This post is pretty revealing. This incident is a pretty cut and dry case of a PR person f***ing up (remember that part of the job description of a PR person is to maintain good relationships with the media and strive towards creating positive PR for the team/organization they represent). But because the question was asked by a woman people are now "white knights" for thinking someone working in PR probably shouldn't do the exact opposite of their job description lol.

I've gotten fired from so many jobs lately for refusing to do my job correctly when it doesn't even matter considering the price of bread. Doesn't my former employees have anything more important to think about than what I do with the time they were paying me for? Cancel culture is insane.

"Hockey interviews are so boring."
"NOOOO Don't ask the player why he signed with a bottom team."
It’s a pretty boring exchange still, what’s he going to say?

He’ll give the right answer but realistically he signed the best $ contract he could get likely, at least close enough to Washington. Idk of his family fully moved to Boston but the only thing not boring about the question was the Flyers PR persons response lol.

Well, was expecting something much worse.

But even then, this guy is likely fired already. As a PR guy you have one job... he failed miserably here.

This doesn't seem like that big a deal. Unprofessional sure, but if she is asking that same question enough for their to be angst to it, maybe she is asking the question too many times. Anyhow, not a big deal, regardless.

Could say it’s unprofessional as his job now requires zoom or zoom-like apps and he should figure out how to mute himself lol.

And I agree about accidentally getting caught vs being blatantly rude to someone’s face, but she’s a public figure and it’s still embarrassing, and it is an avoidable situation he created by being bad at part of his job. I don’t think an apology is unwarranted

Not to say I think an entire team press release was warranted, more like him privately calling her to apologize and explaining he was just frustrated (a call that may have happened based on their release). But I guess maybe the team saw the fans who did notice commenting online and panicked or something.
