It's the whole refusal to do rentals that I find egregious. I get why folks don't like them, but how many chances do you really have to win Cup? They had team this year that could have done it with a bit more help. Given they had cap space, good farm system, and pretty much all their picks, what is rationale for not dealing for that help? Do you think Vegas regrets trading maybe their top prospect for Barbie? Do you think Dallas regrets dealing a 2nd for Domi? There were guys they could have picked up that would have cost far less than Timo that could have tipped this series. They were swept, but 2 games were OT and tonight was basically OT. This loss is on their front office.
It backfired badly for the Rangers. Sometime it’s also better to not break what works

I posted in the Canes boards, I wonder what would’ve happened if the Lomberg goal in OT1 in Game 1 hadn’t been called off. Certainly would’ve been a less demoralization loss for the Canes and a less energizing, confidence inducing win for the Panthers. Silly thing to think about. I’m sure the Panthers would’ve still won the series, but maybe not a sweep lol. Felt like that 4OT win set the tone for the rest of the series.
Yup, momentum is a crazy thing in the playoffs.

I get you. Just being comprehensive. Not sure they could match Hubey and Weegs+.

Yup. We were in and around the trade up until y’all dropped the biggest pile of chips down. Not really an equivalent player to Huberdeau we could’ve sent.

From reports, we also came second to NJ for Meier. Apparently Waddell was visibly pissed off once it all went down, rumors that he felt Grier did his buddies in NJ a favor instead of taking what he felt was a more competitive offer from Carolina.

Either way, the two teams in the East that didn’t load up at the deadline were the last two standing at the end of the day. Easy to say you should’ve done more the day you get kicked out. Harder to know exactly what would’ve happened had you loaded up. Certainly happier than, say, the Rangers or the Bruins right now.

Remember when I said Carolina wasn't that good they just hadn't played any good teams yet these playoffs?

Only in Toronto lol. Carolina finished 2nd in the league in the standings, which earned them the path they got. And Carolina beat the 3rd best team in the league in 5 games to get to the conference finals. All of this without 2 of their 3 best scorers, and their best defenseman going down. Carolina's a team of depth, unlike some unnamed top-heavy teams. You take any team's 2nd and 3rd best scorers off their roster in these playoffs, they probably won't look that good or probably even win a round, much less make a conference final. My question to you is, if Carolina's not that good, who is?

Vegas is already in so deep that they really have no choice but to just continue to bet the farm and go for it, they have pretty much nothing for the future (Zach Dean wasn’t going to save them). At least Carolina has a young core that has a long future. With that said, I agree, at some point you have to take risks.

Florida also barely managed 20 shots in most of these games

Carolina is that way. They play suffocating hockey and take a lot of bad shots and lack offensive talent.

Carolina had 293 expected goals for in 82 regular season games this year but in reality only scored 262. That tells me something about expected goals doesn't work when applied to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Same story in the playoffs, 43 goals for but 51 expected goals for.

Hockey could truly be crazy sometimes: a team that miraculously got in, thanks to a win by a lottery team, goes to the Stanley Cup finals with a 11-1 run :D

Not like they lost some shootout skills competition. Florida outscored Carolina 10-6 in the series. They scored 67% more goals than Carolina that ain't close.
In context it's very close

In 1960 the Yankees outscored the Pirates FIFTY FIVE to TWENTY SEVEN

Pirates won series 4-3. Was that series close? The losing team outscored their opponents by 101 percent

Y'all still have a bright future. Just hope management doesn't panic

Why would TNT show a tweet from someone named Luke DeCock slagging Slavin in their post game while Biz is talking about how hard they worked lmao

Matt T's expression is interesting (TNT interview). Is it socially awkward, lack of articulation, anxiety, mildly Autistic? I am not coming from a labelling POV, just interested.

Florida has it. They really do.

That tells me the Pirates spent a lot of time sucking and the overall play favoured the Yankees a lot. Not the case in this series.
