I think the best, simplest, and least expensive solution probably involves coloring the ice of the goal line between the pipes. If the goal line itself can be seen on top of the ice (rather than well under the ice) that would help significantly with camera analysis.

I mean, you could theoretically use infrared lasers positioned under the ice (yes, I know how stupid this sounds), but that would be outrageously expensive and probably wouldn't even work very well. It's actually not nearly as simple as 'putting a chip in the puck.'
Wait, do you mean a puck viewed on an angle, that could look to be over the goal line, might in fact NOT be over the goal line with an overhead view??? There is a word for that you know, and a couple of people mentioned that. One even posted a video if an example of it.

Nahhhhh, science doesn’t work like that. It’s the Leafs we are talking about. The league and officials hate them, remember?

You wouldn’t be able to color the ice red because you would need to create a goal line chamber from side board to side board, and fill it with red colored water, and freeze it separately from the rest of the ice. Then what happens from the ice in the goal crease being shaved by players skates? It would create almost like a wall that would stop a sliding puck. Imagine how much bitching we would hear from Leafs fans then!

I was thinking something like IR or x-ray sensors in the goal net bars itself, or under the ice. But how? I do think the NHL needs to look into this though, they need some type of VAR system.

Marner and Matthews should be more like Yzerman. Leads his team to cup and is big playoff performer. Only thing is he did for 1st time over the age 30. Wasn't very noticeable before that either. On a side note i hate the leafs. If you trade marner send him to wpg.

Yzerman could still generate points like crazy in the playoffs before he reinvented his game. He turned into an elite two way centre that backchecked like a mother f***er while still generating offense and making all sorts of clutch plays.

Marner and Matthews haven't even sniffed the caliber of play Yzerman delivered before he decided to focus on defense, nevermind after.

So it's the ref fault if the Leafs lost 4 game out of 5 ?!

Same excuse it's been the past what, 6 or 7 years?

Leafs reddit going batshit crazy over this. I guess they forgot that this isn't a gentleman's game and players celebrate emphatically right next to their opponents, and in the faces of fans alike. Emotions run VERY high, especially when you're coming into series after series being made the underdog. I mean, this shit is nothing compared to what the players chirp at each other, but you're getting your jimmies rustled because one player had a moment of uncontrollable emotion after a series winning goal?

Give me a break Leafs nation. Did it makes you extra angry that these players shook hands after everything was said and done too?

Out of all the fanbases of teams that have exited the playoffs this year, Leafs fans seem to be taking the L in the most pathetic ways possible. They're never humbled. It's really a spectacle to see.

Agreed, I mean it’s not a good look for a still moment in time but when you watch it in real time it’s really not that big of a deal. Also though we have absolutely no clue what conversation was going on between these guys all game and series.

It was called and The Panthers lost the game anyway.

Say the stick-grab is called and The Panthers still win in OT, are we then crying about the "icing" call instead, or whether or not Brodie or Barkov touched the puck before it went over the glass? It was a moment in the game nothing more, just like the puck going over the glass in OT of game 5 that gave The Panthers a PP that they couldn't cash in on...a moment, nothing more.

Bottom line is that one team got better(timely) goaltending when it mattered and made the most of their opportunities, another team did not. The fact that a missed penalty in the OT...whether it led to a goal or not...was just another moment/opportunity that one team took advantage of(sense a theme?) and the other did not very consistently.

End result is: It's over, see you next year.

Thanks I didn’t know what the end result was

I've seen plenty of in the crease cellys and most players just skate it off and continue living their life.

For all the shit that Gudas is getting I wish he could've hugged the goalie and whispered in his ear with a hot mic, "There, there buddy. It's all over now. No more pain."

The still pic (perfectly timed, brilliant pic!) makes it look like he stood there and taunted him. From what I remember from highlights of the goal, it was a very brief encounter

Doubtful, I can't stand TO but watching Matthews something wasn't right with him, his shot looked like a muffin, I would be shocked if he wasn't injured.
He's looked off the whole year imo. If this is what he is now after the wrist and other injuries, then the team that pays him what, $13M is going to regret it very fast.

You forgot "Grab stick. Grab stick so defender can't poke check."

I don't necessarily think this is what he will be going forward, but yes he was injured and you could see his hand in a brace after the series ended.

I know it's the popular thing to go off about how much of a ghost Matthews is in the playoffs but we definitely don't win against Tampa without him and he was also on a 12 game point streak going back to last years playoffs before hurting his hand again in game 3, which is where the point streak ended and he didn't record another point.

Leaf fans are not claiming they lost round 2 because of the refs (I am sure there are some crazies out there). The reffing was really bad in round 1. It felt like they were out to get us, it was much better in round 2, in terms of fairness, even though there were a ton of called missed both ways.

I think FLA got away with some dirty play, and TOR was probably afraid they would get 2 min if they tried the same thing. At least it didn't feel like the refs were out to get us in Rd 2. We complain maybe about certain plays that were dangerous that resulted in an injury to our players, etc. But these Leaf haters trolling on the main boards that we did, don't even reply when you call lies on their BS.
Toronto did not fight back because of this....Toronto has never fought back during the Dubas era. Its not in their DNA. Not a mean bone in their bodies.

Leafs had a better regular season yes and beat them in the playoffs, but the Tampa core is much better and their collective playoffs record proves it.

Due to the cap, Lightning have had numerous casualties over the past couple years that have slowed them somewhat. Leafs were definitely a much deeper team top to bottom, but Given the chance most would and should take that Tampa core over the leafs.

The Tampa core was drastically outscored and outplayed 2 series in a row against Toronto's core. Go look at the stats of the two series between Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander and Rielly vs. Stamkos, Point, Kucherov, Cirelli and Hedman, it wasn't even close.

Look, from how Marner and Matthews talk to the media, it wouldn't surprise me if he had his hand in a brace just to escape some criticism. That's just what he and Marner appear to me, members of a boys club. That's just my Ducks fan opinion, worth nothing like others.

I hope they at least bring in a coach that will not tolerate their diva bullshit, if nothing else is done by Dubas (or his successor).

Kadri got suspended for 5-1/2 playoff games for fighting back. Matthews got two season games for fighting back. The league's been pretty clear over the years that some animals are more equal than others.

Heck just last series Bunting got suspended 3 games for a similar play that happened to Marner with 10 seconds left in the series against Florida, right infront of the ref and no one cared. The main difference being Bunting wasn't even facing Cernak when he made the hit whereas Staal was directly facing Marner and clearly tried to elbow his head.

Some animals aren't repeat suspension offenders that love targeting heads. Matthews must've learned something from Kadri after that cross-check to the side of Dahlin's head. I mean, there's ways to fight back and there's stupid idiot ways to fight back. Choose your poison.

That and cernak got knocked out and his absence was a big reason why the leafs even made it past the first round.
