Guy in his draft +1 year is not starting as the number 2 center on any team in the league. Especially on 1 that thinks they can go on a deep playoff run. If this team is banking on lundell as their number 2 they're in for a world of hurt.
Good, because we aren't counting on him to be our 2c since we have bennett, and if need be, reinhart

You’re making zero sense. You can copy and paste whatever you want, Florida is not Toronto, and Q and Zito are definitely not Keefe and Dubas. You think Zito signed him so Q can play him in our top six? Like they didn’t notice his play last season.

And Thornton didn’t break up your two Toronto tandems, he played alongside them. Who is he going to replace in our top six? He will be a interchangeable bottom six forward for us, and bring the leadership in the locker room.

He's going to be in your top 6. This is what leaf fans were saying last year. It happened and it will happen.

You make it sound like FLA signed him, but they don't really want him.

He's not going to be in our top 6. We have such options for those spots it's not even funny.

No one with 1104 career assists.

He's going to be a big part of your team.

He's not going to be a small part of your team.

Why did they sign him then? To be a PK specialist? No way.

And? Our coaching staff and management arent stupid enough to miss what the Leafs did wrong with him last season. Just because your coaching staff/management werent smart enough to figure out how to utilize him, doesnt mean it will happen elsewhere. Just dumb logic, and shows your misinformation about the Panthers. He isnt going to replace anyone in our top 6, those lines are already cemented. He will get occasional bottom six time, as well as occasional time on PP2. Let me guess, Im wrong about that too, and he is going to get significant PP1 time?

Dumb logic is when you think that no one will get injured. That no one will struggle. Dumb logic is also when you sign a player of his stature, but feel you have no use for him.

Bringing in a guy who’s never won a cup and been a part of some teams known as notorious chokers is not bringing in a “winning mentor”. That’s what we’re talking about, not his individual accolades but a guy who’s been a part of many playoff failures, as recent as last year.

Many of us just don’t see what he brings to the table. He’s a liability on the ice and is only going to be even slower this year.
That’s just a stupid false narrative people keep repeating. The best Sharks team, and only one worthy of a cup went to the finals and he was at a ppg to get there.

Now you want to change the meaning of the original statement to ‘team awards’ since the first time it was wildly inaccurate.

Short of some serious injuries during the year, he won't see more than spot duty in the Top 6 and some special teams play. He's insurance and a mentor for Lundell (who's penciled in at the 3C). Panthers Top 6 (barring injury of course) will likely be:

Verhaeghe-Barkov-Reinhart

And if need be, Heponiemi or Luostarinen. And if need be, Acciari. And if need be, Verhaeghe or Huberdeau.
The team has oodles of center-capable players who can slot the 2C position if things fall apart with Bennett and absolutely aren't imagining Thornton as anything more than a token piece or a cherry on top (even if they’re totally wrong with him being a cherry).

He played 4th line center for team Canada and was very effective in that role then. Obviously that was a long time ago, but as a player he is probably even more suitable for that role now. I think he just wants to win the cup. Panthers are one of the contenders next season and Florida is not a bad place to live in. It is a Good deal for both sides.

Fortunately we aren’t banking at him for 2C ;) Heck you ignored Reinhart as well!

I feel there is a weird Florida envy in this thread: Bennett was above point per game for us and showed ridiculous chemistry with Huby; he followed it up with a great playoff.

Lundell and Thornton literally are the fourth and fifth best center on the team right now if we played everyone at their natural position

Yeah the Florida hate is really weird lol. We’re a team that hasn’t accomplished much of anything that is finally turning that corner and people are all pissy about it. Weird.

It’s almost pathological: there’s reasons to doubt Florida but I don’t think attacking them 2C position is it. Bash us for a weaker top four and well having Knight as our starting goalie for 1-11th the salary of Bob

I’ll be surprised if he plays more than 50 games. He talked to Q, Luongo and Quenneville prior to signing, I guarantee they’ve already had that discussion.

If you think he’s getting top 6 minutes on this team, you’re crazy. He’ll be an 8-12 min per night guy and maybe get some PP2 time. Only way that changes is if they have significant injury problems.
