Did I miss something? Has their guilt already been proven?
I'm shocked how easy it is for everyone to call these guys rapists even before a court decision. I hope your son doesn’t end up in a situation where he has sex with a girl and then she reports rape and the whole world points a finger at him and calls him rapist.
Is there usually a multi-million dollar payout when no crime has been committed?

At the very worst case scenario, these guys are violent rapists. At the very best case scenario, they’re guys who participated in a degrading gang bang involving four other guys and a woman. There are many nhl players who are so pious that they are against some acts. How would they feel about having to play with the players in the best case scenario?

I think these guys are radioactive forever regardless of verdict. Something heinous enough to pay $3.55 million in hush money happened, even if not convicted that stench will remain

So, you would convict on that?
I'm not talking about conviction, I'm talking about the event in question happening. I don't think the majority of sexual assaults result in convictions. Whether there's enough evidence to convict or not, do you really think Hockey Canada pays this girl several million dollars if something despicable didn't happen?

Based on what E.M. said and the text messages released between E.M. and player 1 it seems like almost a sure thing that the other players were invited into the room without E.M. knowing in advance. There's a reason why the players entered the room without getting permission first. They thought that E.M. might not be ok with it so they preferred to just enter and try to pressure her into group sex. This is predatory behavior. Regardless of what you think may or may not have happened next, the fact that the players entered the room while E.M. and player 1 were having sex without her consent shows that they had bad intentions.

Man for whoever needs to hear this (clearly one poster) - if you get a whole pile of no’s followed by a woman just giving up and relenting because you have pestered her into submission and she’s worried about what you’ll escalate to if she doesn’t give in - that is NOT seduction…
It’s like the boat episode of It’s Always Sunny. “No no she will have sex with me because of the implication.

Innocent until proven guilty... but still I think their careers are done. It's perhaps not fair but so goes life in the public eye

You'll never get the fans to be fair.

The players will get whatever money they are owed currently, if they are innocent.

Even if no crime has been committed this causes great reputational damage. That’s what we are seeing now even before the verdict is made. What we are sure of at the moment is that there was group sex. But we don’t know whether it was consensual or whether it was rape. But what we are sure of is that the careers of 5 players have already been destroyed, regardless of whether their guilt will be proven or not. And Hockey Canada's reputation has already suffered. From this we can conclude that having a group sex is already a crime. But that's not true.

I've also had this thought in the thread when posters were saying "oh so now we're going to say they were going to beat her with golf clubs if she said no?" No, I don't think they would have. But also she wouldn't say no. Because of the implication.

This guy will get roughed up in court. Must be high up the food chain in the hockey world.
PIMP like description. Curious what is payday angle was going to be.

READ. THE. ARTICLES. Her parents found her shaking uncontrollably in the shower at 5am that morning and immediately contacted the authorities and Hockey Canada. Her first "consent" video includes a player saying "say it" in the background as she wipes tears from her eyes. Both of the "consent" videos were taken after the incidents had already occurred. Hockey Canada leaked her identity to the players so that they could pressure her to make it all go away. There's lots of verifiable info out there that casts their actions in a hell of a lot worse light than you're making it seem.

Completely agree that it is predatory and disgusting behaviour, but will the court consider that to be rape if E.M gave consent while under pressure and under the influence ? It’s definitely on the prosecution to prove without a doubt that she was in fact raped. It’s so hard to get convictions from these types of cases.

personally, the thought of these guys even engaging in group sex doesn’t sit right with me and the predatory behaviour that u r mentioning is even more disturbing considering many kids and families watch and admire NHL players growing up.

Innocent until proven guilty tho. A gut feeling tells me that if found guilty, the players won’t suffer as many or excruciating repercussions as we all think. I feel for the girl because even if the players are found innocent, it was not an enjoyable sexual experience for her and I wouldn’t want that for everyone.

We know more though?
We know the event happened, pretty much exactly as she said it did. The argument is if there was “consent or not”.
We know they went out of their way to film her AFTER saying it was consensual. We know she very quickly went to the police after the event. We know that the video isn’t new to anyone in the situation.
We know that what Hockey Canada found was enough to pay her out and make her sign an NDA to cover it up.

There is more in the public to make a very educated opinion on this than almost any other case like this.

And f*** Hockey Canadas reputation. They tried to cover it up.
