As an example of public opinion being biased using facebook, 0 issues discussing this case but discussing a much worse case in England where Islamic migrants raped a pre teen gets you labeled an Islamaphobe or racist.
However recognizing media bias doesn't mean support for these guys, it just means you understand why the articles will be presented in the way they are
Wild speculation with no grounding in facts. "People are saying..." yada yada yada. Come back when you have a real issue to discuss. Until then, maybe read up on what is actually KNOWN about this case and then try again.

Makes sense - I just assumed it would be non-valid, as if you're asked to tell the truth by the crown, then obeying that nda and not telling the truth like required by the NDA is now a contract term that isn't legal and would thus be unenforceable.

I guess functionally it's the same either way.
Considering Hockey Canada is a government-backed organization, the optics of them going after her NDA at this point would be horrific, and manage to make them look worse than they currently do. The public opinion of this case is already strongly against Hockey Canada, I doubt they want to throw a match at a pile of gasoline by taking her to civil court. It wasn't the players who paid her.

The thread already smells like someone boiling kimchi in the tank of an outhouse on the backend of a stadium. Take the hint.
Should how it smells around here really be a surprise?

Just a question. If it was consensual. Do they sue the girl back?

Again from what I read and what I’ve interpreted is. The victim did not say yes, but also did not say no. The alleged assaultants came in without her knowledge and started performing acts on her. You have to think in that moment she was paralyzed with fear or maybe even unable to process what had just happened

did you mean to quote me?

I only read one article so I missed this part.

Hopefully they turn on players 6-8.

We have civil court for incedents where guilt and innocents isn't black and white its crazy this became a criminal case but obviously that just means they are likely to be guilty. I also think there should be an option for them to plead to lesser charges since all that time has passed and the victim received a ton of money from Hockey Canada.

Time for journalists to dig in and see if there's more stories about these players from their junior or NHL days.

The thing about (alleged) rapists is its often not a one time thing. Especially with the way it was orchestrated with getting her to film "consent" after and whatnot. Does not seem like their first rodeo

Ever since since Trever Bauer was setup I will hold judgement till I hear the facts.
The fact they gave hush money doesn't equate to rape,
The world we live in today with guilt automatically assumed and the death of innocent until proven otherwise, paying someone off is easier than going public.

And I'm sorry if this sounds insensitive but doesn't the fact that she pursued money over getting justice and keeping these guys from doing it to another girl, at the very least paint her in a questionable light?

Seems to me I'd want them punished so no other girl would get assaulted.
Why don't you read up on the facts then? There's lots of them out there. Let's just say it doesn't look good.

None of the five of them have to say a damn thing. Presumption of innocence, right to silence, both guaranteed in the Charter.

Depending on how deep anyone wants to go, this is all covred in R v W. (D.) [1991] 1 SCR 742
Police/Prosecutor: “You could be facing significant jail time. Want to talk about what happened and maybe help yourself out?”

Player: “I don’t have to say a damn thing as per R v.W (D.) [1991] 1 SCR 742”

Police/Prosecutor: “That’s entirely true. Question still stands. Care to talk a bit?”

Some clarification:

The players involved were all from the 2018 world junior team.

EM's statement of claim indicated 8, but she was under the influence of alcohol and that number has never been corroborated.

We do know for a fact that 7 players from that 2018 world junior team were involved to the extent they all got lawyered up by July 2022.

By October 2022 London Police were recommending charges against 5 of them.

So 2 members of that 2018 world junior team were involved to the extent they decided to lawyer up by July 2022, but will not be charged. The most likely reason being they saw things were going south and got the hell out of there.

From the Globe and Mail in July 2022:

The text messages, sent a little more than a day after the sexual encounter, were shown to The Globe and Mail by lawyers for seven unnamed members of Canada’s 2018 world junior hockey team. The team has been at the centre of allegations surrounding a multimillion-dollar lawsuit that was settled by Hockey Canada in May for an undisclosed sum. The matter is now under investigation by Hockey Canada, the National Hockey League and Parliament.
So go ahead, speculate on the other 2 players from the 2018 world junior team. Or just figure it out from reports elsewhere. Just don't do it in this forum.

If Dube was really dealing with mental illness.. he had a few years to take a mental leave of absence ... but instead, he chose to do so only a few days before he knew he was going to get arrested? That just doesn't sit right with me.

Yeah, he dipped and he knew it was coming.

Now, if the Flames organization knew about it and just used the mental illness excuse for a cover up then that’s where they should be called out.

However, to start flirting, you are obliged to practice kino sexuality to increase sexual tension and obtain sexual intercourse. This can easily backfire on you.

There is a negotiation phase with the woman which requires a certain skill.

I won't go into detail but I have gotten group sex from women who were hesitant. It took skill to obtain consent.

For some reason I assumed all the players would be in random leagues. That they are NHLers upsets me more for some reason and I am not sure why. It seems dumb and I can't put my finger on it. Maybe just that they had everything going their way and they chose to treat someone like this.

That's where the NHLPA would get involved, and the NHL isn't going to chance having that grievance get in front of an arbitrator and losing over someone merely being charged.
Hasn't other players been brought up on sexual assault charges .

I'll reply to this once since its bumming me out too much, the whole thing is just gross, sad old narrative with young privilege, vulnerability, and maturity for both sides. Knowing the alure of high societal stars can drag you into a dangerous settings, and the plaintiff deserved zero of whatever the next events that took place. Bad people take advantage of good and bad people, just hope suitable justice is found, and we can all stop this insanity. Stop puck chasing, stop being disgusting pigs, boys and girls alike.
