Five members from Canada’s 2018 world junior team (Hart, McLeod, Dube, Foote and Formenton) told to surrender to police, facing sexual assault charges

This will be very interesting follow from a legal interest standpoint, it’s like the olympics. Rarely do you see the kind of high priced legal talent likely to be involved come together in one situation. The crown is going to have their hands full and hopefully for their sake, the London police has carried out an airtight investigation because if there was even one mistake made these guys will find it. I expect extremely thorough and vigorous defenses.

I feel for the victim though, while there will surely be publication bans, her testimony will be crucial for prosecutors and with that comes the defenses right to cross examination and that will be uncomfortable to say the least.

If the allegations being talked about are true, this is some vile behavior that will merit whatever severe punishment it brings. This is coming from someone who acted like a donkey at that age and was frequently way too drunk. It suggests the alleged perpetrators lack empathy and impulse control to a frightening degree.

Hockey culture can be so gross sometimes.

i came in here with the intention of posting throw-away snark like "can't wait for one of their fathers to come in and make a public plea to not let the life of their good boy to be ruined over one bad decision they made" because as stupid as that sounds, it's been done numerous times. It's even a little understandable coming from a parent who has just seen their hopes and dreams for their kid crushed--but there are people in this thread who have said roughly the same thing, which is very very disheartening.

Guilty or not, it's fascinating how many NHL players (and coaches) have been involved in these types of embarrassing sex cases in just the past 10 years. It seems like it's at least one new guy every year. I work in an organization with more employees by far, and to my knowledge no one has ever been dragged away on sexual assault or rape allegations. Does pro hockey just attract more creeps than average?

For some reason I assumed all the players would be in random leagues. That they are NHLers upsets me more for some reason and I am not sure why. It seems dumb and I can't put my finger on it. Maybe just that they had everything going their way and they chose to treat someone like this.
They were on the Canada WJC team. Most of them were in the NHL. By random chance you would have to pick the 5 most obscure players on the team 5 years later to have them be players in an obscure league. There are only 3 players on the team whose rights aren't currently held by an NHL team, and every player had their name called in the draft.

I heard that that rapist Brock Turner doesn't even enjoy eating steak anymore. Unlucky.

I think we know the LPS investigation was NOT "airtight" since they closed their file back in 2018, and only re-opened it much more recently. That is not how these things are supposed to happen.

Whether that's enough to sink the case - we shall see.

Ok, I am dumb. Thanks.

Considering Hockey Canada is a government-backed organization, the optics of them going after her NDA at this point would be horrific, and manage to make them look worse than they currently do. The public opinion of this case is already strongly against Hockey Canada, I doubt they want to throw a match at a pile of gasoline by taking her to civil court. It wasn't the players who paid her.
That's not how NDAs work in Canada. An Nda cannot prevent someone from making a criminal complaint (because it violates the basic premise of contract).

This is not gang rape but sexual assault.

It could have happened to me. When I was 20, a student, I tried very daring things to have sex.

The line between successful seduction and sexual assault can be extremely light.
I don’t know differences between Canadian vs US rape laws.

drunk sex could be rape in US but not in Canada because therr was some fault on her part drinking. Another situation was both were dating and drank some , thry had sex, she recalls nothing of it, there is no evidence of drugging…this could be rape in thr US, but not in Canada. As a result only sex assault charges could occur.

if this was just one player, thry met at a bar, hit it off, had sex, he left her, she got pissed, so she claims assult is possible to happento anyone. In thr US you can go through all the for play and get naked but right before she says stop…then it’s rape.

the fact five are charged says something else happened. I don’t know the direct evidence and Canada law on rape.

I actually experienced this kind of scene. I share my experience. But for me it went well.

I don't see why I should be punished for having group sex.
You were part of a group of guys who just walked in, uninvited, on a girl you'd never met before. And then she was like "let's do it!" And you guys had totally consensual group sex? That's how it went down? You don't think she might have felt a bit intimidated? Even if that is how it went down, you don't think that maybe the average person would feel intimidated, and maybe scared shitless? You don't think you've introduced a power differential that places that person in an unfair and potentially coercive situation? You don't seem to understand what actually happened in this case, nor do you seem to comprehend that, if what you did was the same as what is described here, you created a frightening environment with complete disregard for the woman you propositioned. Do you like scaring people? Do you care at all?

Did you just make that up? Nowhere in the reports it said that.

Also, your posts come across weird/creepy as f***.
That's a girl or a gay guy, I'm pretty sure. They are saying that they tried daring things and slept with husbands.

I'm not sure if they're making up that circumstance you highlighted. Who knows. It will come out in court.

Did I miss something? Has their guilt already been proven?
I'm shocked how easy it is for everyone to call these guys rapists even before a court decision. I hope your son doesn’t end up in a situation where he has sex with a girl and then she reports rape and the whole world points a finger at him and calls him rapist.

Will never happen. Son grew up with morals. Especially after being cut from a HC sanctioned team
