Haha they didn’t even mention advanced stats once in episode 1, fact is it has little bearing on coaches decisions or how teams perceive players. It’s a way for people who don’t know how to discuss hockey or players to try and trump and argument.

I haven't seen the show yet, but I would posit that showing a group of analysts pouring over spreadsheets would not be compelling television for Amazon.

Just watched the first episode and was surprised at how poor it was. About half of it was filler: establishing shots, stop-start video, random fans, "coming soon", and a pointless digression to Arizona. What they did show was only slightly more edgy than your typical post-game interview. I watched every game last season and so far I've learned next to nothing I didn't already know, in fact it seems a bit of a whitewash if anything.

Does it get any better?
not really , pretty much just a fluff piece

It’s was fine series. I expected more but overall it was fine.

oh yeah, did they forget about Brodie or something?I swear I never saw clip about him even though they did a clip with every newcomer.

Maybe I missed it but where was the scene when dubas says “ I’m losing my patience with this team” from the trailer?

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned that Brodie and Rielly did not want to be filmed much, they preferred to maintain their privacy.

From the tiny bits I saw though - it looks like Rielly is easily the biggest leader presence on the team outside of Tavares.

that potty mouth.

those poor kids who had to hear that.

i hope they'll be ok.

Great response. Has nothing to do with anyone's kids or ears. The amount he swears just ruins his speeches in my opinion.

Edited down to one paragraph so it's easy for Canadian Finn to understand and difficult to manipulate to his/her agenda.

Not a fluff piece.

If so, they forgot to edit out about 75 f-bombs per episode, Sheldon going to Dubas over Matthews' post game interview and the coach clearly getting intel on the room from Spezza and asking him to speak out on his behalf.

And that's just episode 1. I get that MLSE had some creative control and I was skeptical but the doc team clearly got enough rope to show it's not all hugs and kisses and family-friendly banter in a pro hockey team locker room.

ones ability to lead is not dictated by their use of curse words.
Demeanour has plenty of impact. His job is to motivate the talent he has at hand. The more he swears and his voice cracks the more “the kids” tune him out. End of the day, he has in his core, 4 of the best forwards in the world (as will be shown in this years Olympics). If he is going to sound like a shrill low rent version of Bruce Boudreau it better produce results.

I actually feel a bit bad for Freddy but it's pretty clear any injury had was all in his head. They're not really sugar-coating it.

The two bits that got to me emotionally in the series were watching Freddy slowly fade away and seeing his confidence just die game by game right before our eyes, and seeing how hard Jack took the game 7 loss.

As a goalie I've been in both situations and it really hit home.

some kids just can't be motivated.

This is far from a fluff piece and everything is nice and rainbow.
If anything, it clearly shows Keefe and Dubas noticed problems on the team.
Jumbo might not be the right choice as he seemed to joke around too much but Foligno showed his leadership and it is something that sorely lacked in the room.

AM seemed to want to strive to be the best player in the league and got piss about losing to McD. I like that fire in him but at the same tine I hope he understands that Cup Wins is the true measure of greatness and not scoring titles.

I think it had more to do with finding excuses for themselves. For example, it was goalkeeping that failed them against BJs and now it was JT injuries plus goaltending and some even suggested the fans were reasons why they put pressure on themselves….
They-everyone need to look at themselves and honestly admit that whatever they gave just not enough. I think it was Spezza in the last esp that said something like we needed to do more.
To me that’s something the boys need to know and understand, they need to do more just to win a round. They need to do a lot more if they want to win the Cup. If they continue to believe it is luck or goaltending or inner Demons….then we need other players to bring home the Cup bc there are two things that define winner, no excuse and always come back stronger after defeat.

I just finished. That last episode is rough, but I’m glad I watched it all through. Enjoyed it for the most part. I genuinely still like most of the guys on this team, as well as Dubas and Keefe and seeing the behind the scenes is always a treat. Hopefully this year the guys can get over the hump

I noticed a few things in the series that indicate Matthews is a very competitive guy.

I am only a few episodes in but so far it is constantly focusing on Keefe and Dubas almost desperately begging the team to work harder and care more. This might be edited to focus on this though because of the outcome. Keefe seems like a hard ass and the players don't seem to fond of him. Makes me wonder if the players miss Babcock haha.

Babcock was 10x worse to play for.

He's a triple gold coach, but he was too abrasive for the young core.
