Several people seem to be of the position that the core can't change how they approach the game/playoffs. I'm offering an alternative opinion on the matter. Now if you don't see the relevancy of Nylanders evolution to that issue so be it...

ok. Let’s agree that it is an opinion on the future that hasn’t happened yet.

That there was no film crew present during those scenes. Doesn't mean people weren't watching what they were saying, but likely created an atmosphere of discussion where those present may be more inclined to just speak their mind

There were editors. And contracts with MLSE. And lawyers.

I’d be more interested in recordings that didn’t make it to publication.

Pretty sure everyone knew there were cameras/mics recording, so how "real" was it? It was essentially scripted.
The Leafs were in on the production, if people don’t think it was skewed to make our brass look good, I don’t even know what to say. A peek behind the veil for sure, but an edited one with a soft lens. As long as you watch it with a slightly critical eye, it’s fine.

After watching All or Nothing, I have a new respect for Keefe. I felt he did more than enough, and put his players in positive situations (in general) to have success.

This is not meant to be an attack, but what specifically did you see that led you to feel that way?

Remember 24/7 series, people were raving about Babcock, it doesn’t mean anything. All NHL coaches have jam, hold players to account, it’s their freaking job. I guess people had a pretty low bar for Keefe, all I saw was basics, yell, inspire, talk to, etc.

“Babcock, for his part, comes across as articulate, smart and scowlingly intense. The cameras follow him on brooding jogging laps around the Joe Louis concourse—complete with slouchy dad sweat socks—as he plots how to return his team to greatness” '24/7' Ep. 1: Carlyle, Babcock emerge as stars - Sportsnet.ca. So impressive ;)

For me it was that he saw even though we were first that this shit wouldn't fly in the playoffs. And the fact that he went to spezz to get his msg across a bit showed tact.

Also f*** thornton. Old f*** hasn't won shit and now we know why.

A few things stood out to me. His ability to identify the defencies in the team very early in the season... and voice them to the rest of management. It seemed to me, the management team had a very good open setting where each of them could share comments and thoughts, not without pushback, but knowing they would be heard allows for a very productive work environment.

Based on the defencies he identified, he voiced those with the players (in a group and individually as required) and tried to emphasize the importance of adjusting and playing a certain way to achieve ultimate success. They never got there, but were damn close imo.

He is in no way a push over. He will challenge each of his players in the way he sees necessary, rather than a one size fits all. That being said, he is a no bullshit coach and that doesn't work for all players, especially players who are not honest with themselves (see Vesey). But those who are honest with themselves, are always able to receive comments/input/criticisems from others.

He has the respect of his team... that speach in the game 6 OT intermission, and the way the team responded with their play gave me chills... they heard it, they felt it and they exectuted... minus the actual goal. They were done in by idiocy twice. The fact the players played the way they did after that passioante speach was telling to me on where he stands with his players. There is respect (or is it respec) there. The way they played in Game 7 speaks to the mental fragility of the collective leadership group there. Coach MacLean shared what everyone knew vocally in one of the later episodes, to me that performance is not on the coaches.

Everything he identified as a probem early in the season, in the end, played a factor in the playoffs. Tells me he knows what he is talking about, has ideas on how to make adjustments to mitigate and is willing to continuously adjust. More adjustment is needed, a la the over-posession we see at times.

And I guess just in general, he seemed to have a real feel for what each player needed at certain times througout the season.

Does he make in game mis-steps? Yup... I am not aware of a coach that doesn't. Shit happens fast in the NHL and sometimes you get caught up in your own head... but it was not prevelent and in no way lead the team to lose that series.

Just to wrap that up, I am a fan of the Leafs and anyone on the team at any given time. I don't give two f***s about any coach or player in general... but as long they are wearing blue and white I am their biggest fan and try to support them in a positive way... with absolute freak out sessions thrown here and there ;-)

Anyone from Europe here that can watch the show on prime? I want to see but its not on the prime account that i have..there are all others all or Nothing with nfl teams and city but not the one with the Leafs and i want to see it badly

As some others have mentioned, I'm disappointed with Joe's attitude.

He's obviously a likeable guy, not a locker room cancer, and good for morale... but he just doesn't seem to get it.

The scene where they talk to the Leafs leadership group about their lack of consistency/good play and he is super relaxed about it drived me absolutely bonkers.

Having a guy say that "it's just the ups and downs of a season" or whatever it was instead of agreeing that the team needs to get into good habits before the playoffs is so obvious and it's frustrating to see a 40yo vet of that calibre not understand that.

Edit: I've always liked Campbell, but my respect just keeps going up for him. He's the definition of a heart and soul player that seems to always put his teammates/team above himself.

It lied about the GM having 4 division titles with the Sault Greyhounds. He was their GM for only 3 seasons and they missed the playoffs in one of them, so I would definitely say its made to look like management's crap doesn't stink. It actually glossed over the struggles Dubas had in the Sault, there were many. Ask a hounds fan how they feel about the price Dubas paid to get Jack Campbell from Windsor, Dubas is the king of the overpay. You saw that first hand when they announced better first round picks were on the table for Foligno, he got excited at the prospect of blowing his assets on him.

Dubas telling Shanahan Vesey was on waivers Shanny was like with a confused look on his face 'Oh Im surprised' then walks out the door. Clearly he new what was going on or i couldnt tell if it was sarcasm or what. Also, Sheldon throws the f bomb out like a trucker as well its hilarious.

They won 1 with Dubas there. Keefe won a second one after Dubas left, then the next coach won two after Keefe left.

Finally finished the last episode, I am still not sure if I enjoyed it or not. There were a lot of good moments but knowing how it ends the whole time just made it feel very meh.

You gotta love Jack!

One of my favourite moments in the show.

No, they told Shanahan he was claimed and then Shanahan said he was surprised. He wasn't surprised that he was put on waivers.

almost seemed to me like Shanny was a bit annoyed that Vesey got claimed.

might fit into the narrative that last offseason was a shanny-heavy offseason, and thornton/vesey/simmonds/bogo were his boys.

or maybe not.

So like I said, Dubas didn't win 4 division titles with the Sault but if you watch the Amazon Prime garbage it portrays it that way. I rewound the thing and watched the scene where they said it again because I thought there was no way I heard that correctly but that's what they claimed. 4 division titles for Dubas in the Sault. I guess if you're going to lie you might as well go big. They should have just said he already won the cup with the Leafs and saved us however many years of his bungling management we have left if we're going to pretend facts are irrelevant for entertainment purposes.

Lighten up, Francis.

Francis, the guy who stole Pee Wee's bike or Ron Francis? Yeah, I wish I could relax a bit but I'm on year 47 of having my hockey dreams crapped upon by the Leafs. Prior to Dubas taking over it looked inevitable that misery would end, but that's looking a bit murky now. It just bugs me that that the Amazon series needs to lie about the guy. He won a championship as GM of the Marlies, but didn't accomplish much as the GM of the Sault at all. Seriously, check out the trade between Windsor and the Sault when Dubas was GM. He paid 9 assets for 1 year of Jack Campbell and they missed the playoffs that year. Derp!
