I actually rather liked Holland's summer, but the Oilers problems are:

Average defense
Suspect goaltending
Lack of depth scoring

Same as when he arrived. We have two franchise centers, the rest should be easy to fill out but we continue to shuffle deck chairs in the bottom 6 and trot out defensemen that are playing too high in the lineup.

If this team ends November below .500 I don't see how you keep him.

Reactions: The Safe Play
So Holland and sons additions this summer:

Mattias Janmark - couldn't make the team out of camp. Costing the Oilers 125K against the cap
Ryan Murray - The 8 games he's played has been 8 games too many.
Jack Campbell - The numbers speak for themselves.

Remember when half this board tried to argue that hiring Brad Holland to be the assistant GM in charge of professional scouting was anything other than a nepotism hire? And that somehow he was some hockey genius?

Yeah... about that...

Come One, Come All, Witness Ken Holland's mind-boggling Bermuda Triangle Of Suck, where scoring chances vanish into thin air!

Jesse-Puljujarvi-Oilers.jpg

See for yourself the clumsy Jesse "Dumbo On Skates" Puljujarvi. Loves pizza and bison, allergic to finishing scoring chances like you wouldn't believe! If you're lucky he'll trip over his over feet and injure himself!

Watch and be amazed as the tiny Kailer Yamamoto goes games at a time not even being able to get a shot on net with Leon Draisaitl! It's unbelievable! And he's now the only pint-sized playoff disappearing act in Alberta now that Johnny Hockey ran off to Columbus!

Warren-Foegele-Oilers-2-1200x800.jpg

Warren "No Goales" Foegele! The man born without any hands whatsoever! He couldn't finish with a pre-paid hooker! He's good for five alarm give aways and suicide passes up ice to rookies though. Don't try that at home kids!

Overstatement of the year. Barring teams that are blatantly tanking, I don't know if there's a worse defence than Oilers right now.

Holland needs to go. Bring in someone that can actually win a trade
Are you a fan of Boston Pizza because I know a guy south of us that could be out a job if his season continues like it is.:sarcasm:

What Ken needs to do is construct a big stick that he can smack over a guys head when they decide to stray away from team defence :thumbu:

I’m trying to figure out if Ken Holland or Anna Kane is more vilified on this site. One is a horrible human being, one is an NHL GM.

FMsilly.

Fire Holland for not signing Maroon. If he did Kane would not have been hurt! It's all his fault.

Id kill to have Keith back. Kulak is not a second pair D
Keith sent ripples through this organization.

Any time you can pick up a future 1st ballot Hall Of Fame player, even if it’s short term, you do it. I agree, would love Keith back on the ice. As far as Kulak, I don’t think anyone should expect much out of him except some bad penalties during regular season but come playoff expect a beast. I find his reckless style is better suited in a playoff atmosphere.

Based on recent events I’m going with Anna, but that’s a close call.

bang on
the weird part is these are all problems that have been here since well before Holland.
Not something he created but perpetuated and perhaps aggravated.
On top of that, we have no cap space and open roster spaces as well (one today and two when Kane was healthy).
it's bizarre really.

The only reason they were there was an once-a-generation type playoff performance by McDavid and got prompltly swept against the only actual elite team they faced.
Nah. This is a decent team. Has a couple small holes to fill. Colorade was a power house. No shame in losing a round to that team.

They were in the final 4 mostly due to McDrai having the 2 best playoff runs in decades which had nothing to do with Holland. Kane/Hyman/Ceci were good but other than that Kenny's acquisitions were anywhere from meh to outright useless *cough* Foegele *cough*.
So, four of our top 6 were good? Nothing wrong with that. Mcleod was good. Ceci like you mentioned. I thought the Kulak Barrie pairing was good. Smith was good. To say it was a two man show is dishonest. McDrai were lights out though. Have to remember Nurse was injured as well

Most of the good players weren't brought in by Holland they were inherited from MacTavish/Chiarelli draft picks. Kulak/Barrie were overrated as hell they were perma playing vs bottom 6 forwards/bottom pairings while our dude with the torn hip flexor had to go up against monsters like Gaudreau/MacKinnon every shift b/c the other defensemen Holland brought in can't hack it against anyone with speed/skill. We also have very definitions of "good" for goaltending.

Kane, Hyman, Kulak, Barrie, were good imo. Keith was decent. Those were all Holland moves. He can't help the rest of the team he inherited. Don't get wrong. He's missed on a few moves, but i think it's disingenuous to say he hasn't improved the team. Smith was no better than average now that I look at his numbers, so I'll give you that one.
