Fire Ken Holland: 2022-2023 edition

Holland has been asleep at the wheel for a while. He does the bare minimum and will make the obvious moves.

This isnt a GM who is going to figure out how to be creative and utilize something even as simple as cap rention

Hes locked in on 3 players and hes not looking at anyone else

Koskinen was Chiarellis signing.
While I get holland likes trust, he could easily had traded Koskinen for Nother backup year 1 deadline for a pick. Maybe he wantwd stability, and not change things to fast?

Zegras is more of Hall, Gagner etc.. so i dont cry over that.
Nurse was a signing where he may pretty much had to. 8m$ would been better, but we dont know how the talks where.
Campbell 5 years is his worst move of them all. Like... five years.... Lucic bells are ringing.
Flushing down two 2nds for a guy that he thought woumd fit with McDavid because fast is fanboy level. Fire that pro scout.

I have more trust in Brads fingertopgefuhl than daddy Kenny.

Braf overtakes Kennys duties would be a good.

Out Yamamoto and Campbell. In with a new 1B goalie and another D.
 
It's really hard for me to have a strong opinion on Holland at this point.

I complained all year last year and then he got us Kane for nothing and then Kane re-signed and we are a MUCH better team with Kane in the line-up.

This year Holland has already made a huge trade for a d-man we need to strengthen our top 4.
Yes, Campbell contract sucks, but how about Hopkins and Hyman's contracts? HMMM? Yeah, I know.

We still firing this bum? I hear he stutters at press conferences which makes half our posters blow a gasket since he isn’t an eloquent speaker you know his commentary is up and down like a toilet seat but mostly down

Edit: in case it isn’t clear I am being sarcastic about the firing and really like what he did. Results matter more than how well he can speak

Exactly. Those who mock the way he speaks and think it reflects on his intellect or capability of doing his job are really, really uninformed about such things.
Its ridiculous & is reflective on those making such pronouncements.
And thats not a compliment.

Good with the bad. Just like he said with the reality of being an NHL GM making real life, not video game, decisions.

Nuge, Hyman, Kane contracts all aces. Ceci and Kulak pretty decent. Kassian bad contract and assets paid to move out the salary. Trades similar good and bad.

Reworking this defense after losing Klefbom and Larsson while moving into a contending team's window required resources and times. Oilers defense finally has an elite veteran shutdown guy who's way more than that after successfully recycling super elite Duncan Keith for a one-and-done deep playoff run. This Oilers defense is now big, better able to defend, and more versatile. Smallest guy is now Kulak at 6'1" with a core that is 6'4"; 6'4"; 6'3"; 6'3"; and biggest guy is a raw meat eater 6'6".

How the real world job of an NHL GM is done (see 26:00 minute mark):

And he didn't find capable support for Skinner at the deadline, even after that wretched Columbus game, leading to Winnipeg winning a game we easily could've won were it not for Campbell.

My vote is Yes Please.

I don’t think there was any way to address this at the deadline, not with the cap situation the way it is. But since the reason the cap situation is what it is is also largely on Holland he is still culpable.

AA for 2 2nds. Not drafting Zegras, Walsted, signing Campbell will go down as his biggest disasters to date. He is about 50/50 good moves. At least better than the previous GM, Chia who was 20/80 but that's setting the bar low.
 
Yeah, Chia is arguably the worst GM in NHL history, so Holland can get away with more mistakes than most competitive teams would allow. But we might miss the playoffs due to his decision to sign and keep Campbell. Holland has to go.
