I agree - I think he said he wanted to be in the AHL but I think Kitchener this year and AHL at 19 makes the most sense here.
OHL is a step back for him IMO. He already played 2 seasons vs men in Slovak League, and no matter how bad this league is, it's still better than OHL.

Tatar took the same route, from Slovakia straight to AHL and he developed fine (for the 2nd round pick)

Tatar was a year older when he was drafted though.

The consideration shouldn't be whether the level of hockey is higher or lower, it's whether it's more or less appropriate to develop the things that will make him a high impact player for us. His play is very mature for such a young guy, but what I want out of him is high offensive output. I don't want a Lehkonen, who is another player who always played up because he was ''ready'' for it, but as a result never developed any offence.

I doubt that, the OHL is the best junior league in the world, the Slovak league is below the Czech league and that league isn't very good. I just don't see how Mesar would be taking a step back playing in the OHL. No way.

I agree, OHL would probably be the best option for him. At the same time, mtl front office should do their due diligence with Kitchener management. Oskar Olausson was picked right in Mesar’s range in 2021 and his transition to the OHL was a complete disaster. The team had zero idea how to use him, and he has taken a step back developmentally

Those sequences were impressive, and they're good examples of how he plays. I would really like to see him in Kitchener this year. He needs to learn to dominate, to get the taste for it, not just take good shifts and do good things. He needs a season of dunking on fools.

Hughes in his Zoom call today said that they will decide if they want him in Kitchener or in Laval.

I think that even if they start him in Laval, they can still send him down to Junior if they decide to, right? Similar to what Philly did with Foerster last year? I think he had started in Lehigh Valley and the Flyers decided to send him down to Juniors.

they can send him down from Laval to the OHL but that would not be good imo.

His play in camp will dictate where he goes. Part of me wants him to go to the OHL to channel his inner-Marner.
P.S. Leafs haters will no doubt jump on this, but Marner is a hell of a complete player now.

He does have a little Marner in him. I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up a bigger point producer than Slaf lol

Il y a une raison qui explique pourquoi Mesar a été choisi en première ronde. Dude comfortably has top-six potential. The skating, the vision/IQ. Great prospect. 5'8 Lane Hutson fell at ~68 but Filip Mesar at his whopping 5'9 went 1st round... Small guys usually are underdrafted, but if a team is willing to draft you that soon, it means you have something special. In the draft threads we all liked Mesar, we all saw the talent.

PS : did Justin Trudeau write this post? Just kidding, your french is great and I enjoy reading your comments written in Molière's tongue.
Some pointers tho to be a good, yet fair sport : je n'ai pas dit*, cauchemard*, si on lui permettait de se développer*.

Is there a French-speaking Habs forum somewhere, something like HFBoards? I've been trying to learn French on my own for years, currently studying all the Astérix stories, but some hockey debate in French would be nice as well.
I'd be happy to take part.

Cauchemarde is a nightmare with a scatological component to it. :skeptic:
