I don't get that at all, let him play in the WJC's, please no NHL or AHL for him. SHL or OHL sounds great to me.

Even if he's in the AHL, he can still be loaned to play at the WJC. In fact, they can do that even if he's in Montreal. Much like they did with Mete.

SHL would be good for him if he's not ready to play in the AHL.

I'd rather he be in North America. So it's either AHL or OHL for me.

It wouldn't be terrible if he goes to SHL, but that is my third option.

It's similar to Norlinder for me last year. I wasn't against him going back to Sweden, but my preference was that he stay in North America and play in Laval. He'd already have one year of North American hockey under his belt now.

I want Mesar to get acclimated sooner. Whether it's in Laval or Kitchener, he'll adjust to the schedule and the travel. In Europe, they play once and sometimes twice a week.

Definitely this....I want him in NA.

Definitely OHL. He needs to adapt to NA hockey, life abroad and a big portion of ice-time. I think only OHL can guarantee a good mix of those three for him.
When it comes to comparison, definitely not Gaborik. Maybe something between Tatar and Nagy, hopefully better attitude than those two.

Agreed, I am ok with either OHL or AHL.

The SHL is a distant 3rd as I don't see the benefit of playing in a men's league in Europe over a men's league in North America. He should be learning how to adapt his toolset to the North American game on smaller ice surfaces where quicker decisions and puck protection skills are keys to developing offensive success in the NHL.

I hope we hit with 2/3 of the next round of Slovaks to be impactful NHL players. Can Mesar be a Gaborik type player?

List since 1990.

If he can handle the AHL full time than he should play there. Otherwise, should be in the OHL for a year. Both Nylander bros played the AHL right after being drafted one struggled, the other did excellent.

So the Wing to C thing has not worked out so good for us with both Chucky and KK.

Now I read somewhere that Mesar has played wing the last 2 years but until then was a C, and the Habs are looking at him as a possible C.

Should we hope to God no they don't try that, or WTH if he is going to the OHL maybe whisper a word to the coach about trying him out there ?

Nylander started his age 18 season in the SHL where he dominated at a ppg rate and then came over mid season to the AHL and did great but he was the 8th OA pick vs Mesar being the 26th OA.

To me the Slovak league is below the Czech league and the Czech is not a very good league, likely ECHL level or below. So going from 16 pts in the Slovak league in 37 games to the AHL is a really big jump, I wouldn't risk it and would just rather they take things slow unless he's outstanding at camp.

He said he prefers Center and doesn't feel comfortable at LW. So it's either RW or Center. I would put him in the OHL as a top line center no question imo.

I like that a lot. We passed on Wright, who could have been a top 6C for us. Mesar and Beck are much longer shots at being top 6Cs, but where we picked them is where you find some top 6 guys, and they both have the skating , skill and upside.

Outrageous of the egotistic NHL as usual, trying to sabotage yet another top international event even though it's played in the middle of summer.

They believe that a fart in prep camp is more important than representing your country that helped raise you to become the hockey player that you are. Give me a break already!

Mešár, Slafkovský, Nemec, Sýkora and everyone else should go and play in the WJC, no questions asked. Anything else is despicable and an outrage. :thumbd:
I get it sucks as a fan of Slovakia, but this is the best move for them. They’ve played a lot of hockey this year and need a summer off. They can’t risk injury just for a pointless youth tournament.

You should just look forward to 5+ years from now with this golden generation making noise in adult hockey competitions.

Canada will lose a lot of players.

In hindsight, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to re-schedule the world juniors in August. Should have probably just cancelled the event due to covid.

Remember the world cup of hockey that took place in August or September 1 year? Yeah, apparently that wasn't such a good idea either as we haven't seen it since.

I want him in the OHL. No need to rush him to the AHL. Let him dominate and get used to the NA ice especially if we want to play him as a Center.

Maybe the same can be said for Slaf too.

Let them dominate their peers before moving to play against older players.

That's right, training camps are more important than a make-up tournament in the middle of August.

Do you realize this is the only time of the year they actually get a chance to breathe and recuperate and properly prepare for camps?

It's a good idea because it will give a chance to lower ranked players to showcase themselves.

Its mindblowing seeing everyone freak out about him not going to this joke "tournament" in August when theres an incredibly great chance he will be there for the real thing in December..

I've been thinking HuGo's mindset of not wanting to send Slaf and Mesar to this thing isnt just about the NHL training camp that quickly follows it but more because maybe they'll just want to send BOTH to it later in the winter
