I'd like him to go to the OHL and dominate.
I hope we hit with 2/3 of the next round of Slovaks to be impactful NHL players. Can Mesar be a Gaborik type player?
List since 1990.
He'd have to develop very well, let's say.
I knew nothing of him until we drafted him. Just reading some reports and watching video now.
Elite Prospects have good things to say.
This Slovakian winger just flies out there, weaving through traffic with a crossover-heavy stride, changing lanes and speeds to throw defencemen off balance, and exploding away from contact with forceful weight transfers. He's an absolute force between the blue lines and one of the draft's best transition forwards. The next item on the list is Mešár's handling skill. The mechanical base is sound, with his hands operating independently of his feet, the puck in his hip pocket, and his top hand pushed out for the full range of motion. He dekes past opponents with quickness, precision, and agility. Simply put: Mešár's got moves
The last part is what made me think about Gaborik... "Mesar's got moves"
Mesar is a top 10 skater in this draft, perhaps top 5, and he has strong technical ability. Good puck handler, very agile, good shooting technique.
But what we're waiting to see from him is really high level offensive ability. Gaborik was a killer. He was one of the players that you would least want shooting on your net in the whole league. Mesar is a very good all around player, and has some venom to his game. But we'll have to see how much offense he can bring with him to the NHL.
He looking like tatar
Prime Gaborik was like a top 10 winger in the game we might have to temper that a bit
It would be nice to have a French thread here, IMO.
Management doesn’t want him to go, says it’s still his decision. But unlikely he will play in august as he respects clubs decision to prepare for season and avoid injury. This Slovak WJC team is gonna be a bunch of 2023 draft eligibles and Chromiak
Exactly. And unless it was a serious injury what does it matter. It's not like the Habs are going to compete this year. I can understand any team that might contend not wanting their players to go.If this is true then that is really disappointing behaviour by management, there is zero chance that they would do this to a Canadian kid with no chance of playing in the NHL this season.
But there's a chance he plays in the AHL over the OHL. It's his choice, but if he goes, it's probably the OHL for him. If he stays, it's very likely be earns a spot in the AHL.If this is true then that is really disappointing behaviour by management, there is zero chance that they would do this to a Canadian kid with no chance of playing in the NHL this season.

Truly not sure. Also this:It's not like he's going to make the Habs next season anyway. Why wouldn't they want him to get the WJC experience?
What about someone like Reway? Talent-wise of course. Reaway's mentality has never been suited for a professional athlete. The guy is a total disaster.Gaborik is one of the greatest skaters in the history of the game....Mesar is a very good skater but will never be Gaborik.
I see Mesar's upside as a quicker/slicker Tatar.
Reway was a head case and was not very fast.....I was never a big fan of his. What about someone like Reway? Talent-wise of course. Reaway's mentality has never been suited for a professional athlete. The guy is a total disaster.
