Kinda strange to go into the draft with wing as the strongest position and draft two of them. I guess they don't see upside to the D and centres in this draft.
Drafted Beck at #33 and traded to acquire Dach.

Strange that Mesar is opting out of the WJHC. He doesn't have a shot at the Habs this year. What gives?

Whether he makes the Habs or not, he will still be at the rookie camp and the main camp. So he is using this time to rest up and prepare for those camps.

And almost all of the 2022 draft class has opted out. Very few will participate.

I can understand those players who have a legitimate shot at pushing for a NHL spot. But the rest with no shot like Mesar should play. The best way to prepare for camps and get into game shape is to play high level hockey.

Otherwise, why should anyone play in the tournament? Joshua Roy and Kidney should skip it to prepare for their respective camps...

Roy and Kidney didn't have their seasons end and then go straight into preparing for the draft, going to the combine, doing all media, then the draft and then straight to development camp.

They had time to rest and recuperate and train since their seasons ended.

There will be some 2022 draftees that will participate, but most of them opted to prepare for camps.

The best way to train is to play high-level hockey. The rest are just gonna hit the gym and do low level skating drills...

Crazy that this draft had kids like Yurov, Mesar and Kulich drop in the late 1st.

Mesar and Heineman for Toffoli, are you kidding me?? That trade will turn out pretty ugly for Calgary.
Fair for both teams IMO. Toffoli has a reasonable cap hit and the Flames may be able to use him this year and flip him next year for a late 1st.

Tbh, in all likelihood Toffoli is a better player than Mesar will be.

Not sure about it. Toffoli is a streaky goalscorer that is rather useless when he is not scoring since his overall game is flawed, makes alot of dumb, low % plays and not much of a treath on the PP. To me Toffolli is a better version of Michael Ryder. Mesar has the potential to be a much better rounded player that kills you with alot of speed and skills.

You think Mesar is particularly good value in the range he was taken in? Where would he have gone in an average draft in your opinion?
