It looked like much more of a ticky tack make up call than a legitimate slashing call.
I've never seen forwards called for such a weak attempt to dislodge the puck loose in men's hockey but once again I'm not sure of the rules regarding the women's version.
Either way I'm not a fan of such a weak call in OT gold medal games.

For the sake of accuracy I hope the stamps and commemorative plates depict a 4 on 3 tap-in goal set up by some nice passing
And in the U.S. almost nobody will remember it 3 years from now...not because its women's hockey but because its hockey...same goes with our epic late goal we had in the World Cup vs. Algeria back in 2010 it was the story of the day for awhile but now almost nobody remembers it anymore...bottom line is if its not NBA, NFL or MLB it won't be remembered here.

Which is why when I post in the Don Cherry thread about hockey being on a different level culturally in Canada and get lit up for it, I still know I am correct.

I will always remember that game today. The comeback was a great moment in Canadian hockey.

The hockey gods were evening up the loss at the World Cup of Women Soccer. I am happy to take a win in hockey over soccer.

A few things...
Great game. Both teams played very well.
I am hypnotized by the open net shot. No matter how often I watch it, I am still amazed it did not go in. I must have watched it 100+ times. It was headed for the back corner and then spun on its side towards the post. I keep waiting for it to finally go in.
As for the breakaway penalty, it was a tripping penalty. Knight clipped Wickenheiser skate and they both fell. Intentional or not, it is a penalty.
The slashing penalty was also fair. She and Team USA had been warned.
I think Team USA fans will get their pound of flesh tomorrow with a win - with the hockey gods evening the score once again.
I can't believe how many posts argued the same thing over and over and over again. I read all 4 threads and I am amazed at the (lack of) debate.

yeah i know but even when using extreme sarcasm accuracy is looked for
he should've gone for the "i really hope you Canadians are happy that you scored a goal when the USA had NO players on the ice and the Canadians had like 15 and an empty net to shoot on over and over and over again" vibe to really REALLY drive his sarcastic point home

I don't think it quite hit her what she did. I agree with you though, her celebration was far from energetic. Seemed like a celebration of relief rather then one of jubilation.
Again Canada snatches victory from the jaws of defeat from the Americans...quite tragic for USA bit c'est la vie...well one loser Kessel down another to go down tomorrow..would be a double tragedy for that family..but as a Canadian I hope to delight in that thought should the Canadian guys duplicate the win of The Canadian gals...even better if Phil goes -3 and no points...just would be delicious if it happened that way. The both American and Leaf fans both would get knocked off their pevassals to think their hero fails in the big games..I hope that will be the case and not the reverse..but I BELIEVE he will not come through when it counts as his history to date shows...and without their top gun saving them. ..I BELIEVE USA is going down for the count... Well USA has others to become the hero instead. .but even I. ..a Blackhawks fan..do not believe Kane is going to be a difference-makerwho can deflated Canada..nor anyone else on Team USA.. I just feel a laughed coming on. The bubble bursts on USA. ..Canadians bathe in glory again..The hockey Gods have decreed it. Watch. And if I am wrong about the outcome,then the math guys on reversion to the mean and probability will need to devise new theories..because it makes no sense that USA forwards keep shooting and scoring at such high pace while Canada's boatload of top NHL scoring forwards have got nowhere near what they ought to have in filling the net..I cannot see yet another goalie play wall and have the game of his life..nope. .the laws if statistical probability suggest USA slows down or goes dead cold in scoring pacevery soon...while Canada heats up in an explosion of goals just to get back to the pace its talent should produce...hot goes cold...cold goes hot..that is life..so IF there is a(hockey) God...you gotta figure the big fliperoo of fortune is on tomorrow.

I think it was a classy celebration.
It was pretty classy. I don't think anyone would have cared though if she went a little more crazy.
Which is crazy because to be honest the pace of this game was not very fast, the officials must be inexperienced.
I don't know where that lineswomen thought that pass along the boards to the point in the final minute was going.

The ref is calling the game in real-time so the way the play developed that call is going to be made 100% of the time unless it's very obvious there was no contact (and even on the replays it's not at all obvious).
