GDT: Feb. 20 • Women's Gold Medal Game • Canada vs. United States • Pt IV

They were warned previously by the ref about it and chose to ignore the warning. Silver medals instead of gold are the consequence of that choice.

It looked like much more of a ticky tack make up call than a legitimate slashing call.

I've never seen forwards called for such a weak attempt to dislodge the puck loose in men's hockey but once again I'm not sure of the rules regarding the women's version.

Either way I'm not a fan of such a weak call in OT gold medal games.

Good for Canada!

They really needed this one.

I bet there will be images of that 5 on 3 tap-in goal on stamps and commemorative plates. What a beautiful way to end the gold medal game in the OT in the olympics!

Big ups to the refs, as well. Way to keep the game under control. I hope the Canadian goalie's leg isn't broken from that vicious whack Lamoureux delivered.

For the sake of accuracy I hope the stamps and commemorative plates depict a 4 on 3 tap-in goal set up by some nice passing

this will (should) go down in the annals of Canadian hockey lore as one of the greatest hockey moments ever. Outstanding comeback and and unbelieveable game.

And in the U.S. almost nobody will remember it 3 years from now...not because its women's hockey but because its hockey...same goes with our epic late goal we had in the World Cup vs. Algeria back in 2010 it was the story of the day for awhile but now almost nobody remembers it anymore...bottom line is if its not NBA, NFL or MLB it won't be remembered here.

Which is why when I post in the Don Cherry thread about hockey being on a different level culturally in Canada and get lit up for it, I still know I am correct.

Thank you.

I will always remember that game today. The comeback was a great moment in Canadian hockey.

Clever. Someone is always being very clever.

The hockey gods were with Canada.

The hockey gods were evening up the loss at the World Cup of Women Soccer. I am happy to take a win in hockey over soccer.

Thanks for that.
Appreciate the congratulations. Hopefully that beauty wrister from Poulin will be seen many times.
You guys did well as well. It's a great rivalry!

Replay on TSN right now, The US really should of capitalized on those two early PP's. Szabados was unreal

For the sake of accuracy I hope the stamps and commemorative plates depict a 4 on 3 tap-in goal set up by some nice passing

Walt is not being sincere, guys.

Rewatching the golden goal, weak celly by poulin

She should've done a yakupov at least

A few things...

Great game. Both teams played very well.

I am hypnotized by the open net shot. No matter how often I watch it, I am still amazed it did not go in. I must have watched it 100+ times. It was headed for the back corner and then spun on its side towards the post. I keep waiting for it to finally go in. :amazed:

As for the breakaway penalty, it was a tripping penalty. Knight clipped Wickenheiser skate and they both fell. Intentional or not, it is a penalty.

The slashing penalty was also fair. She and Team USA had been warned.

I think Team USA fans will get their pound of flesh tomorrow with a win - with the hockey gods evening the score once again.

I can't believe how many posts argued the same thing over and over and over again. I read all 4 threads and I am amazed at the (lack of) debate.

yeah i know but even when using extreme sarcasm accuracy is looked for

he should've gone for the "i really hope you Canadians are happy that you scored a goal when the USA had NO players on the ice and the Canadians had like 15 and an empty net to shoot on over and over and over again" vibe to really REALLY drive his sarcastic point home

Again Canada snatches victory from the jaws of defeat from the Americans...quite tragic for USA bit c'est la vie...well one loser Kessel down another to go down tomorrow..would be a double tragedy for that family..but as a Canadian I hope to delight in that thought should the Canadian guys duplicate the win of The Canadian gals...even better if Phil goes -3 and no points...just would be delicious if it happened that way. The both American and Leaf fans both would get knocked off their pevassals to think their hero fails in the big games..I hope that will be the case and not the reverse..but I BELIEVE he will not come through when it counts as his history to date shows...and without their top gun saving them. ..I BELIEVE USA is going down for the count... Well USA has others to become the hero instead. .but even I. ..a Blackhawks fan..do not believe Kane is going to be a difference-makerwho can deflated Canada..nor anyone else on Team USA.. Only Kessel could single handedly do that if he has one of those games and not even Price playing well can stop the nipping talent Kessel has..but of course if he is not "on fire" this game we know.he can also be a -3 goat. .I BELIEVE he is due for that kind of LOSER game..you see the hockey gods do not play fair..They like to pull the rig out from under justvwhen you think you arson top..Did it to Amanda Kessel and mighty USA women..going to do it again to Phil Kessel and the breeze-through on fire USAbscoring forward machine..a big reversal of scoring coming as I predict Canada chairs Quick from the crease and the stingyvCanadiab d-corps again proves it does not givebup much...Interval if my Blackhawks own Quick..I think Canada can make him look bad too and ifbitvgets out of hand loser Kessel will fold into a negative difference maker with a big -3 el fold act..The hockey gods will smile big on Canada again but it will be no nail-biter..could be a blow out for Canada...they are due and Kessel due to go real cold not real gold...a reversion to the mean is coming...Canadian scoring explodes...USA limp home as big losers. I just feel a laughed coming on. The bubble bursts on USA. ..Canadians bathe in glory again..The hockey Gods have decreed it. Watch. And if I am wrong about the outcome, then the math guys on reversion to the mean and probability will need to devise new theories..because it makes no sense that USA forwards keep shooting and scoring at such high pace while Canada's boatload of top NHL scoring forwards have got nowhere near what they ought to have in filling the net..I cannot see yet another goalie play wall and have the game of his life..nope. .the laws if statistical probability suggest USA slows down or goes dead cold in scoring pacevery soon...while Canada heats up in an explosion of goals just to get back to the pace its talent should produce...hot goes cold...cold goes hot..that is life..so IF there is a(hockey) God...you gotta figure the big fliperoo of fortune is on tomorrow.

What a post! Made me go blurry eyed. :)

God Damn...do you not know how to create paragraphs.

As a former American, I'm very sad for the ladies. Still love the people of the country I once called home. As a current Canadian, YAAAAAAAHWHOOOOOOOO! What an FN comeback!

The refs were in the way the entire game, for both teams, that wasnt a factor, too bad the officials werent better, they marred an otherwise wonderful game.

Which is crazy because to be honest the pace of this game was not very fast, the officials must be inexperienced.

I don't know where that lineswomen thought that pass along the boards to the point in the final minute was going.

First off congrats Canada and see you tomorrow :)

I was a bit puzzled by the slashing call in OT but if she had been warned previously then there is no excuse.

I know some folks are saying there was no contact on the breakaway penalty and that both players went to the ice independently. Even if that's the case, it hardly matters. The ref is calling the game in real-time so the way the play developed that call is going to be made 100% of the time unless it's very obvious there was no contact (and even on the replays it's not at all obvious).
