THe us girls only have themselves to blame. u shouldn't blame anyone else.

nice for canada to get another gold medal. we definitely deserve it.

No it didn't. That play was plain and simply not a slash. They even replayed it and it couldn't have been clearer. That wasn't even ticky tack, that was a phantom, and if you don't play for the puck when you are in front of the goalie, you don't deserve to play on a team competing for the gold medal. Canadian fans denying this just goes to show how credible they are on analyzing what happened.

The ref flat out chose to make a phantom call to deny the US a PP so as "not to get involved" and in process, she got more involved. That's why you do not make calls like that.

I took it as a very questionable "make-up" call for the cross-checking penalty called seconds earlier that clearly wasn't a cross-checking penalty. Call it roughing, call it double-forearm-to-the-head but don't call it cross-checking.

And no, it wasn't a slash and shouldn't have been a penalty in my books. Again, maybe the ref thought about the "cross-check" seconds earlier, maybe thought she had to "even it up" (if she for some reason had second thoughts that for whatever reason the "cross-check" wasn't a penalty at all, not that she just mis-named the call) and looked for the next thing to call that would "even it up". It has happened before in hockey. And if that is what even possibly happened that is very very bad reffing for a gold medal game.

The other thing is that during the game a team will literally make dozens upon dozens of errors that had they not been made any one of them could have changed the course of the game. From bad passes to missed open nets to stupid penalties to well whatever. In this case the US made mistakes that allowed a bad call to wrestle the game and the gold medal away from them.

When I'm on the ice I'm the first person to blame the officials (the same as every player). Officials must know that to a player they are the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. And yeah you get upset in the moment. But when it comes down to it, as you think back on the game it becomes obvious that the game was not lost because of poor officiating or bad bounces but because of a whole stack of things that were in OUR control and we screwed up.

I'm curious..... what is it that makes you the 'right' one and everyone else the wrong ones? Seriously, I'd like to know what you have to back it up rather than just your 'opinion' that it is so. Where are the facts? Where is the video evidence? The hidden voice recording of her planning to affect the outcome of the game with a 'phantom' call? Where is the ref's written testimony that she deliberately gave a 'phantom' call out of thin air for some strange reason you keep alluding to that doesn't bear up in the light of day or in the absence of concrete facts? I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting for some FACTS instead of conjecture.

Canada won. Congrats.

If you care to watch the 3rd Period, you will see all sorts of penalties not called. The refs "put up their whistles".

No problem with the "let them play" attitude.

The only issue is that in OT, the refs arbitrarily decided to call penalties that were ignored in the 3rd.

An inconsistent game called by the refs leads to this. One side denying that the penalty call was legit. One side stating that the penalty call was legit.

So you have a game that was in essence decided by the referees. Not a good scenario in a Gold Medal Game.

Again, congrats to Canada. Lots of talent on that team.

The hockey gods were with Canada.

How do you miss an open net?

And how do you not play good D with three
minutes left? Wow! Canada never gave up. Pretty remarkable.

I thought the hockey gods were with the US on that play to even allow that shot at the empty net to happen.

Let's be honest. No matter what the refs had done fans of the losing side, be it Canada or the US, would be complaining about the refs. People say that these refs weren't top quality but you hear the exact same complaining from fans on here for every single NHL game involving NHL refs. It's the nature of the game.

Good for Canada!

They really needed this one.

I bet there will be images of that 5 on 3 tap-in goal on stamps and commemorative plates. What a beautiful way to end the gold medal game in the OT in the olympics!

Big ups to the refs, as well. Way to keep the game under control. I hope the Canadian goalie's leg isn't broken from that vicious whack Lamoureux delivered.

Thanks for that.
Appreciate the congratulations. Hopefully that beauty wrister from Poulin will be seen many times.
You guys did well as well. It's a great rivalry!

this will (should) go down in the annals of Canadian hockey lore as one of the greatest hockey moments ever. Outstanding comeback and and unbelieveable game.

Replay on TSN right now, The US really should of capitalized on those two early PP's. Szabados was unreal

NBC-E just started and not even a word that a hockey game was played today , pretty pathetic that they would not even acknowledge their silver medal.

Pretty sad if you ask me.

I understand the crosschecking call in OT as there is no hitting allowed in women's hockey. The slashing call on USA was one of the worst calls I've ever seen (unless there is a different rule for women's hockey).

I honestly can't tell if I am more proud of this win or the one in Salt lake.

What was it again?

11 straight penalties called on the Canadians?

Apparently she was warned earlier in the game for slashing the goaltender, it was a repeat offence.

Yup, was thinking the same, guarantee they would have replayed the game if we had won or portions of it I mean.

They were warned previously by the ref about it and chose to ignore the warning. Silver medals instead of gold are the consequence of that choice.

How could any win eclipse the one in Salt Lake? Absolutely no way. They were literally playing against a stacked deck and STILL won. That ref did everything she could aside from awarding the US goals. That was a performance for the ages for Canada playing against the ref and an excellent US team.
