Yeah, the puck was about 1.5 feet ahead of her, because she put it there knowing full well that the goalie has no chance to get to it before she does. Two more strides and she has it with only the goalie to beat. If that's not a clear-cut breakaway, then I don't know what is.

The puck was a good 10 feet infront of her. Please go to the 3rd thread for this game and find post 870. You will see.

Was listening to TSN 690 on drive home and they had Tessa Bonhomme on. She was going on and on about how she knew Canada would come back once they scored the first goal because the American women weren't resilient and couldn't handle adversity and pressure.

All I could think was...... What a ****ing *****

Ehh, give her a pass. She's not far removed from this rivalry herself.

I think everyone ultimately knows she didn't call it because she really did not want to see the game decided in that manner...as you say, the puck can easily be ahead of the player at times and it does not necessarily mean they won't have possession of it a second later...I think the ref got an out on not calling it and took it...even if I was a Canada fan part of me would be like, yeah I really want to win but I'd hate to see this thing get won on a penalty shot.

I am not sure how to post the gif for the trip. It is from post 870 in the 3rd thread from this game. Please help.

I don't have to look at pictures, cause I've got the game recorded. And yeah, sorry, I was looking at the distance between the blade of her stick and the puck, not at the distance between her skates and the puck. That's because I was kind of assuming that in a breakaway she'd be trying to play the puck with her stick, not with her skates.

No problem, buddy. :)

A few things...

Great game. Both teams played very well.

I am hypnotized by the open net shot. No matter how often I watch it, I am still amazed it did not go in. I must have watched it 100+ times. It was headed for the back corner and then spun on its side towards the post. I keep waiting for it to finally go in. :amazed:

As for the breakaway penalty, it was a tripping penalty. Knight clipped Wickenheiser skate and they both fell. Intentional or not, it is a penalty.

The slashing penalty was also fair. She and Team USA had been warned.

I think Team USA fans will get their pound of flesh tomorrow with a win - with the hockey gods evening the score once again.

I can't believe how many posts argued the same thing over and over and over again. I read all 4 threads and I am amazed at the (lack of) debate.

kevd, I m amazed how scared you are always of the team were about to play. In the other thread you were scared when you thought Canada had to play the Russians, now you think the US is going to win. Anyways, I think if anything, this victory will give the Canadian men more inspiration to win tomorrow, and go out and beat them. As a mens hockey player, how can you not be more inspired by what these women did in coming back today

You're right, hitmen. You are right. I am a coward. I have been for a long time and I am too old to change. :)

Anyway, I hope you are right. Nothing will make me happier than a win tomorrow for Canada.

There was contact. Knigh'st skate clipped Hayley Wickenheiser back skate which resulted in them both falling. The wrong call was made (it should have been tripping) but the result was the same - a 2 minute penalty.

That is incorrect. See above.

Had she not fell she would have been caught in a stride or two. Also the whistle blow was extremely late. I don't know what angle they had when they saw the girl go down but my guess is they didn't see anything and made up a cross checking call. If they got the call wrong like you say how can you argue that they saw contact?

I guess there was still a ton of hatred even after the game. Again, at the risk of being sexist, women sure can hold a grudge.

I did not see anything overly hostile during the handshake or anything, its hard to believe some of these players on the two teams are not friends off the ice in some form, you have to think over the years some have maybe played together in some form or another.

I have no idea what they saw but I am a strong believer that the end justifies the means. It was a 2 minute penalty. I really don't care what they call it as long as 2 minutes are given.

KevyD you just jinxed it.

With my luck, I probably did

Caught by whom? By the US player who wasn't skating anymore cause she had fallen down herself?

Knight skates like the wind. Hayley is older than dirt. If they hadn't fallen, my guess, she would have been caught. :)

The poster was reading too much into what she said.

The poster was spot on

Maybe I'm just overly accustomed to seeing professional sports figures being respectful and not pissing on a team when they're down.

Just watched a replay of the game. All I can say is WOW. Down 0-2 with 3 mins and whatever left in the game and to come back to tie it up with 50 seconds left was awesome. Gold for Canada. Love it.

Goaltending was the biggest difference today. Canada's Goalie was and is better. And it showed in OT when she made big saves out of the gate, the winning goal was nice, but the American Goalie was too slow to react, left half the net wide open and Poulin had an easy shot to win it.

Glad you agree with me on that....Also the previous play how the American fanned on the one timer which resulted in the breakaway by Wickenhiser I couldn't believe that.....Was that Knight that fanned on that shot? If Stamkos had that opportunity that would have been game over....I know that's a hypothetical situation and is probably way off topic but it pissed me off I could have scored there......I felt bad for her.

"Had they not fallen" is not quite the same thing as "had Hayley not Fallen". I don't see it as any kind of justification for tripping a player that you're a faster skater than the player you tripped. If Knight is such a superior skater, maybe she should have gone around Wickenheiser to get the puck instead of clipping Hayley's foot. No need to foul if you can defend cleanly.

The reason Poulin had half the net open wasn't because the US goalie was slow to react, it was because she read the play wrong and moved to her left to see around the screen at the same some the pass went to her right.

That was a positioning and play reading issue caused by the screen in front, not a reaction issue.
