The Canucks know this player inside out, Lafrenière's old agent is current Canucks assistant GM Emilie Castonguay.

The Canucks have checked in on Lafrenière, he was made a healthy scratch last week by the Rangers.

The Rangers are very ware of the Vancouver interest in Lafrenière.

Lafrenière will not be cheap but the Canucks have the assets like Bo Horvat to pull this off, if the Rangers decide to move him

Lafrenière is the type of player the new regime in Vancouver is looking for.

Before he was traded to Montreal, the Canucks were also one of the teams after Blackhawks forward Kirby Dach

Lafreniere and Dach are the type of young players the Canucks are looking for.

This is the part that scares me...he should be cheap, not "bottom of the clearance bin" cheap, but he shouldn't be viewed as a #1 overall pick with huge upside anymore...he's a risky proposition, but one I'd be interested in provided the cost was befitting his current standing...a LW with upside who has currently stalled in his development...if he were part of a Horvat trade I'd still want a piece that filled a need (ie a center or RHD).

rather Lafreniere than the newhooks, mcmichaels etc.

I thought Lafreniere looked good in the playoffs when he was physical.

He has the tools to be a Gary Roberts, Andrew Ladd type abrasive winger. He's 6'1-2, will be able to add some more muscle to his frame.

He needs to not let the #1 hype distract him and think he needs to put up 100 points to justify his draft position.

A 60 point winger who is a pain to play against and can go to the dirty areas is a valuable piece.

Not surprised by this at all. I see what they're trying to do, but still don't have much faith they'll be able to pull it off.

Hopefully, they don't get the ol'Benning blinders on in terms of a target and vastly overpay. Everything should be about maximimizing asset value.

Lafreniere would have been a 90-100pt player in the mid 2000s but he's just too slow for the modern NHL. He also tends to really be a non factor when he loses motivation. Another slowish streaky 40-60 point winger is not what this franchise needs.

The Dach part is interesting to me as I thought maybe that was a potential reason for the Isles/Canucks talk at the draft as they were looking to move some picks/players around to get involved there with the Isles/Montreal/Chicago deals.

As for Lafreniere, he's definitely someone worth taking a chance on. I wonder if Kuzmenko could be interesting for NYR, though I really haven't followed their situation closely.

I see Lafreniere right now having value similar to Nils Lundqvist when he got moved - a mid to late first round pick. He hasn’t put it together, but he still has enough potential and has shown enough flashes to garner interest.

I don’t think the Canucks should trade Horvat for him 1 for 1, but Lafreniere would be an intriguing part of a return for him if the Canucks do that.

Laf is a middle 6 winger who isn’t fast.

If it wasn’t for his former agent working for the Nucks, doubtful there’s any connection.

Any team should only give up a similar age player or late 1st/2nd.

But knowing the Nucks they will overpay and he will be crap.

He should fit right in Laf-Mill-Boes

Lafreniere is kind of an odd target considering everything we've heard is that they have prioritized C and RD. As a depreciating asset (he's also an upcoming RFA) the rest of the trade package would have to be elevated for me. That's assuming it's a Horvat trade.

They were going to be in sell mode, I think. I don’t think we have much that would interest them, even with their injuries.
I thought that too, but they were stupid enough to re-sign binnington. so hopefully they have leadership like our ownership.

Laf and kakko are going to be better outside of ny
I wouldn’t trade Horvat or Miller with those two guys as the primary return. They aren’t good and likely won’t be good enough to make a difference night to night

I would probably rather re-sign Horvat than trade him for Lafreniere. I wonder if Drury looks at his team and thinks the window is closing within the next two years and they should just go for it with JT Miller :)

Laff would have way more value, having played a lot more NHL games, looked a lot better at times, and been a much higher picker (rightly or wrongly that matters).

I haven't watched any NY games this year, I like him in last years Playoffs thought he was a line driver.
