He's shown he has amazing shooting/finishing abilities, decent skater, and isn't afraid to get physical, everything else seems average to me. Looking like a possible top 10 for sure.

Hockey IQ seems average? Hands seem average?

How is he average? He is far above average for a 17 year old in everything.

Too bad JYP doens't have any playmakers on their roster, he could score so much more with better players around him.

Great offensive instincts (i.e. being in the right place at the right time) combined with great shooting seem to be his best qualities. I will have to watch more. Based on limited viewing, he reminds me of Eberle.

2nd in league scoring now with 6+3 in 8 games.
And number one in goals. Has this kind of situation ever existed in Liiga before with 17 year olds? Of course the season is still very young, but anyway a very exciting start to his season!

Better motor and much stronger core and legs than Eberle had at the same age. Also a better shot. But otherwise I guess some similarities. I see more similarities with Pastrnak and Aho. A bit of a hybrid of those two in my opinion.

I think those two are more dynamic than Kemell, but again, I haven't watched him that much.

I always compare players how they were at the same age. In my opinion he is pretty much as dynamic as Aho or Pastrnak were when they were around 18 years old. Kemell seems to me exactly very dynamic for an under 18 year old at Liiga level.

Haven't seen any amazing playmaking from Kemell so far, not that he's had much opportunity. His line does not have the puck much 5v5. Basic, hard accurate passes. Pretty good saucers too.
I agree definitely with all here. But I think this is very clearly also his role at the moment. To me his passing looks exactly how you described. Nothing extremely special, but sharp and accurate passing usually, and he seems to rarely make bad and forced passes. His timing seems good and also I like how he usually sees his open teammates well at the right time, and usually gives well timed and accurate passes. But of course he has the shoot first-mentality, which he should honestly have with his shooting skills, so it can mean that sometimes he is not passing in situations that some other players would probably usually pass.

Sure, he is pretty dynamic for a smallish 17-year old in a pro league and I laud you both for your excellent memory and for comparing players with how they were at same age, but I must say that I have no recollection on how Eberle looked as a 17-year old. I came to the Eberle comparison by looking at Kemell and thinking how would his skillset work in the NHL in a few years if all goes well. Anyway, he seems like a very good prospect and I think he will go pretty high if things continue to go his way.

As I've seen all of his games in the Liiga, a JYP fan that I am, maybe I should give my 217 cents here too about Kemell. Although only 9 games played (one last season) and as it might be too early to say, I still think I've got some picture of what we're dealing with.

First of all, as a 17-year-old that he is, it's obvious but still worth the reminder: he's a young player who plays with grown men. Fun fact: it doesn't look like it. The level of confidence he has is pretty amazing, even though he does make some forced plays and small mistakes here and there. Until now these mistakes haven't been costly, and the plays that do go well usually improve the game. His passes are kinda fun to watch, reminds me of Teuvo Teräväinen when he was younger and playing in Liiga. They're in a way effortless and more suited to beer leagues, the difference being that Liiga is not (yet, one might argue) a beer league. And most importantly, he does not(!) always force the plays or try to make some nifty moves, it's only occasional. He's got great hands, shows that he's been playing in the outdoors as well.

There's room to improve his skating. He's not a bad skater, quite the contrary, but once again, it's more relaxed and effortless. However, he uses his sliding (sorry I don't know hockey terms that well in English) optimally so technically he's a pretty good skater. He needs more strength, which is not a surprise due to his young age.

Although not the biggest or strongest guy in the rink, he's not afraid to use his body. He finishes the checks and is ready for reverse hits as well. He's said himself that he admires Ovechkin, and likes his style of play.

Defensively he looks sometimes out of place. Nothing major, and the fact that heavily rejuvenated (and some say, weakened) JYP isn't exactly the perfect team to show flashes of greatness defensively, plays a role as well.

Lastly, the reason why he wears the golden helmet (yes, we know, it's a stupid tradition) as the best scorer in JYP. His shot is fast, accurate (that is: deadly), and timing near perfect. In this sense he's a lot like Laine. He likes to shoot a lot and even from difficult positions, and for a goal scorer that's the way it goes. Simply, give the puck to Kemell and something good is going to happen.

I think it's hilarious to look at him in the D zone. He's not awful or detrimental at all, but literally out of place in that he defends where he pleases. Front of the net? Sure. Either side? Ok. Center? Yeah why not. The effort is there, but maybe too much sometimes.
