As I've seen all of his games in the Liiga, a JYP fan that I am, maybe I should give my 217 cents here too about Kemell. Although only 9 games played (one last season) and as it might be too early to say, I still think I've got some picture of what we're dealing with.
First of all, as a 17-year-old that he is, it's obvious but still worth the reminder: he's a young player who plays with grown men. Fun fact: it doesn't look like it. The level of confidence he has is pretty amazing, even though he does make some forced plays and small mistakes here and there. Until now these mistakes haven't been costly, and the plays that do go well usually improve the game. His passes are kinda fun to watch, reminds me of Teuvo Teräväinen when he was younger and playing in Liiga. They're in a way effortless and more suited to beer leagues, the difference being that Liiga is not (yet, one might argue) a beer league. And most importantly, he does not(!) always force the plays or try to make some nifty moves, it's only occasional. He's got great hands, shows that he's been playing in the outdoors as well.
There's room to improve his skating. He's not a bad skater, quite the contrary, but once again, it's more relaxed and effortless. However, he uses his sliding (sorry I don't know hockey terms that well in English) optimally so technically he's a pretty good skater. He needs more strength, which is not a surprise due to his young age.
Although not the biggest or strongest guy in the rink, he's not afraid to use his body. He finishes the checks and is ready for reverse hits as well. He's said himself that he admires Ovechkin, and likes his style of play.
Defensively he looks sometimes out of place. Nothing major, and the fact that heavily rejuvenated (and some say, weakened) JYP isn't exactly the perfect team to show flashes of greatness defensively, plays a role as well.
Lastly, the reason why he wears the golden helmet (yes, we know, it's a stupid tradition) as the best scorer in JYP. His shot is fast, accurate (that is: deadly), and timing near perfect. In this sense he's a lot like Laine. He likes to shoot a lot and even from difficult positions, and for a goal scorer that's the way it goes. Simply, give the puck to Kemell and something good is going to happen.
