No one is claiming that Kemell will likely get past Wright, so calm down. Maybe even you could sometimes praise Kemell’s play and how special he is a talent? So far I have seen you practically only belittling him as a player. If you ever say anything even remotely positive about him, there is always a ”but” in the same sentence.

Too bad if you had some other players as your favorites in this draft and now Kemell has clearly passes them with ease. Just get over it and get rid of your bitter feelings, and start acknowledging How good Kemell really is. Because if you just keep finding those ”but” and trying to bring it down how Kemell is playing, you won’t do any favors to how your understanding of the game really is.
I'm not bashing Kemell at all lol, quite the contrary, i mean i've been saying for a while that he looks like a surefire top 10, i've praised his strenghts that he has but he needs to show more playmaking abilities for me to be convinced he's gonna go higher than top 5.

You never have practically anything good to say about him. Good shot, just decent everything else, and yaddayaddayadda… It is very telling, you know.

I have to agree. Of course it is still highly unlikely to happen, that he would get picked before Wright. I could see it still happen, if he scores over 30 goals in the regular season, has strong WJC and gets even picked to Finland’s WHC team in the springtime. All this to happen is not really that likely, but if it would happen after all, I could see him even picked as 1st, if the right kind of team happens to pick 1st.

Wow this is the type of hyperbole I come to expect on these boards.

There is zero chance he gets selected before Wright unless something catastrophic happens to Wright.

Right now he is pushing for a case in the top 10 and other prospects in NA have just begun their seasons so let's see how it develops.

For what it's worth he is ranked between 7 and 15th on the top prospect forecasts that I could find.

I think you are quite much underestimating the level of Liiga as a pro league, and what scouts are still thinking about if an only 17 year old does something at the level he is doing in Liiga right now. Do you even understand that he is exceeding what Barkov and Laine did in Liiga at the same age, and they both were after all number two picks in good drafts. If Kemell continues at this level of play until the end of the season, there is absolutely no chance that he isn’t picked at least as number two in his draft. And in that scenario there could definitely be even a slight chance for him to be picked as even number one. But that would most probably mean that he would have to have played in same top level tournaments as Wright and to have been there clearly better than Wright. As I have said before, not a likely scenario really. But if Kemell can really continue playing at this level for the rest of the season, there is absolutely no chance that he isn’t picked at least as 2nd. But most likely he can’t play the whole season consistently like this, so lets see what happens after all.

I will wait and see what happens but the 22 draft is too strong at the center position for him to go #2 regardless of points or production, NHL teams are projecting for the NHL and aren't going to put a ton of stock in the first full season at the tail end of the Coivid pandemic.

No I do not think that Kemell is as good a prospect as Barkov and Laine were at the same stage either.

No chance he doesnt get picked 2nd? Smallish winger and isnt really a playmaker, he's very good scoring goals and positioning himself but idk man i think you should take off your blue white glasses abit :)

I think it never stops before Finland gets their first number one draft pick lol.

I hope that never happens though because I don't want a very good Finnish player to go into a historically bad NHL team. Most teams drafting in top five are generally perpetual failures

Too bad too sad he's (Kemell) too small and not Canadian.

So, after 11 games, Kemell is leading the Finnish Liiga in goals and points. 11 games, 9+4. Three of the goals are winning goals. His greatest asset is his shot, but there is so much more to him than just the obvious stats. I have seen every game of him on the Liiga (12) and here are some observations. And I warn you, this may sound like a fanboy exaggeration, but hear me out.
  • Skating - yeah, he skates well. Maybe not the fastest always, but quite okay. Oh well, today he was the fastest skater on the game against KalPa Kuopio.
  • Passing - hard, fast passes. Also, nice saucer passes, no problem there. And even if he loves the puck, he is not afraid to give it to someone else, if it benefits the game.
  • Shooting - that shot is a laser. It's ridiculous. Whether it be a slapshot or a wrister. I hope someone will make a youtube video soon of his goals.
  • Shooting - 60 shots is 11 games. Today he shot the puck 9 times. He can shoot from very different positions, one of his goals was a shot while falling down.
  • Physical play - this surprises me maybe the most. He delivers many hits in every game, but he also can take one. For a 17-year-old, it's remarkable. He stays in balance and gives nice counterchecks. However, he stays out of boards, letting others do the work there.
  • Defensive abilities - oftentimes he's been the one falling back when a defender has rushed to the attack. He reads plays very well and seems to make the right decisions most of the time
  • Humility, in a good way - he plays for the team, goes to the bench when needed, keeping his shifts short. One game this week, when he had just scored 3-2 leading goal on the last moments of the game, he was put to the rink for the last minute. During that time he went and blocked two shots.
  • There are numerous moments of brilliance in every game so far, small dekes, easy passes, great positioning, backchecking, or physical play. Even without the ridiculous amount of points, he would be a great asset to the team.
  • Winning, personal effort. Hockey is a team game. But Kemell makes the team so much better now. JYP Jyväskylä was generally considered to be the worst team in the league, but right now they are at 6/15. Much thanks to this young man.

Of course, there are areas he can improve in his game. I just can't think of any. Maybe @MiroPRKL could point those out.

Can't wait to see him at the U20 games, when is put up against players almost his age.

PS. Lambert has been better this season than the last (which was abysmal for the whole team), but Kemell is (at the moment) way better.

Good post. I can say that from the few games i have watched i've gotten the impression that he isn't that dynamic when it comes to vision/playmaking like i said before but is definetally not a weakness neither, but he could improve there.

Alex Debrincat is 171cm. Seems to do just fine.

Seriously dont understand why people bring up size. If there was someone with similar skill set and as good as Kemel then it would matter.
