I might be wrong, but I wouldn't be shocked if Chytil went on a nice run in the second half of the season.
I’m kind of expecting it, I think the struggles he’s had have been mostly due to getting used to the pace of the NHL and they’ve been kind of easing him into things, but I don’t think he’s played poorly at all. Once the Rangers sell off a few guys he’ll have a bigger role to hopefully flourish in

I find this concept of a teenager getting limited minutes in the NHL while he gets used to the speed and play of the game before putting him back up onto a top line (against the literal best in the world, peak physical condition athletes) where he might produce points to be an absolute masterstroke by a team and coach trying to develop players :sarcasm:

Seriously folks, he was on a bottom line for less than 10 games. People need to learn how to contextualize and calm the hell down.

He scored a good goal where he put himself in good position to bury a rebound into a wide open net. He wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire the rest of the game but since a rebound went to him he has justified everyone impatiently baying to put him on a higher line for the sake of producing points.

Never mind the rest of his game, the possibility that he needed a reduced workload to give his mind time to process things better against scrubs or the possibility that he may have even been banged up after taking some vicious hits earlier in the year. Nah. Points. need points. This teenager needs points and can't afford a reduced role for 5 or 6 games in an 82 game season or he'll bust!

He’s looked good again tonight and like others have said, 3 goals in 3 games without McLeod on his wing

Edit-dominant game by Chytil so far, been everywhere

Amazing what a kid with this talent can do with competent linemates. He would have twice as many points (at least) if he wasn't buried on the 4th line most of the season.

he needs to work on his shot like Pettersson and Pastrnak did in the off-season

if his shooting is elite then he absolutely has elite 1c potential

For sure. He has a quick release but shoots it into the goalies chest half the time or shoots it low. Gotta add some velocity and power to the shot and if he does that I’d be surprised if he didn’t end up a 1C

The MSG broadcast team mentioned that his gf is still in high school!!!! Lol holy shit was that so weird to hear.

I voted him as one of the teams top three stars of the game twice early in the season but around game 5 he started to look lost. He stopped making plays, was losing the puck like crazy, hadn't scored and it was clearly getting to him. He also took some VICIOUS shots as a result of having his head down.

Quinn gave him that reduced role. Tons of people started complaining. But look at what it did for him! I strongly suspect that he was given an opportunity to work on several aspects of his game in practice and on the ice. They likely broke down and simplified his role so he could start doing little things right.

Doing those little things boosts confidence. That confidence then clears the cobwebs so now that he's back on a higher line, he can go do his thing.

I suspect the team will start to drop off a bit soon but the development and style of play I'm seeing is fantastic.

It’s not that bad considering he just turned 19 but yeah still weird to think about

We drafted him and last year when he was 17 so I wasn't surprised, it made sense for sure. But it's like...an NHLer is dating a high school girl. The number of times that's been true is probably lower than...(good metaphor not found)...than a really low number.

Quinn's an idiot. Only reason Chytil is succeeding now is because Zucc got hurt and Quinn was forced to push Chytil up the lineup. I'm going to be very very interested to see how they handle things when Zuccarello comes back.

Well, he just turned 19. At that age he could still be in high school. Secondary education in most EU countries starts around 12 or 13 and ends when you're between 16 and 19, depending on which level of education in high school you achieve. Gymnázium level is 6 years.

His shot sometimes reminds me of Rick Nash late years with the Rangers. Hopefully he will develop more in that aspect.

He'll be in the top 6 when Zucc comes back. What happens when Zucc and Buch are both back? Thats the point where you can't hand a free top 6 place to a bottom sixer like Namestnikov or Vesey and fit everyone in.

I also think Quinn has handled Chytil wrong all season. He stumbled into Chytil's current success. I think they were ready to send him down before realizing top 6 wing was going to find him success. He was never going to have success centering the fourth line with two non-NHL'ers. Skilled rookie forwards should not have to be the best player on their line. Top 6 center is hard for a rookie. He'll score more points than the fourth line, but the defensive game might be too big of a challenge. Putting him with guys who play a skill game and are going to get him some free points is the way this should've been handled from the start of the season. Chytil and Howden are having success. Now we just need to get Andersson away from McLeod. Why is he on the fourth line when we have Strome, Fast, Vesey, Namestnikov in the top 9?

Yea...HE'S the idiot. The way he helped Chytil regain his game when Chytil was starting to look lost. Real idiotic. Just leave a teenager on a top line against the best in the world and allow him to keep eating massive hits and get fed on when he's overwhelmed. That'd be absolutely brilliant.

A demotion means he had to have been getting top minutes. Why wasn't he performing then? Looked good in a few early games but started to take vicious hits and look lost.

Like I said, kid needed a reduced workload, he got it, it was the right move and he's producing now to back that up.

He's a teenager. He will have periods of struggle and success all year. He will need limited roles from time to time.

I also think Quinn has handled Chytil wrong all season.

That's a big f***ing surprise

That sounds familiar
