Are we going to give him more opportunities to do so? Because 20-25 ES points out of a guy who starts in his own end 80+% of the time, and is not exactly given offensively inclined linemates to help him generate more offense, is pretty damn solid.
Well, that’s the thing. He needs to provide more since he is getting paid more-close to 50% more.

The thing I'm most curious about his his intended role.

Shutdown line?
Defensive conscience to help cover for an old fashioned "energy" 4th line?
Part of rebuilt 2 line bottom 6 with a cohesive identity?

About 500K more than I was expecting. Some nights though he worked harder than any of "the core"

Bradley, aim higher though next time.

Single best bottom sixer we have. PK's, plays shutdown minutes with terrific defense, and can chip in offense from time to time. You can't commit to many players in your bottom six, but Kampf is exactly the one that you do. Great to see him in a Leafs jersey the next four years, and at a reasonable dollar figure as well.

I’m not a real fan of Kampf, but maybe it’s because he doesn’t stand out in any particular area to me.

I guess he’s a very good defensive center, but I’m more partial to bottom six players who bring physicality to the table.

I’ll wait to see how everything shakes out before getting too invested in this signing.

One thing I'll give Kampf is that having an excellent faceoff guy on the PK is helpful. I think his sort of specialization would have been sought after as a UFA.

That said, I hope this isn't a preview of what's to come and that the reporting on Kerfoot also working toward a deal is not that accurate. We need some goal scoring from our depth and it isn't coming from those two guys.

I like this but obviously a little rich. Holmberg and kampf should be a nice 2/3 of a fourth line. Add mccann to that and it’s solid

Not all their players scored or generated a ton of shots. Tampa gave 3.15M to Nick Paul for eternity.

Nick Paul actually impacts playoff games though. When he’s on his game, the opposing coach needs to plan around him. Nobody in the history or future of hockey has ever or will ever adjust their game plan because Kampf is playing out of his mind and started winning 55% of his faceoffs instead of his usual 51%.

The bottom 6 was pretty bad most of the year until Acciari showed up, and a big part of that was Kampf's massive limitations in transition and offensively. He needs linemates to break the puck out for him and keep plays alive, or he's going to constantly play in the Leafs' end shift after shift

I like the Kampf signing, but this is a good point. He needs to be paired with a puck mover/line driver type to be the most effective.

So we got Kampf and Jarnkrok in our bottom 6 and Freidge says Tre wants to add "heavier" players in our bottom 6. He's got 4 spots left to add those types of players. Acciari, Reaves, Perry, Watson, Woods ??

He didn't this past playoffs. Kampf had more points. But yes I agree, Nick Paul is a better player, but he's paid more and with a lot more term.

I'm not thrilled with the extension. It's just OK. But to be saying this is a horrible extension and to lament as if this is the end of the world is really exaggerating the situation. He's a solid player and you know what you're getting.

Don't hate the player at all - he's very good at what he does. But his is very limited.

I just feel a team cannot commit significant resources on someone who looks to be signed as the #3C, but has zero offensive acumen when the Leafs major issue most of the time is secondary scoring.

What was identified as needs at this past deadline? A #3C (to upgrade on him), a physical, bottom 6 player (which he isn't) and D.

Looks like this might be the blueprint for every trade deadline.
