I mean it is less than 2.5. 2.4.

I’d say about $400K overpaid. But we bought some term when the cap should go up.

The team is offensively challenged playoff after playoff save for the rare oddity where they get all their offense out in one game.

I don't think paying an offensive black hole at 4C is particularly great when we have cap issues. Give me Accari over Kampf any day

I like that Treliving identified the most vital UFA to re-sign and did it. I may not be as thrilled if he re-signs Kerfoot.

Wonder what Acciari is gonna get on the open market. If it’s less than this I’ll be really pissed.

It almost certainly will be.

Acciari is turning 32 this year. He has had some injuries already. He is slow and his ability to play center becomes more and more questionable as the years pass.

Kampf's deal ends when he is 32. Kampf was getting more money and term than him. I figure Acciari is looking at a 2 year deal in the 1.75-2 mill range. Similar to what I'd expect for Hathaway, but Hathaway may get a little bit more money and term from someone desperate enough (including possibly us).

Sorry Nylander, we only have 8.8m for you. You want 9.5? TOO BAD.

Kampf, buddy, here's an extra 1.5m so you can...kill penalties at an ok rate.
This is the problem I have with it too. That or take the 3.5M from Kerfoot and this extra 1.5 and get a decent LW to add some scoring depth.

I'm not too bothered by $2.4M AAV for David Kampf. It's a little more than I'd like to pay, but he was likely getting something starting with a 'two' on the open market.

Curious what, if anything, this means about signing O'Reilly as our third line center.

There are like 2 centers available as UFAs. There's a clear misunderstanding that Kampf is a 4th liner despite being 7th on forwards in terms of TOI/G because he PKs a ton and plays with a lead. He's also a gym rat and rarely ever gets injured. Find me a pending UFA right now that can replace Kampf at a fraction of the price and I will eat my words.

I'm all for skill and maximizing cap space but I really don't see how this is an issue. He got a 900k raise and is signed through likely the bulk of his prime.

We all want more speed and more forechecking... Kampf brings both. I'm really confused by some of the lamenting posts. What am I missing here?

Just how Colorado/Tampa/Vegas/Florida all built there teams - a nice, low event style of play :ha:

I don't understand the negative comments. There's no chance we would be able to sign a better 3rd/4th line centre in Kampf's age group in free agency for less than a 2.4 million AAV on a long term deal.

Pretty much means Acciari and ROR won’t be back now.

Would rather have Acciari at that price than Kampf.

I don't think it means anything there. They have 12Mish in cap space left. They can bring both of them if they wanted to.

I think this deal indicates that ROR was asking for too much and he won't be back.

I agree. I’d take Acciari over Kampf easily. But if Kampf got $2.4 I’d assume Acciari will land at $3M+. Maybe even $3.5M.

I’d prefer either over Kerfoot so hopefully we don’t make that mistake.

In an ideal place, I'd prefer a harder more physical bottom 6 center but he's not soft, he'll take contact, and he doesn't take stupid penalties.

So maybe, if you squint, Nosek?

Not really a guy out there that is a true physical center depending on how you view Acciari.

Not all their players scored or generated a ton of shots. Tampa gave 3.15M to Nick Paul for eternity.

Kampf is a bit unique here as his average minutes tend to be more than what most 4th liners get. He's almost closer to a 3rd liner when it comes to atoi

Curious what a guy like Ross Colton will sign for in Colorado, just as a 4th line-ish guy with the capacity for more.

He proved he couldn’t carry the team in the playoffs, why re-sign him when they need 3 and 4 C who can score?

It's Treliving's first move, and it's far from the drama you're creating.
Nope. It's an overpay. On a 4th liner. And their next move is to resign Kerfoot.

Whooshed right on overhead, did it? Read the next part carefully.

It's for the people who couldn't see that Shanny makes all the calls - no matter who the GM is. But it is funny to see the pendulum swing the other way when suddenly overpayments framed as good deals based solely on the name of the GM.

The issue now becomes, what is he? Are we really paying a 4C 2.5 million while we have half the cap in 4 forwards? And if he is a 3C, is he magically finding enough offense to be good in that role?

I get wanting continuity in the bottom 6, but the AAV is too high for a player who can go 1/4th of the season without a goal. He literally had 2 SEPARATE stretches this season where he went 20+ games without one

I don't know? Nick Bjugstad maybe? Bjugstad's worse on draws, doesn't really have a long history as a defensive center (only seemed to start killing penalties last season) and he'll cost more. There isn't anything too exciting in place of the known entity Kampf.
