Willing to take a paycut??
Sounds like he is willing to do so on this next deal to ensure the team is in a position to win.

The problem I have is that we rip the core 4 for what they make, but I would much rather overpay ine of those guys than waste and extra $1.7M at the bottom of the roster when it really isn't needed. Kampf is pretty replacable.

Not a center but we got 20 goals out of Jarnkrok for the same money and enough people still want to get rid of him.

I don’t think it’s paying defensive guys as much as it is paying guys with no top tier stand-out qualities. If Kampf was a giant, or a dominant faceoff machine, or a huge hitter, that would be fine. Paying extra for slightly more vanilla-y vanilla seems bad at the competitive and fan entertainment level.

I mean he has won 52.2% of his draws in Toronto. 55%+ at ES. His PK faceoff ability was lacking this year, but was fine enough last year, and he was still like borderline top 50 in the NHL with most of the guys ahead of him being either elite players or players with deficiencies in pretty much every other area except faceoffs.

Defensive guys are wanted but never appreciated in Toronto. He was the best guy at what he did on the market by far, and clearly Treliving wanted a guy who could handle those kinds of responsibilities going forward. Now it opens up the options for our other spot to not have to be one of those likely overpriced options in UFA or on the trade market.

You’re potentially gonna overpay this weak 4C and by extension let Acciari walk instead? Good start Brad. You don’t pay 4th liners 2+ mil when you’re up at the cap and having to shell out raises to the stars and already have too much cap tied up in forwards

You're assuming that Acciari even wants to stay in Toronto.

Dubas signed him for 1.5 per year, two seasons ago when he hadn't play a game for us and had just come off a 1 goal 15 point season. He got a 1 million raise and people think Treliving sucks and Dubas rocks?

History has shown us that we aren't going to pay these incredibly rich contracts to our top guys and low ball the low guys and get away with it. If you want to keep a player you already know is good, you have to pay. Can't keep losing these valuable players (Hyman, Mikheyev, Kampf) and go into the bargain bin and hope to get lucky.

Wow. Treliving sucks because Kampf got a whole 500-750 K too much?

He is making 25% more than he should.

He is for sure overpaid.

It's not terrible, but Treliving has overpaid A LOT of UFAs recently, it is not a good start.

What was he the best at?

Other teams like Colorado acquire a guy like Ross Colton for their bottom 6. We get a re-signed, overpaid David Kampf to play his no hitting brand of hockey for ours.

It would be f***ing funny if it wasn’t so depressing.

The one redeeming thing is how Keefe runs lines and loads up. Kampf gets a little more TOI because we need a reliable C after we throw out Nylander/Matthews/Marner. We just need a shift where nothing happens to let the top players rest.

You're assuming that Acciari even wants to stay in Toronto.

He is also very slow, which I figured people wanted to get away from. Also question marks about whether he can even play center full time.

It's not even like this move precludes us from signing Acciari. He can easily fill a spot on either the shutdown line or the other line (depending on how it is composed) if the price is right. The guy probably should not be an every day center any more than Lafferty, so he was going to be a RW option regardless.

I feel like too many of you undervalue how Kampf has brought stability to our fourth line since he arrived. Haven't had a defensively sound bottom six forward like him since Jay McClement.

KD Cult has returned to hate every single move Treliving makes. Jesus...
And the "anyone but Dubas" apologists who can't see an idiotic 30% overpayment when they see one continue to blindly defend the new guy at all costs no matter how dumb a signing he makes.

He just ate up the cap increase on retaining 7 goals when secondary scoring is the issue.

I want our bottom 6 to know each other by the time the playoffs start. I don't want 5-6 new players to come in right before the playoffs.

The detractors have been waiting in the weeds for this. They will type anything at this point.

What about the player? Is he a bum? I don't think so.

Not wrong there. Does Keefe last 4 more?

Supposedly he would have been offered 3 million on the open market so hard to say if it is an overpayment

Means nothing... let him walk and someone else can overpay pay for him... 100% there has to be a better suited UFA 4th line C that could have been signed for near league minimum that would profile closer to the type of 4th liner we need 💪

So if Kerfoot can get 4 million on the open market, should the Leafs offer 3.5 again because it's a discount???

It's f**kin' ridiculous that the Leafs spent 2.5 on Kampf regardless...

Treliving's next few moves better be golden or else I'm breaking those stupid ugly glasses of his 🤜🤓 lmao
