Maybe this is a sign O’Reilly is gone and Kampf is moving up to 3C and a Marlie graduating to 4C? It dosen’t seem like a bad deal at first glance.

I'm actually 100% fine with this.

He's excellent defensively, can pk. And is also capable of handing more minutes than most 4Cs. Leafs need more stability in their bottom six too, and this helps

Put differently, I think we tend to undervalue purely defensive guys. If we offered a similar contract to a one way offensive centre who scored like 35 points but terrible defensively most people wouldn't care as much.

Not a center but we got 20 goals out of Jarnkrok for the same money and enough people still want to get rid of him.

I don’t think it’s paying defensive guys as much as it is paying guys with no top tier stand-out qualities. If Kampf was a giant, or a dominant faceoff machine, or a huge hitter, that would be fine. Paying extra for slightly more vanilla-y vanilla seems bad at the competitive and fan entertainment level.

Love how everyone is a GM. "I would have done 2 not 2.5" ..ect.

Funny thing is.. maybe the player has a say in what he wants.

Leafs options are very limited with UFA and the Leafs cap.

Let's not forget everyone's favorite GM stripped mined all the prospects and picks from the system for one last hurrah then buggered out of here leaving this mess.

Fair enough. Personally I'm fine having a guy be able to eat up 8-10min of safe even strength time and then let the game be decided in the top six

lmao. People losing their shit over a possible 0.5M 0.4M over payment.

Just wait until we sign Matthews and Marner for more then they're worth.

Definitely an overpayment, but someone would’ve paid him more. Guess it’s what it took to keep him around. Not sure what other 4th line Cs were available.

I like to do a ledger for GM’s, so Keefe, now this over payment. 0-2 Brad.

And anyone saying 500000 too much isn’t a big deal, it is in a cap world, do a couple more of those and that’s a player. Every cent matters, period. And I guess this means RORi is gone and Kampf might actually be in the three hole.

So a 900K raise.

I guess it's not the end of the world but we're in a situation where we need every penny.

You’re potentially gonna overpay this weak 4C and by extension let Acciari walk instead? Good start Brad. You don’t pay 4th liners 2+ mil when you’re up at the cap and having to shell out raises to the stars and already have too much cap tied up in forwards

They could sign him and mix it up. Sometimes he plays in the top-6 on the wing with Matthews or at center with JT on the wing, sometimes he plays as the 3C and Kampf slides down to take care of 4C and PK duties.

I don't think Kampf at this cap hit rules out ROR's return.
