He's called 3 different guys MacKinnon tonight that weren't MacKinnon so far
Is it Romanuk?Also the D is a bit boring on NA tonight isn't it? Ekblad is the only one doing anything with the puck past the neutral zone and a bit of Gostisbehre on the PP. If they're gonna do that then might as well see Parayko.
For the life of me I can't understand why they split Nuge Drouin MacK. It was magic. McDavid Scheifele also worked so why separate? Wasn't his purpose experimenting to see which line combos click? I honestly am starting to feel like McLellan is truly overrated.

Eichel is deferring to teammates too much, that's not his game. He also passed up a perfect opportunity to shoot and score on the PP.

He doesn't play as well with two skilled/fast wingers.
McDavid is like Crosby, give him meat and potato wingers who can open up time and space for him.

Scheif and Matthews have been pretty much the most consistent players in the exhibition so far, so why not?

I'm baffled at some of the decisions.
I'll wait until the tournament starts before I judge, he's still juggling. Hopefully with time to analyze the film, he'll realize it.

Plus they bring a big bodied, power forward and puck possession game that meshes best with McDavid.

Its almost like he's playing in a pre-tournament game of a pre-season tournament. Who would have thought that players would have rust and might not have their timing down.

Two posts for Scheifele in the first game, another beauty open net setup for Saad or Miller in the first game. Couple nice setups to Eichel in prime scoring areas in the 2nd game.
But yeah, he needs to be better. Get him the right line mates and it'll click. He'll be just fine when it matters most like he always is.

McDavid seems afraid to get injured, I completely understand may I add, but he seems more hesitant than the guy we saw in the 1st game or last year. (He does need power forwards, seems like he plays a bit more aggressive then)
Eichel seems to be trying to play the role of a 2-way player and play more defensively sound. And for the most part he's done well, aside from his lack of flash and dash.
Matthews is playing with reckless abandon, he's not doing dumb stuff at that point, but will likely wear himself out as he seems to have the last two games as well. He starts off flying then slows as the game drags on. McEichel have a year under their belt hence are better at pacing themselves.

Even Miller or Saad would be good options. This benefits the team more too. Put Nuge and MacKinnon back together, they work excellent together.

Yes but see how easily Czechs is beating up this NA-U23 team...
1-0 after just one period, so you see Czechs will dominate and win this tournament easily !

I guess we're looking at it differently. It's not like they edged out Europe, they dominated them. The only time Europe ended up getting momentum was when Team NA had a 3+ goal lead and stopped trying. I don't think that will carry over to the actual tournament. Team NA is dominating the Czech's right now too, way better chances. Judging the games by performance, NA is up there with anyone. Yes, I agree, they played lesser teams, but what more can you expect than domination?
Czech's aren't winning this game. Since that fluke goal, it's been all Team NA.

Like I said, he's like Crosby, give him meat and potato wingers. His best hockey is played when he's got a power forward guy on his line. Guys like that open up the time and space to maximize his vision.
Yeah it seems like that's the crux of my observation when I said "he's not using them here". If you can find a post where I said McDavid is gonna suck or have a bad season cause of how he's playing in these exhibitions I'd love to see them.
