I'm going to guess that every team in the NHL has "talked about bringing Kane in".

GM: What would you think if we were to sign Evander Kane? His Agent reached out.
AGM: Good Lord, no
Coach: Oh, hell no
Captain: I do not want that guy in the locker room
GM: Ok, we won't make an offer, moving on.

There, they talked about him.
(Not saying that this is what the Caps or any other team did. It's just a spin the players agent would use to drive up demand.)

The Kane baggage doesn't factor into this question at all and if you separate your feelings for Kane from the analysis, this is not true. Hertl may be more impactful but not much more. We tend to forgive and forget the games Hertl does nothing in.

TBH Kane is a better player at his position than Hertl is at his, and cracks the top line on more teams than Hertl. Kane is a top 10 left wing.

You’re forgetting games where Kane does nothing. He can be streaky just like any other goal scorer and has had long stretches where he’s been invisible, including the last playoff run.

And the left wing to center comparison is silly. The center position is much more deep in this league.

Yet he is still one of the top players at his position and higher in the league than Hertl.

Position depth is why a top left winger is impactful. On many teams he will play with a better center than any the Sharks have.

They might want to have the covid border issue fixed at the same time as Kane's appeal on his contract termination

I would guess that the league will want to punish him, but not so much that it gets in the way of finding a gig and earning money again. Even his creditors would be on board with that

Depends which creditor. The bank that he owes money can only touch the $$ out what ever is the end result of the appeal over the termination of the contract not the new contract he gets with a future team unless the bankruptcy court allows it.

Wonder if it is Kane's ask that is holding up a move then. If he takes a cheap deal for this season to prove he's still the same player on the ice, it would really surprise me if there wasn't a line of teams wanting in on such a lottery ticket. Every team has a use for Evander Kane the player if he is inexpensive. Off the ice... well, certainly one can deal with that for less than half a season?

You know you see alot of people talking about Kane and all his baggage, I'm sure he comes with 2 bags but that is beyond the point. The problem is his issues became public. I can Guarantee there are alpt bigger POS in the NHL that have kept it under wraps for whatever reasons. Kanes issue was the casinos, and like they say the house always wins.....

It’s the casinos, the assaults, the breaking of Covid protocols, being a shitty teammate, point being, a lot more than just the casinos

Washington signing Kane would show how clueless the organization is when it comes to signing players. Leipsic is a huge example.

Was there even any red flags around Leipsic?
Because... Well, there's about 1490837 red flags around Kane.
