When was the last year ? I’m sure you can see the difference between owning / losing cash on a New York based team vs a team in Ottawa.

I’m well aware that some owners are willing to lose money. Ours is not - he’s willing (and only capable) to put in exactly what is provided.
Then fans shouldn’t take the blame. Can Melnyk prove that he’ll spend if the fans do? He isn’t exactly the most honest person out there. He’s known for accounting fraud ffs.

Melynk has proven for two years he will spend exactly what the fans put in. Here comes year 3. When he pockets $15 million I’ll be the first to point it out.

There is no evidence that he has ever pocketed any money beyond what a single player may make.

That’s not what I asked. Can he prove he’ll spend more if the fans do?

in 2017 we reached the end of the ECF and he got a big revenue boost from the Vegas extension. We literally did nothing to improve the team (Duchene trade was basically money-in-money-out).

Right now there’s more evidence that he won’t.

That’s not accurate. The sens operating profit is publicly available. Which year are you worried he took an excessive profit ?

He’s also paid out MacArthur’s, Healtley. Ryan’s , refinancing costs etc along the way. Look I don’t like the guy but you are not going to find him making any money off this team over his ownership here. If he sells it eventually for $400+ he will make some money. If he sells it as a bankrupt franchise again he won’t.

Feels like that a 2 way problem. Crappy owner, crappy fan base… both sides pointing the finger at each other.

I’m part of the fan base and I’m going to look at my own actions and stop pointing the finger at everyone else.
Nope, the fan base is just fine. And we're not pointing the finger at everyone else, just the one individual, unlike the one individual. If its a 2 way problem its an unnecessarily self inflicted one, like just about everything else that surrounds him. I used to post in Eugene's defense (not to the extent you do), surely I'm not alone, but that was a long time ago. The posts are there, look them up. He's not the owner I thought he was, and he's doing nothing to sway that opinion. I believe many Sens fans feel the same way.

Did you buy any 50/50 tickets ? How many tickets did you buy in 18-20?

Of course the cheap fan thinks he’s fine and it’s someone else’s fault. Those fans lose the team they chear for or get a league low player salary allocation.

I’d like a new owner too… recall NYI let Tavares walk. I think their are more owners interested in owning teams in NYI, Tampa, and ChicAgo than Ottberia.

Attracting ownership interest to Ottawa is every bit a challenging as attacking UFA’s to Ottawa. How many billionaires want to brag at their country club that they are flying into Ottawa by themselves to watch their hockey team play?

It doesn’t help when you can’t even get your fan bases to buy any tickets or support a little charity.
This is fabricated. Shocking.

Oh get off of it. It goes beyond 50/50 tickets.

This thread is the best. People feigning self flagellation for not buying 50/50 tickets to support the little engine that could charity, as a transparent way to extend the usual attack on the fans and the city as a whole. Lmfao.

The Senators launched a massively under capitalized charity during a pandemic that couldn’t keep its doors open for 5 months. 5 months and there people here who laughably would have you believe it’s because they didn’t sell enough 50/50 tickets. A general rule for a new charity is that it funded well enough at startup for a year of operations.

5 months. An NHL in house team charity couldn’t last 5 months.

...but sure, it’s the fans.

Simple question - how many did you buy ? How many 50/50 ? How many tickets ? You’re the one saying Ittawa fans are great.

We both know the answer but only one of us is calling Uncle Geener cheap.

I’m choosing to push back against the constant flow of anti Melynk crap around here. I don’t like the guy either but there is a lot more to our problems than him.

If just tired of people expecting him to run the club like they are owed some type of civic duty from him.

Did you buy any 50/50 tickets ? Did you buy any sens tickets ? The reason we don’t have money, lose players etc is because our fans don’t buy stuff.
You're not pushing back against anti Melnyk talk by accusing me of criticizing him when I did no such thing.

I did not buy any 50/50s this year, as I said I didn't see it notice them advertised. I'm also old school, so 50/50 just seems more like a live event thing for me, not something that comes to mind when I look to make donations. I did donate to other charities though, because I was exposed to their drives for donations. Do I regret not buying 50/50s? Not really, CHEO got its money from me, as did other charities I chose to support.

I don't know why the 50/50 didn't do well, maybe the Charity focused on promoting more efficient means like direct donations, or maybe tv ratings were terrible and nobody saw them. Asking how they went about promoting was just looking to understand why it didn't bring in more. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ottawa fans didn’t support it - maybe we were to busy running to our fridge for $1 Gatineau beer when the TV commercials aired.

I’m lucky - I can see my TV from my fridge.

Look, you're 'cleverly' disguised insult isn't going to change the fact that Melnyk is the type of person he is.

Not only that, but we're the reason Colin White was signed @ 4.75 for six years!!

Again with the Costco beer. I don't personally know anyone who gets their beer over there, perhaps you're projecting?

Fans are the reason every player is signed - the idea is to ice a lineup that will influence fans to pay money to attend games. It isn’t complicated. That pressure changes based on fan demand.

It is and it doesn't. But operating costs don't include servicing debt or taxes so it's not pure profit.
Right, but as I mentioned I’m bringing it up as it relates to fan spending.

If Melnyk is so tied up in debt expenses you can’t really put the blame on fans if they’re spending around league average.

Zero 50/50 … and fully admitted that I feel shame and guilt for it. I’m not the one criticizing Gener for being cheap for his charity failing.

I acknowledge that my actions led to the failing of this charity. I took more from the org than what I gave.

Then get off of everyone else's case. You're no different than the rest of the cheap fans in this situation.

Why didn't you buy? Did you see the adds? The tweets? What made you come to the dark side and not spend any money? Why weren't you supporting Eugene?
