I guess I need to round out my advanced stats game but when I see Brann on for far more opportunities for than against, specifically compared to all the D on the Senators I think that means he is doing quite well.

The team, for some reason, doesn't score when he is on the ice but not sure I can pin that on him and then he would have more points with a higher shooting percentage - save percentage for us working against him as well?
I did a relative one for Senators defenseman for you, to compare against teammates. Note- slide columns to right, as a lot more columns to see that don’t fit on page, click on column interested to sort the order.

Ok, Bran has better /60 rates for the following defensive metrics at 5v5.

CA
FA
SA
xGA
SCA
HDCA
Yes , they’re close though, even closer all strengths. Point being it not a huge difference as was stated. xGA / 60 relative 5 on 5 lowest (worst) on team.

All strengths doesn't work because Brannstrom plays more PK min, never use all strengths for a direct comparison it's useless.

I'm also not sure where you get the idea they are close enough, we'd be thrilled if the team shaved off 7 shots against a game, 8 scoring chances a game, or half an xGA a game.

Maybe deployment explains the difference, idk, aside from zone starts the comp doesn't provide any clarity there,

Rel stats also favour Brann

Not sure what the fascination with Brannstrom is personally.
I don't think there is a ton of fascination with Branny just that people have been saying he should be playing in the lineup for a few years now so its nice to see that.

he seems like a good player to have in your bottom pairing who can play up the lineup in a pinch.

Not sure how deployment is considered in these stats, one can look at home vs away, where coach can choose, but other than that I’m not sure.
Natural statrick doesn't do anything but zone starts for comparative stuff, you can on individual players see their toi with each teamate and each opposing player, but they don't boil it down into any QOC or QOT stats.

Edit: I think I may have misunderstood what you meant, rel stats don't consider deployment, it's just your metric on ice metric minus your off ice metric,

I think Brann has been playing really good this season.
He started the season amazingly offensively. Then he started playing poorly defensively, making major gaffes. But in the last couple of weeks, he's had a much quieter, stable game. He's been much better defensively.

Kinda reminds me of Mike Reilly's last season here. But obviously, Brann is younger and still has lots of room to grow.

I’ve been critical of him but he has been playing steady over the last few weeks. I still don’t think he develops into a top 4 dman but I hope I’m wrong.

I don't think he'll ever be a guy you can have as the guy on a top 4 line, but with the right partner I think he might be a good complimentary piece

I just feel like we need a different skill set than he offers so it won't happen here

No that’s what I meant, probably wasn’t that clear on the deployment part, when discussing the relative … part.

Appreciate you doing that.

Did I just see a bunch of stats that show Brann is doing quite well relative to our team? Leading or in top 2 for many?

Also see he has the worst save % when on the ice.

Overall that just reinforced to me that he isn't early as bad as some are making it seem.

Also, because he has been around so long I think people forget he is young and has lots of time/room to continue to improve.

Not sure what the fascination with Brannstrom is personally.
Shitty start to season, scapegoat with people ready to defend and boom - something to talk about.

Kudos to him he isn’t getting crushed by bigger forwards anymore which leads to less turnovers.

Defensively he is a much more quieter player in a good way. Skates the puck out of the defensive end with ease and a good first pass.

Still think it’s best for both sides if he gets a trade. There is only one puck and Sanderson and Chabby are gonna eat the minutes on the left side. There has to be a team in the league that is looking for someone in the back end who can be the guy moving the puck for them and I think Branny can be that guy on another team.

At the end of the day he needs to put up some points though, somehow.

I like Branny, but he needs to add an element or he’s likely to be replaced by a more physical defender who also doesn’t produce points.
