Like father, like son. William is as determined to waste his potential as much his father the Swedish Gretzky was. Insane skill but it's starting to get harder to believe he's going to put it all together consistently at some point. Still young though and has time
I believe either a player has the internal drive to always give it his all, or he doesn't. It's not something that he can develop, and I don't believe Nylander has it, nor will he ever.

Fact is Nylander has been on the ice for a total of 6 goals at even strength this year.

Can't call it luck, or it negates the point that he has just been unlucky in the past few games scoring. He has hit the post twice, was robbed tonight, set up Kerfoot, Hyman, Tavares and Muzzin who all didn't finish.

He's awful
Hitting the post is missing the target.Just saying.;)

Honestly, 0.901 isn't good enough if you have aspirations larger than finishing over Montreal and Edmonton. If the goal is a cup, Andersen won't cut it in my opinion.

We fans are short term minded, but it's been a long time since I felt Andersen and Rielly were truly performing to their position as top pairing D and starting G. Unless our offence can be historically good, it will be very hard to overcome these two realities.

You could be right. I am taking an eternal optimist approach this season.

I hope thwy continue to build on the 200ft game they are trying to play over the next 40 games and somewhat master it to help shelter Freddie in the playoffs.

Tavares has been a bigger problem than Nylander when it comes to the 2nd line.

I'm convinced Freddy is the biggest problem on the team right now.
Yeah right now Tavares and Andy are the issues. You would think people would learn from past years on Nylander, he has this stretch where he is just there, but then Nylander starts playing fantastic again. They just focus on Nylander because of who he is.

I think many of us were very disappointed with last night's game and when that happens we tend to focus our attention on a few players that have been lightening rods for our discontent. I think if some of us begin to understand that players like Nylander, Andersen, Rielly, and Tavares are not elite, then the hyperbole will be tempered. We only have two elite players, Matthews and Marner. It's up to Keefe to find that 3rd line centre that will create some productivity from the third line. Perhaps try Spezza there for a 3 game stretch. In any case, Andersen and Nylander have shown inconsistencies in their games that will not disappear because they are who they are, i.e. not elite.

I ain't even that worried about Nylander. We've all seen he can take his game to another level.

I'm really not sure why this thread has Nylander and Freddy lumped together, seems strange.

Agreed.
He's only lumped in because of his personal dislike for WN. His description was hilarious about him.

Only if you think his talent has suddenly vanished. It sure isn't reason to panic. Players have cold spells all the time, it's part of the sport.
But Nylander is one season removed from having an entire 54 game season "cold spell". Other than his 4 game hot start, he's looked a lot like that Nylander this year. It's a legitimate reason for concern.

This the problem that I have with Nylander and he is not elite. This is what I am getting at.

The first and second period of yesterdays game was the worst JT had looked in a Leaf jersey. I noticed a big difference in his play in the third.

As for Nylander, I thought his last 2 games were mediocre. Forget the couple scoring chances, it's about all the small missed plays to keep the puck or win a puck battle. Yesterday was one of those game where he refused to engage along the boards and was looking for the puck to come to him. Games like those he needs to get into the dirty area's a lot more. I absolutely hated the play where Hyman did the dump from his side of the Leafs blue line, but Nylander who was almost side by side 2 sens on the Sens blue line refused to chase down the puck to avoid an icing. It was LAZY. He is a great winger, he just goes through these lulls of lack of interest in hard work.

Shocking that JT plays much less than Marner and is still up there in giveaways. Must have had like 10 last game.
Ohhh did he ever. He looks completely frustrated playing with Nylander. Just sayin. Nylander is in the softest ice all the time. No support coming for Tavares in tight quarters. Nylander is as far away from the dirty areas as he can get. I hate the f*** out of Nylander right now. Yellow streak in him longer than the stripe on a Mounties leg

Hes currently on pace for 61 points......

A pace 10 less than last year. Worthy of critique but let's not exaggerate things

His anomalous hold out year? I mean he was almost a point a game last year. This is what irrational panic sounds like. He has 12 points in 16 games....

Nylander has been fine, Andersen is a sorry excuse of a goaltender. No interest in bringing this guy back, we have a better chance with Campbell in net.
