Something is not right between 91 and 88. If Keefe knows something we do not, split them up.

Hyman JT Soup
Engvall Kerfoot Nylander

Otherwise with 6 games in 9 nights I would give JT a load management day Wednesday and let him watch from the pressbox. If Willie does not pick it up, I would let him sit for the Thursday game.

A great man once said "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

If you don't take a shot, it's not a shot. So you can't miss on a shot you don't take cause its was never a shot :) So Wayne although trying to sound smart and we all know what he meant, he's wrong. #jocksmarts

One thing I noticed about JT is the game after he has a shitty game he is normally a beast. Lets hope my casual observation is accurate.

There's no shit to figure out for Taveras. He has alot of heart and determination. The issue with him is lack of speed. The speed of the game has caught upto him. At best he has average speed. The game is getting quicker, new players coming in are getting faster. Whats concerning is the Leafs will be stuck with the contract for another 4 more seasons.

You can be a slow player if you move the puck quickly.

I'll bet JT was thouroughly embarassed by that giveway. I hope Willy is not happy about not having a point in his last 5 games and they both get the monkey off their backs.

Nylander elite? Lol. This guy disappears more than David Coppefield or for the younger crowd David Blaine

Nylander elite is becoming a joke but his fan boys can believe what they want to believe. Here is a dose of reality. Barrie 14 points in 17 games (0.82 PPG). Willie 12 points in 16 (0.75 PPG). About time we stop using the word star or elite for his soft, skilled, disappearing act.

There is no question Nylander had a big breakout year last year. It just makes it that much harder to understand. You're playing in the NHL, have a little pride.

First time post, long time lurker. I think the attitude about Nylander on here is generational. The young posters, the gamers, see flash and a high skill level and immediately think "star". The older more grizzled people (me) know it takes a certain amount of skill for sure but also a good player needs intangibles like courage, tenacity, desire, leadership, a strong will to win. In my opinion Willy lacks, significantly in those area's. Sure once in a while he does display a seeming passion to play hard and win, on those occasions he is a very solid NHLer and an asset to the team. I like him on those nights. That is about 20% of the time. The remaining 80% he is essentially a passenger. You dont win with the Willy Nylanders, its just a fact. 50 years of doing this is a great resource to formulate this opinion. You should be able to flip him for some strong assets and that is what I would do, probably in the off season (unfortunately)
Exactly! This was the whole purpose of my post about Nylander. I was not trying to bash Nylander. It’s just what I noticed ever since he came into this league. We need players with that drive to win and to sacrifice for the team to win. We need more emotion out of players who hate to lose and who do care. Look at Point in Tampa. He carried his team when it mattered in the playoffs. Pastrnak shows up when it matters. Problem with Nylander is I see too much coasting and not enough determination to get the puck and not enough winning of puck battles. He gives up far too easily or he gets knocked off the puck to easily. He is not playing like other star players who show what it takes to win.

As an outsider (Bruins fan) I never really got the hate for Andersen (then again I don't understand why Bruins fans seem to hate Rask). Since 2018 Andersen has faced the 3rd most shots at 5v5 as well as the 6th most HD shots at 5v5 and the 2nd most rush attempts. While his HDGSAA is awful, I have to wonder how much of the issue is Andersen and how much is Toronto's defense. Looking for guys that have shown to be able to face a lot of shots and HD Shots while still having positive GSAA and HDGSAA isn't easy. I tried to just look at guy that I thought would be available (Gibson would be perfect for TOR, but ANH isn't going to deal him). Here are the guys I came up with:

Darcy Kuemper - IDK if ARZ would move him, he has another year left on his deal and they could be the #4 in that division aka a playoff spot.

Ben Bishop - Not really for this year, but DAL had Dobby locked up and Oettinger looks like he's capable of being the #2. Bishop is signed for 2 more years after this season.

Jordan Binnington - Another one that would probably be next year as STL is in the hunt, however Binny is a UFA after this season. Cap may not work

Andersen is a great goalie when he is on his game. But there are times when the leafs are playing an awesome game defensively he allows a really soft goal like a bad angle shot. That really deflated team morale and for some reason the leafs pretty much lost the game because of that. Or when we have multiple goal lead, the other team is allowed to come back because Andersen is not making the big stops to keep the other team from gaining momentum and as a result its game over for the leafs like last night. If Andersen comes through with big saves consistently at the right time then I wouldn’t have an issue with Andersen.

I don't think Nylander has been bad, but he's definitely capable of being better.. He's carrying the puck fine but needs to shoot more. What happened to all the goals from in-tight? I also want him to be lackadaisical with the puck on his stick less often. He'll probably always be a bit on the soft side in some ways, but if he can bring back the goal scoring and go to the net more often to get goals, I'll be satisfied.

Tavares needs to be better as well. Seriously. The guy has one ES goal all year. He's making a lot of money.

I think you run into that with any goalie though don't you? They let in softies from time to time. Kind of speaks to the mentality of the team though if one bad goal pulls them out of a game, no? If Toronto moves on from Andersen I think they'll have a tough time finding someone that'll give the Leafs a better chance (outside of some of the guys I listed above).

That’s true. But our problem is that Andersen’s play has been declining and it is more frequent the last couple of years. He is being outplayed by goalies who are not suppose to be better than him. I think Rask is an awesome goalie. Wish the leafs had kept Rask. Rask would be a huge upgrade over Andersen.

Nylander's effort level was much better last night. That is true. It was a good sign. It was inconsistent but very good in spurts. He was trying to do too much by himself. Maybe he is getting frustrated with Tavares, but he can't beat the entire team alone too often. Lemieux couldn't do that very often.

This season overall can only be considered a big step backwards for him after last year. Only he can change it.

Nylander was average last night. Not very good, but not even remotely the problem. He's only in the title because OP doesn't like him. I love both JT and Freddy and I saw plain as day that they were the shitshows last night.

Love JT and seldom criticise him but he has been a turnover machine lately. I think he needs to sit out a game here and there; "load management". Rielly was at fault for allowing the Zub breakaway which started the ball rolling in the 3rd. You can't allow Zub to come out of the penalty box and have a breakaway in a 5-2 game.

Andy, gotta share some of the blame. Made a huge save to keep it tied at 5 but he can't seem to stop a breakaway in OT.

My optomalogist appt in June can't come soon enough. My eyes were bleeding watching that 3rd period ;) Sorry I goon

Don't bring Nylander into Freddy's weekly meltdown.
with all due respect, Willy is equally, if not more absent most games than Freddy. Luckily for us he does not play as important of a position. Highly talented player that is unwilling to contribute in ways that don't find a stat sheet. How many times did you see the puck get thrown on his wing in the defensive zone, and willy was no where near the puck? his effort is pathetic to put it lightly. There was a shift where he dogged it for over a minute in the defensive zone, only to turn on the jets when the puck miraculously landed on his blade. It is completely unacceptable. Willy's effort needs to improve. Freddy's effort needs to improve. But we are alright. Come out and knock em' in the teeth the next 2 games and get back on track. This loss only contributes to a theme if they want it to. They need to remember they are still the best team in the division, and same as it was the day prior, this is theirs to lose

I wish this wasn't a Nylander Andersen combo thread.

There are 2 different issues going on with each player.
A lot of zeros beside Nylander's name these days, and Andersen has been pretty good for the most part. He has not really been TOR's problem.

Andersen should have been moved last offseason. He is not even an average NHl starter anymore.

Andersen has a .901 save %. He's having a bad season again.
