I was the only one here recognizing this is a terrible hockey player even last season. He adds nothing to your lineup. Not a solid support player, not particularly good at anything, and if isn't scoring some goals he's nothing. Flames have 20 players better than Chiasson and one of the reasons they win.
And at 2.15M for another year after this, good friggen grief

Who wants these crappy players. What do you expect him to do?

He is being patient like the previous GM's should have done and the team wouldn't be without talent.

Both approaches can be wrong believe it or not.

The Oilers have been preaching "patience" and stockpiling picks for 13 years now while being gun shy to take a chance on any opportunity.

Then the one year they decide that they're open for business, turns out no one is offering the player they want right then and there so they go and overpay in a trade for their 2nd best player for a mediocre Adam Larsson.

This is the arrogance of thinking you can sit around and take your time and not be proactive on the market and when you're good and ready everyone else will be open for business right then and there with exactly what you need.

And don't forget the magical "1st year GM ... can't do anything but evaluate" bull shit.

Not freaking the **** out?

The Oilers never play well in December, plus we had a tough schedule. Things can still turn around, there’s a lot of hockey to play.
The schedule in December was absolutely not tough. Losses to Vancouver, Ottawa, Buffalo, Toronto, Minnesota....

Eight home games, four away and they’ve won exactly the same amount of each. Two.

Well said, they need somebody to put fear in them, show some damn emotion. These players play like they're comfortable collecting pay checks and going home fat and happy.

The problem is that this organization has always had a Country Club atmosphere and it reflects on them on the ice. Management is just like the players, content with collecting pay checks and being all far and happy free of any real accountability. This all starts from the top and filters down to the players. I worry that Holland is just another Country Club member but too early to know for sure. This is just as much a culture issue as it is a player personnel issue.

Listening to Connor now, he seems to have adopted that loser mentality now as well. Sad

In what way?

Did he just give up the ghost and say sucking is ok? Say we’re visually better?

Because I have an extremely difficult time believing this.

Which is 13% of the season.

It’s January and we’re still in a playoff spot. There’s a ton of ****ing hockey to be played. Things can turn around rapidly.
Three teams within two points of the Oilers and all of them have multiple games in hand.

And now the goaltending has normalized, which is the death knell of the season.

I never leave games early. I always stay to the very end since I’ve paid to be there and you never know. This goes for all sporting events.

I left with 5 minutes left tonight. That was a first for me. Brutal.

Awful crowd tonight. Dead silent, absolutely embarrassing. I had this game circled since the schedule came out. Can’t wait to cancel my season tickets.

My condolences. To think that this game was an expensive ticket on resale market. Probably to Flames fans.

I never leave early either but tbh I would never have even gone to this game. The Wheels have fallen off the Oilers, again, and a coach killing team has killed another coach. They have absolutely abandoned any game plan. This is a non coached team right now and cratering. This is flatlining and pretty scary stuff. The give up quotient on the team is pretty high now. A team that starts every game now expecting to lose.

Send Russell to the moon for the 4 mil in cap space
They chose to let Sekera go instead. Bigger caphit, coming off an injury. No chance they were going to shoot both guys into the moon. You may disagree with the guy they chose to keep, but it’s hard to put fault on Holland for not magically making two vet dmen with term remaining just disappear. That doesn’t happen.
Dont sign dud bottom 6ers and save the collective 8 mil in wasted space
Absolutely. I felt like a lonely voice posting over and over that there was no reason to sign seven very iffy players. Could have made do with three or four and had the extra $4-5 million in cap space in case a trade came available. Totally agree with you on this point ... although most on the board were delighted with signing guys like Granlund, Haas, Jurco, Archibald etc.
Trade Nurse at his peak value prior to having to hand him 7m
That option is still open. I think Nurse will take $6 and choose to stay. He’s worth that on most nights.
Try to be creative in offloading Lucic in a trade comboing picks, prospects. There is dumb GMs who still value Lucic
Really? You are going to complain about the Lucic trade? This team would have at least four or five fewer wins without Neal’s torrid start. Nobody wanted Lucic. He had negative value. Some playoff bound team might take Neal with a bit of retention to boost their PP. It’s doubtful, but nobody was taking Lucic for any reason. Only the Flames would be that stupid.

We scored 1 ****ing goal. Can't even blame the goalie for that.

LOL Cyclone Koskinen took the stinkiest fart in that second period. That second period was 100% on him. Did you expect our defence to dive in front of those wrist shots from that fart with no traffic?

And uh how are these easy teams?

Toronto is 2nd in the Atlantic
Minnesota is 1 point outside of a playoff spot
Vancouver is 2 points outside of a playoff spot
Buffalo is 5 points out of a playoff spot

Yeah these aren’t Stanley Cup contenders, but they’re not exactly easy teams to play for any squad.

All teams behind us in the standings. Might as well add the Flames to that who are now no longer behind us.

not to mention most of these losses were at home.

It would be nice to at least see some roster moves. It is so easy to demote two players and bring up Benson and Yamamoto (or Gambardella, Currie, whomever).

Yeah, this ship is clearly sinking. At least call up some of our AHLers so that we can see what we have going into next season. If Benson, Yamamoto et al outplay most of our players on our current roster, then it will make for some easier decisions for Holland in the off season in regards to re-signing or letting players go.

Yes because the season is decided in December.

I forgot about that.

I was holding out hopes but at this point the patient is flatlined and they're trying to restart the heart. Except they can't find it.

This team is dead and they know it.

Almost anybody that predicted the scoreline to this game had this result in mind. I think there were multiples that said exactly 5-1 loss.

We've seen this many times before with the Oilers when the Wheels fall off.

Hey, we know they'll have some stints where they hang around and try to tempt us back but overall this shitshow looks to be done again for another season.

Lucic and Talbot got a golf clap tonight (well deserved). I agree with you but Haas was worth the risk. He’s outplayed his contact imo. One of the only players that showed up tonight. Can you imagine we spent the money on Nyquist instead of Chiasson?

It was last year. And the year before that.

In January we embark on a five game road trip through Buffalo, Boston, Montreal, Toronto and Calgary. Think we win more than two games there?

I see 1 win (pending on if Carey Price starts) and 4 losses here
